- Lynchburg, Virginia is a beautiful city located just east of the Blue Ridge Mountain and is also the home of WWII hero Desmond T. Doss. Doss, who inspired the film, Hacksaw Ridge, was drafted by the military in 1942. However, his beliefs forbade him from killing another human or carrying a weapon. In fact, during the war his only weapons were his Bible and his faith in God. To honor his beliefs while still serving in the military, Doss became a medic.

Thank you VPM, what a great story!
Thank you, I really enjoyed this video. Great Job.
He wasn't drafted. He enlisted voluntarily
Truly GOD was ith him those days and all his life! Very nice story of an exceptional Human being following what he believed in...Amen
Absolutely God was with him. I am nowhere near the man Doss was, but God was with me to. This was in AIT. That is like boot camp but you are learning your M.O.S. One day I wake up with a 104 fever and still ran for P.T. I don't know how I did it but I did. Going to sick call wasn't an option until after P.T. I went to school and half way thru, my drill sergeant comes by and I tell him I'm sick and need to get checked out. He asked if I could finish class and I did. I went to the hospital at the end of the day and rested for the next 2 days. A couple of weeks go by and the drill sergeants are pissed at the whole company. This wasn't just your mourning P.T. this was a smoking session. They were punishing us. 5 minutes in my drill sergeant comes over to me and tells me to get up. He said when I got sick I missed the P.T. test and had to make it up the next day. While the whole company is getting smoked half to death, I was told to go to my room and relax lmfao. Everything happens for a reason. I got sick and was spared a mourning of torture because of it. I did really good on the P.T. test too and my drill sergeant made a public acknowledgement of it too which was cool. God spared me from a punishment I didn't deserve.
Amen. God Bless America.
That man in the beginning is my teacher Mr doss
