    so the trumps only start to pay off in the second stage when you cannot follow suit anymore or did i get anything wrong?

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 Před 2 lety

      Trumps are _better_ in the second half of the game than in the first half. That's because you need to win a majority of tricks in the second half to score points. Trumps make it much easier to win tricks since they beat any card of a different suit.
      Some descriptions of this game don't require you to follow suit in the first half since there's no reliable way to tell if your opponent can't follow suit. In that case, _never_ lead with trumps during the first half, and _always_ ensure that any trump you play will win you a better one.

    I'm a little confused on the scoring. You keep the tricks after the first round and then subtract your amount of tricks by 6? And does it keep going?

    • @GatherTogetherGames
      @GatherTogetherGames  Před 6 lety +8

      During the first phase of the game (while there are still cards to draw) the tricks are discarded. These tricks are not worth points, they just determine the player who draws the top card. Once there are no more cards to draw, the tricks begin to count for points. The player that gets more tricks is awarded points. The points awarded equal the amount of tricks won minus 6. For example, if player 1 won 9 tricks and player 2 won 4 tricks, player 1 would score 3 points (9 - 6 = 3). Player 1 would lead 3 to zero going into the second round. A good amount to play to is 7, but you can play to any amount you want to.

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 Před 3 lety

      You can use trump cards in the first phase, but doing so is usually a bad idea unless a better trump card has been turned up and you want to win it. You want as many trump cards as possible (ideally, seven or more) going into the second phase.

    • @reillywalker195
      @reillywalker195 Před 5 lety +1

      You can cheat like that in the first half of the game, hence why some descriptions of this game say you're not required to follow suit in the first half. In the second half, however, you have to reveal all of your remaining cards in hand, so there's no possible way to cheat. In fact, it's possible for your opponent to eventually know exactly which cards you must be holding.

    • @cpgamer117
      @cpgamer117 Před 4 lety +2

      6 is the minimum if you will. So any amount of tricks over 6 will score you points. 7 tricks would give you 1 point, as you have one more than 6. 8 tricks would be 2 points, 9 tricks 3 points, etc.
      Once the round is over, you start over from the beginning phase and play all the way through again. Once a player reaches the determined amount of points, they win.
