    It took us about 15 seconds to recognize your Lyme disease symptoms. Glad you finally had the GeneX test and that your journey with this debilitating disease is mostly behind you. As old timers in canoe tripping - about 40 years guiding groups in Algonquin, a dozen BWCA trips, various 10 day excursions in Killarney and Woodland Caribou, as well as 8 Far North river expeditions, we resonate with your style of canoe travel and canoe camping and your respect for the wilderness. Your videos are always the ones we look for first out of the zillions that have been produced recently. Thank you for your artistic videography and for bringing wisdom, humility and respect to your wilderness experience.

      Thanks so much for the kind words Martha. I. hope to hit half the spots that you've been!... particularly the far north stuff... one day I'll get on the Nahanni! I really am still unsure if what I had was Lyme or not but I sure do sympathize with those that suffer with it. I think I may have had Chikungunya... in the same mosquito / virus family as Dengue and Zika. I was in Mexico just prior to getting sick and while there I had a 2 day flu of sorts, not food related. Hit me like a brick. Chikungunya acts that way... short flu initially and then lingering issues for weeks / months afterwards. I did some research and apparently Chikungnuya was an issue in Mex at the same time we were there. Thanks again.

    Jason, it's Lyme. The symptoms are really familiar, my father had the same with the Lyme. But it's easily cureable with strong antibiotics. Without treatment, it can fade away and come back very bad after many years. Without antibiotics, it will never disappear. I wish you good health and thank you for this amazing new video!

    • @JasonIrwinTumblehome
      @JasonIrwinTumblehome Před 3 lety +1

      Yes I was tested etc... negative with Canadian style test (twice) but positive with a test from a company in California. I am still not convinced it was / is lyme. It is possible though. I never took antibiotics (wouldn't prescribe them to me without pos Canadian test) I did some other therapies, strong herbals etc. I have been relatively symptom free for approx 3 yrs now. It is possible that it was Chikungunya virus... mosquito born virus that is in same family as Zika and Dengue. I had a strange 2 day strong flu for no reason in the middle of a vacay to Mexico. It was in the weeks and months after, that I began to notice the muscular symptoms (swollen hands and joints) and then other symptoms of course... seems to match up with general description of Chikungunya. Hard to say. It was a dark period for me... glad to be back to normal for now :-)

Thankfully Julia recognized it right away and a doctor had me on a three week course of doxycycline within days. It's been a few months now and I thankfully haven't had any symptoms. Worth the wait Jason, great trip, serious ASMR while we're sitting out the -34C temps and -44 wind chills here in eastern Manitoba for 2 days running and several more expected. No idea you had such health challenges, great to hear, and see, the healing process in full swing. How heavy is that canoe man?! Looks like a beast!

      Its cold here too but not THAT cold! The cedar strip is just a hair under 60lbs. Not too bad but it sure is nice to sling the carbon boat around at half the weight.

      @@JasonIrwinTumblehome Oh yeah. I bought the “heavier” version of the Keewaydin 15 in two tone carbon fusion with carbon tech package. Amazing. Have you paddles the Keewaydin 16 or 17 by any chance. Need to replace old 16’ composite Prospector and looking at the Swift but impressive feedback about the Keewaydin 16 and 17. Like soloing too in bigger boat and would need Keewaydin 17 for size of my strapping sons and not sure how happy would be in 17 with wind.

    Wow man, love that. Its like mental medicine for me. I’ve had Lyme disease and boy what a journey. Doxycycline broad spectrum antibiotic was my medicine along with a cardio version to restart my heart after the Lyme disease messed up my heart rhythm. That was 2007 and been alright ever since. Best of luck to you for the future.

      Heart arrhythmia is what my wife got from Lyme disease too. They cauterized her aorta last year and the procedure was so destructive it raised blisters on her back. She used to be an exceptionally intelligent woman until recent times. Now she thinks Biden is a legitimate POTUS!

    It's frustrating that the medical establishment is so reluctant to recognize chronic Lyme disease. What you described was exactly what so many others have gone through. The positive lab test from California makes it a slam dunk.

    I have watched your stroke carefully. I have a suggestion. Put a wrap of leather around your paddle where is tends to hid the gunnel. I got this trick from “Wintertrekker” and it works great: no noise, and no damage to paddle or gunnel. Great video
