Players may choose one of a number of riders, each with their own statistics and boarding style. A course is selected, and the player is given the option of racing down the course or participating in a competition to do tricks.
Each course is filled with ramps, rails, jumps, and other assorted objects. Performing tricks fills up the player's boost meter, which can then be used for additional acceleration, making tricks important even in a race. While some tricks do have origins in snowboarding, many of the more advanced tricks are not realistic to actual physics. This matters little in games of this style, as the larger and more extreme tricks count for the most points and are the most spectacular to execute. Players also have the option of practicing or exploring courses in "freeride" mode.
There are 8 characters but only 4 of which are available at the start (the others have to be unlocked through winning events). They are Mac, Elise, Moby, Kaori, Zoe, JP, Jurgen and Hiro. - Hry

It sounded sexual to me. Like a slowed down moan. Then the game title looked and sounded like sex.
omfg same this is literally the only reason i came to watch this video, that sound has been ingrained in my mind for the last like 9 years.

"I'm one step ahead'a the game". Lol. Started playing this when I was 27 (a bit late for games but that's when it came out) and loved it. Ordered one for the PS3 but didn't realise at the time that it wasn't the same kinda version :( Just told my housemate that's a lot younger than me that I'd love a copy of the original, so we're going to see if we can get it - and hopefully it'll play on PS5 when it comes out next year (?). It'll be so funny playing it 20 years later for me. Is 47 too old? Haha. Can't wait! 🤩

I remember back in 2000/2001 when this game was on display at the demo kiosk in the electronics store at the supermarket where my parents used to and still do their weekly grocery shopping. I used to come with them and went over to play this game while they were shopping. I remember pulling off the craziest tricks with very long strings of combos and I also thought the graphics were super realistic. I was and still is a Nintendo kid and couldn't afford more then one console, so I never bought this one, but I did play SSX on tour when it was new and also SSX 3 and SSX 2012 in my adult years, I also tried Tricky once quite recently. That means that I'm most familiar with On tour, and I just got my first PS2 this week with this game. And I tried pulling off backflips from every single jump just like in SSX on tour, and I kept falling every single time. Also, it didn't look as good as I remember it. That shows that the series has evolved more than I thought even though the basics are still similar, snowboarding down a hill while pulling off tricks, but at the same time holding the player's hand more.
i used to play this game, i would always go to ramps and just do tricks rather than racing and winning

***** The PSP version of On Tour is basically SSX3 on the psp.
I will say that SSX On Tour is the smoothiest of all of the games on the PS2, but i've been playing SSX Tricky ever since I bought it again. xD

i was a kaori player :P she was the best at tricks, which i liked, so i could keep a full booster bar the entire race.
I interviewed Zoe’s voice actress (also a visual artist on the game). Zoe was visually based on herself, aswell as her outfits.

cocacoladog10 Whenever snow is starting to fall, even if it's in october or november, I HAVE to play the game. It takes me back to a time when I was genuinely excited with new technology and games. I was close to christmas when I rented a PS2 for the first time, and going back, listening to that awesome soundtrack and play that game is now a tradition every winter for me. This game made me want to snowboard for real. I even bring a PS2 sometimes when I snow at a resort and play the game during the night.

The sound loop that plays on the loading screen used to freak me out as a kid, I love the style of the game now though, it has a lot of personality!

My first PS2 game (plus Tekken)! My mom and dad bought this on my birthday for me and my siblings. I was looking at this thinking it was going to be a boring generic snowboarding game. Giving it a chance, I later became hopelessly addicted to it! Oh somebody please take me back in time!

This was the first game I ever played on PS2 it came in a demo when I bought it. I played that demo so many times omg ahah always wanted to play the full game but never found it so I bought ssx3 instead which was also great

We used to stay up all night playing this, My favourite factor was the music breakbeats. the more tricks / xp / points you gained the sicker the beats were. It kept us entertained for hours. I dont know if the later versions had this feature.
Never understood that that was a feature. Is that really so, that if you make more points and meter, the music changes?

bought this game a few days before ps2 was launched in america. playing this game the day of the ps2 launch was fucking ecstasy. the jump from 32/64 bit was INSANE. the feels. i loved my ps2 lol. wonder if anyone remembers the manufacturing problems. could have sold mine for 2 grand on ebay for some months after the launch because nobody could buy them unless they had it pre-ordered.

This game felt like experiencing the future. Incredible vision from the creators. Then 9/11 happened and the whole world had to follow that messed up timeline. This was the cutting edge. Now all mainstream games feel like they’re cut from the same cloth.
It's not just about winning first place. It's about looking stylish while being in first place. So many missed jumps and opportunities for tricks. Here comes a big jump, fuck it let's ride through without even jumping cause I'm in first place. At least jump, man!

I have this game. And the disc is blue. And my ps2 can't read blue disc's....So that means i can't play this game anymore...How do i fix this?

nah dude. tricky was a letdown. it was more like an expansion pack to the original. SSX was a launch title, and it was the best game on the PS2 for years. you'd agree if you played it on launch like myself :P
Don't get me wrong, tricky was good. I definitely only played tricky after it came out of course. but there's nothing like that experience of SSX on launch day. it blows tricky out of the water.
