Your videos are a life saver for me and my roommate here in Spain during covid. Thanks
Thank you so much! You’re a life saver during this lockdown.

@@isabellacartaya7912get a grip weirdo.
With this coronavirus spreading families across the world are playing card game like never before.
Alphabet Royal fr tho 💀
Looked up the original meaning of 'following suit' and it was when Ehist was insanely popular at the turn of the 19th century. Thanks man! Now I really need someone to come over and play cards with me :(
Cheers mate, just what I needed, lovely outro music as well, love from Sri Lanka, France, India and most importantly Ingerland
i needed my characters to play some obscure card game while avoiding discussing their emotions in the scene i was writing. this video was a livesaver
There's some.good passages about games of whist in one of the old Hornblower books by Forester , which brought me here.
Obscure? I think it was also in around the world in 80 days

Great explanation. Very clear and concise.
Good tutorial thank you
This is so helpful!! Thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thankyou, i used to play this with my grandad all the time, i wanted to show this to my brother but couldnt remember how to play.
great tks
Thanks
Thank you! Very nicely done. (If you went just a tiny bit slower I wouldn’t complain.)
CZcams has playback speed controls.
i would complain
I don’t quite understand trump suited cards, like i have some questions, if you grab 5 diamonds which is trump suit will it make other diamonds you have trump card too? And another question is will they remain trump card even for stage 2?
incredible card game this is so awesome!
how come at the end that other deck of cards was missing? where did it go?
played this game the whole day.. loved it.. 3 players can also play it
म एक नेपाली i didnt
the WHOLE day??? you didnt sleep???
I learned this game as "German whist". A great game!
you should have capitalized "Whist"
This looks like a fun game.
It is, although it's best if both players are of similar strength in short-term memory. Card counting in this game is both possible and a powerful tool for winning.
can i ask what are the trucksuited cards?
You confuseme at the end.why player 2 won clubs was trump. For that round?
It's really fun in person
Im confused because at 1:23 he says the card matching the trumps outranks the other card... Ok, but at 3:24 he conflicts this by showing the card matching the trumps doesn't win. Unless this is an error and the other player was supposed to win? Can someone please look at these video times and explain for me 🙏🙏
After watching this video a few times and reading some comments I understood how to play this game
NICE!!!!!
I’m learning so many card games but can’t play
;(((
so the trumps only start to pay off in the second stage when you cannot follow suit anymore or did i get anything wrong?
Trumps are _better_ in the second half of the game than in the first half. That's because you need to win a majority of tricks in the second half to score points. Trumps make it much easier to win tricks since they beat any card of a different suit.
Some descriptions of this game don't require you to follow suit in the first half since there's no reliable way to tell if your opponent can't follow suit. In that case, _never_ lead with trumps during the first half, and _always_ ensure that any trump you play will win you a better one.
I thought that if the player plays a card with the trump suite then they win over the non trump suite. im confused.
Does the suit always stay as the first card flipped up?
The first card flipped up stays the trump suit for the round.
I'm a little confused on the scoring. You keep the tricks after the first round and then subtract your amount of tricks by 6? And does it keep going?
During the first phase of the game (while there are still cards to draw) the tricks are discarded. These tricks are not worth points, they just determine the player who draws the top card. Once there are no more cards to draw, the tricks begin to count for points. The player that gets more tricks is awarded points. The points awarded equal the amount of tricks won minus 6. For example, if player 1 won 9 tricks and player 2 won 4 tricks, player 1 would score 3 points (9 - 6 = 3). Player 1 would lead 3 to zero going into the second round. A good amount to play to is 7, but you can play to any amount you want to.
Really cool game. Just played it with my girl. Easy to follow. Just needs a little more strategic advice.
Alkali July I played by myself because I am alone
Can you lead with the trump suit in the first stage or do you lead off with another suit?
You can lead with trumps in the first stage, but you'd rarely want to since having more trump cards makes winning in the second stage easier.
who deals the following round?
Hi I have a question. When the card flipped is undesirable, and the player who gets to play first plays, let’s say a diamond but player 2 doesn’t have any diamonds. Player one wants to lose but so does player 2. Does 2 have to play a trump card to win? Even if they do not want to win? Thanks for your help!
Your question gets answered at 3:20.
@@reillywalker195 thank you! Missed it!
Great video thanks!! Quick question - if a player has neither a trump card or the suite card - do they place any card? Or....
Yes, they would place any card.
Can the trump cards be used during first stage? Or the trump card will be effective in the second stage of the game only?
You can use trump cards in the first phase, but doing so is usually a bad idea unless a better trump card has been turned up and you want to win it. You want as many trump cards as possible (ideally, seven or more) going into the second phase.
Got to the end of the game. Player 2 had 6 tricks. Player 1 had 6 tricks the last card was an Ace from both sides. Who wins?? Pls help
"An intelligent assumption is always better than a blind guess" , from the book : Teach yourself card games by David Parlett
You really favored Player 2 there, but in the end (SPOILER) the dominance of Player 1 could not be denied.
How does the other person know I am not cheating if I can't follow suit?
