Diana is a once in a century voice for a woman. Her background is even more heart-wrenching, you can't help but cheer for her.
Folks may not realize how bold Diana was to pick this song. This folk song is well known to the listeners and up to this point there was an opera singer a generation before her who had the gold standard performance of this piece.
It's the equivalent of picking a Celine dion or Mariah Carey iconic song to do in a competition and setting the new standard.

Clarification about the song: This is a Russian wedding song (from the bride's side), its lyrics cannot be taken literally, as these are ritual, formal phrases established over many centuries of their use. The Russian wedding ceremony for the bride’s side was always accompanied by plaintive and sad songs - after all, the girl was leaving her family forever for someone else’s family, that is, symbolically “dying” for her relatives. Hence the very genre of wedding songs of the bride and her bridesmaids was called “weepings or laments,” and the symbolism of “dying” and farewell was expressed by the image of a river, which among all Indo-European peoples was considered the border between the world of the living and the dead. To answer your questions.
Firstly about the song, it's purpose is ritualistic, people sang it since ancient times on weddings to exorcise ill omens and to signify the passing of the bride in to a new family.
The story that is depicted on the song goes like this: The girl is an orphan that is forced in to a marriage in an unknown family and as the guests fill her house she feels empty inside so she goes to the river which is considered the gate between the living world and the underworld.
There she comes in contact with the spirit of the river or the spirit of her dead mother depends on the interpretation of the song which asks her why is she not smiling.
Then she proceeds to tell her story and how she has no one to bless her for her marriage, after that she gets in to the boat and sails away.
This might have different meanings according to interpretation or the different versions of the song, it might be that she escaped her forced marriage with the help f the river or it might be implying her ending her own life.
Diana is always an extremely emotional artist but this song has some extra weight if you think that Diana herself is an orphan, she sang this extremely difficult song to perfection at that young of an age, she is just incomparable.
Secondly, you called the fast flips from chest to head voice technique a yodel which is correct, Diana is a master yodeler since a very young age, she incorporates this technique quite often in a lot of her songs.
Thirdly, yes that lady is Diana's adoptive mother her name is Irina Ponik and she is the one that save Diana from the hard life she had and nurtured her in to the incredible human and artist that she is today, there are a couple of Documentaries that you can check out if you want to see more from her.
You can see Diana's whole family if you check out the release of her most recent song that is called "From what does the Motherland begin" it is on her main channel and you can see there Diana's Mother, grandmother, her older sister and her nephew (her sister's son).
Lastly about this competition, this is not "The voice", it is called "You are super" (Ты супер!) and it is a truly great project, it is a vocal contest for disadvantaged children who have spent some significant part of their childhood without parental care.
It provides a platform for orphan and otherwise disadvantaged children to show their talents and gain entrance to prestigious music schools.
Diana was abused and abandoned injured by her biological mother so she ended up in an orphanage that is why she was eligible for the project, she won it by a huge margin at the age of 14.
The very next year the producers organized a super show of the same contest by gathering all the winners and best finalists of the project and they let them compete for the title of the all time best, Diana won again at the age of 15, that is where she sang "Wicked game".
So Diana won this show twice in a row with perfect score both times at the ages of 14 and 15.
Every song she performed on this competition is a masterpiece and at the same time a masterclass in vocals, i highly suggest that you check out all of them.

The song "Rechenka" (affectionate from the word "river") is a Russian folk ritual wedding song. There is a version that this song appeared before Christianity, and since early Christianity and paganism were closely intertwined, there are many versions of this song. It tells how an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. The song is about how my mother, father and brothers were killed by enemies, there is no one to take care of her. The river in Ancient Russia was considered the border between the world of the living and the dead. You hear an ominous whisper, it's the spirit of her late mother responding to the girl's crying.
There are about 30 variants of this song, but the content of each of the variants is based on the sad appeals of the orphan bride to her deceased parents, asking them for "blessings" and help for marriage, for family, to strangers.
There are other versions of this song, where the heroine appeals to her brothers and even to her parents with a call to return to earth in the form of a bird to her native home.
At the end of the song, the girl sails away to a strange tribe, to a strange family.
The roots of the song go back to ancient Russia, it is a very, very ancient folk folklore.

Since a much shortened version was made for the modern stage, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely, to a man older than her and not of her own free will). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

Greetings from Scotland! Yes, the lady with glasses and short black hair with hands clasped is Diana's new mama - Irina Ponik! Wherever Diana performed, Irina was there documenting everything since she was singing at home at 5yo! Even at 14yo Diana had the ability to convey all the emotions in any song. Diana once said in a TV interview "In principle, if you don't sing with your soul, you probably don't sing".
This was the great Russian project "You're Super!" for children left without parental care to showcase their vocal abilities. Diana definitely showcased hers to the maximum! Here is the list of her performances here.

This performance is the third of four very different performances - all stunning - that Diana gave in the 2018 season.
"Wicked Game" is the second of three amazing performances - likewise all different - that she gave in the 2019 "super" season involving winners of previous seasons.
Diana at 14 was a fantastic artist in her own right.

People have described her character here as a “spooky forest witch” and I would say she can wield that vibe. I like the growl line she does, and feel like it’s not something you’ll hear from most singers. Of course she also lets her voice ring out in some powerfully belted notes. Such a striking performance from the most unique of voices.

Diana actually had a REALLY ROUGH start in life. Hers is one of the legendary success stories, one that most unfortunately is NOT a fairy tale.
I really hope that Diana's birth parents are completely out of her life forever. After throwing her away like they did, they do not deserve anything good to come from her. She went through hell at FAR too young an age, all caused directly by them. She could not defend herself, she had broken bones and she could not even talk yet. They screwed her up really bad.
Because of what they did to her, she had to go it alone for a little bit (until this sweet lady adopted her).

In 2018 Diana first sang this song in the singing competition 'You are super' (she was 14 years old).
This international TV competition is unique in the world and was specially developed for adopted and orphaned children. It is designed not only to give positive emotions to children who do not have a prosperous childhood, but also to hope for changes in their destiny.
Diana entered the competition 'You are Super!' in 2018 and 2019 and won twice. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote and the final took place in the Kremlin Palace and her videos were uploaded to CZcams and soon she had millions of fans.
The project producers help the finalists start studying and encourage their creativity. Diana won a scholarship to the College of Music. Igor Krutoy, as a juror, gave her a small apartment in Moscow. So, she could start her vocal training with the best teachers such as Professor Olga Donskoy (She died of Covid-19 in Oct. 2020)…
