Why Don't We Still Have Flying Cars From Blade Runner Movie

A world with flying cars has been a popular fantasy for more than a century. And this is a possibility thanks to today's superior technology. So what's stopping us now?
Syd Mead, an American industrial designer, and neo-futurist concept artist, created the Spinners featured in the 1982 original Blade Runner film.
Similar to today's vertical takeoff and landing VTOL aircraft, a Spinner can be operated as a ground-based vehicle; it can take off vertically, hover, and cruise using jet propulsion. So it has everything a person could ask for.
Some good people actually worked on similar designs. These vehicles mostly look like a combination of planes and cars. They have little wings, and they take off just like airplanes. That's why they need a runway.
So that is the first problem with a flying car. Considering the traffic, can you imagine the havoc that random cars taking off from a runway in your neighborhood would cause?
That's why some companies focused on this issue first. They are trying to design a flying car that wouldn't need a runway to take off.
The vertical takeoff feature is used by the Harrier 'Jump Jet' used by many air forces around the world. But in civilian practice, we can only find helicopters. Besides, they are more expensive to develop and require a high degree of pilot training to be operated.
Although autonomous cars are not considered in the movies, we have such a chance. However using a flying car in autopilot mode can be really dangerous. Autopilot systems do not have the ability to make decisions as humans do. It is very difficult for autonomous systems to react to unexpected situations. Too many unanticipated events may occur while the vehicle is in the air.
Even if we can solve the autopilot problems, there is another flaw with the design. Due to the fact that flying vehicles will take off and land in cities, hundreds of vehicles would need to operate in silence in order to prevent the city from becoming uninhabitable.
So this is why we still don't have flying cars.