You can cheat like that in the first half of the game, hence why some descriptions of this game say you're not required to follow suit in the first half. In the second half, however, you have to reveal all of your remaining cards in hand, so there's no possible way to cheat. In fact, it's possible for your opponent to eventually know exactly which cards you must be holding.
Its kinda like durak but two players
And the goal isn't to go out but to score points by winning tricks.
The Keeping Scores is abit confusing. Say theres 6 tricks on p1 and 7 tricks on p2, how do you get the score from there or even how you get 15?
This is the same question I also want to ask
6 is the minimum if you will. So any amount of tricks over 6 will score you points. 7 tricks would give you 1 point, as you have one more than 6. 8 tricks would be 2 points, 9 tricks 3 points, etc.
Once the round is over, you start over from the beginning phase and play all the way through again. Once a player reaches the determined amount of points, they win.
Your videos are soooooo amazing love the way you explain. Also in this game is the trump card in the start of the game same for the rest of the game or it changes every time ???
The trump suit is the suit of the card turned up at the start of the hand after the deal. It remains the same until all cards have been played and the hand is over.
This seems like the game War just with a few extra steps.
ong
How do i "better" the cards that i was dealt
Try to win cards from the deck that are better than yours (higher in rank, or trump, or both) and not win cards that are worse or roughly the same.
So if you can't follow suit, you loose the trick?
If you can't follow suit, you can still win the trick by playing a trump suited card.
I’m so lost. At 3:33 shouldn’t the 8 best the 3 since 8 is higher than 3? Why the hell would player 2 win that trick
At the 3:15 mark player 2 plays a 3 and player 1 plays an 8. Since 8 is higher than 3, why did player 2 win the trick?
Player 1 couldn't follow suit. The 8 would've needed to have been the 8 of spades or of the trump suit to win the trick.
Thats what I cant figure out
What if I don't have the same suit that my partner placed? Do I put any number and suit from my choice? Like if player two puts a 9 of hearts and I don't have any hearts what do I do.? And another question, if neither the diamonds or the hearts are the Trump suited card. So let's say that I place a 9 heart and player 2 places 9 diamond who wins it?
Plz answer. And whoever did answer me, I am very thankful
If you cannot play a card in the same suit, any card can be played. If the cards played are different suits but neither are trump suit, the first card played wins.
Ok thank you ❤
It is very similar to a game which is called "1000" in Poland.
Tysm!! This saved my brother in prison ^_^
😸😸
I miss playing cards most of all
So everytime I want to play Whist some people want spades
So I have good Scrabble people
Tolstoy brought me here.
Do you always have to follow suit, or can you play a trump card instead?
In the second phase, you must always follow the suit led if able. You may lead with trumps without them having been "broken"-that is, played to a previous trick-unlike in some other games.
@@reillywalker195 what
I don't get it
Laverna Phifer lol watch again
You said play the same suit when possible. If the suit being played was hearts (Trump card is clubs let's say). If I don't have any hearts so I play a diamond do I automatically lose even if I have the highest card?
Yes, in your example the heart led will beat the diamond, even if the diamond is higher.
@@GatherTogetherGames ok thank you.
@@GatherTogetherGames If in the second stage the suit does not match with the other player, then who is won
3:04 mark why is the card not desirable ?
Because it is not ♦️
It's of a low rank and not of the trump suit, so not worth trying to win.
This video is sponsored by Quarantine 2020.
What if you can't follow suit in endgame, do you lose the trick?
Unless you can play a trump card, yes.
I just told my best friend do u remember how to play 2 handed Whi😅st
I was never as good as Hornblower at Whist. . . always losing the rubber near the end.
not understood
Im here cuz of the quarantine
This version is called German Whist.
This video gave me a headache
Majid Alawadhi lol
Yeah right
Same
Why
Because you havnt mastered the art of concentration.
Who or what decides if the flipped up card is desireable or not? Shouldn't they all be desireable? Shouldn't you want to win every trick?
3:30.....8 club wins against 3 spade isn't it?
The three of spades wins the trick because it is the higher card in the suit that was led. If the eight had been a spade, then the eight would have won, or if it had been any card in the trump suit (diamonds this hand), then it would have won; but because it is not a trump card or a higher spade, the leading card automatically wins.
even leading card have lower number on same suit card which both are not trump and spade....leading card still wins the trick?
@@DragonX2448 No, if both cards are the same suit, then the higher number wins. If the cards are different suits, then the led card wins, unless the other card is trump.
@@lapingveno I just read this line of questions and this really helped!

I could not understand the objective of this game. Too hard.

Im here because I was a episode of maverick and he mentioned this game lmao not because of this dag blame Corina virus
Says the objective of the first round was to improve your hand, doesn’t explain in what way and improve to what! Took a while to work out.
It's hinted at in the video that the most desirable cards are trump cards and other high ranking cards, but I imagine the maker of the video didn't want to give that away entirely since part of the fun of any card game is learning how to play it well yourself.
margaret yates that’s what I thought
Better you hand lets see, two options here by accumulating high value cards or accumulating low value cards.Do you really need someone to answer that for you.
Ig Os yes
Just try to be nice in these times, ok? Just trying to have fun.@@igos2101

You need to go slower in explaining Trump values, cannot get my head around strategy of game, if there is any strategy to it. Very aggravating, no fun, only frustration on who collects Trump cards when you win. I played Saturday, did not collect any cards!
