Peterbilt employee at the plant in Denton, TX here. These trucks look a lot like the Hyliion trucks that we’ve built. They were powered by a Cummins X15 with CNG as well as having electric drive axles as you guys already saw. They were experimenting with this combination but the technicians we had at the plant were sent an email on a Thursday saying they were having an extended weekend and never came back. Company went under and laid everyone off. I’m willing to bet these trucks were part of that fleet. If you can provide the last 8 of the VIN I can check our systems if you have any interests.
the vin number is in the video lol
DOT number is Hyliion.
Deboss garage and Edison motors need those axles
If it was me.. Before getting too carried away with stripping trucks down.. I'd be sorting out some racking and big plastic totes to put parts in, so you can probably sort everything into an inventory.
Congrats, fellas! You took an almost rolling chassis, and created a mid-80’s kit truck
Looks like a bunch of Monkeys found a Spaceship.
WTF are they thinking?😮
unfortunately due to all the emissions, fitzgerald doesnt put gliders together anymore.
Those would be perfect new glider kit
Glider kits have been outlawed for years, our government wants the gliders off the road soon. The G in the vin identify them
Those trucks look to be in very decent shape and clean looking. Have a good evening, Bruce👍
What is the old saying....
Looks can be deceiving..
Wish him the best though..😊😊
The FlowBelow drive axle fairing kit is for trucks that pull aero van or reefer trailers. Combo'ed with chasis fairings on the tractor, wheel covers, and trailer skirts they let you squeeze a couple more % points out of your fuel economy. Easy for bad drivers to tear them up though, especially the ones attached to the mudflap hanger.
If I remember correctly Edison Motors contacted Maritor about E-Ales, but they refused to sell to Edison. The Edison E-Axle is beefier and more powerful than the Maritor axle is. But you might want to reach out because I can see some other applications where the smaller axles would still work. The only problem is Edison doesn’t have a lot of capital right now as they are still growing. It just surprises me on the waste that big companies have, since they were sold as parts and with only 20k on them.
Maybe they should make the trailers hybrids with storage batteries mounted down low(to help lower center of gravity)with electric powered axles. When trailer is loaded axles could provide propulsion. When empty, axles would recharge batteries
Edison Motors has a rare use that is suited to electric power. They haul trees downhill off a mountain then drive back up empty. Regenerative braking charges the batteries on the way down, supplying enough power to go back up unloaded. Electric trucks might be useful in a warehouse yard truck or a terminal to terminal situation. Electric forklifts work well if there is enough downtime to charge them or there are batteries to swap. Forklifts are used mainly on level surfaces. If they are used to carry things up ramps, the batteries run out of power quicker.
We have electric forklifts and propane forks on my job. Personally I think if your not charging with wind or solar it's all fake. I've been driving forklifts for over 30 years and I'll take combustion over electric any day!!
these are hybrid, so they have fuel...
@@davidvann9387buddy please do some research before posting your opinions. Even if you are burning fuel to produce electricity electric vehicles will still be more efficient and eco friendly. For example a model 3 Tesla will be fully charged with 15 litres of fuel and will give you around 200-250 miles.
@Lvlupraj-8483 buddy I have done some research and I stand by my opinion.
Bottom line, Emotor is perfect for heavy trucking even with an ICE onboard generator like a diesel electric train. Max torque and regen.
Send the electric axles to Edison Motors in Canada. They are building hybrid conversions on heavy rigs using an onboard Cummins diesel generator and a battery pack.
I would love to see them use the whole truck.
those guys just exposed a massive gov't tax dollar theft scandal
Good point true dat or have them send you some cabs and genoraters
@@bennyboogenheimer4553, why use OTR chassis, it defeats the purpose of hybrid. There is no benefit to hybrid on OTR.
@@pcspecialistpdx
Have you met a Toyota Hybrid?
They run on battery power, untill it needs more, then the 4 cylinder kicks on to charge the batteries for 3X the mileage of an equivalent gas car.
And it has the Re-Gen brakes and downhill rechargeablities..
So a truck who's smaller diesel engine only runs 8 to 12 hours out of 24 but still deliver 500 BHP all 24 hours would be Great, right?
A Highway Topsy.
Or a
Panther, or Impala, or
Great White Shark.
Something fast and quiet.
Edison motors was the first thing I thought of when I started watching this video 🙌🏼👍🏻👊🏼🔧🔧🔧🔧
Edison motors was not the first.
@@tripplefives1402 I am thinking you miss read what I wrote 😂😂😂
Edison built there own hybrid truck maybe you can be a retro fit installer with all those extra axles 😂
LOL I was literally thinking you should contact Edison motors when you said at minute 20. Great work guys!!
Those whiners
Would love to see the next big rig build off at mats to have a start with something like this… all the builders having the same shell to start off with then we could truly see who the best of the best is ???? Mats 2025 !!!!
Get ya 4 of these and give to the next years builders and all contestants for the challenge get to keep their creations # how-bout-it!!!
engines & battery packs are gone ... what was so wrong with them at 20K miles ?
Tim needs some aluminum 5ths for show trucks
Saw a Amazon truck on lp gas hauled packages aluminum 5th pulling 20 lbs ? Driver said not a box on that truck that couldn't be carried on your shoulder.
HAY QUE PROBARLOS BRUCE TU SIEMPRE RECOMIENDAS EQUIPOS BUENOS Y CON RESPALDO SALUDOS
Never knew there was such a thing of electric axles learn something new everyday. That's what I get for driving old stuff
Diesel trucks should only be allowed to operate on the outskirts of town and then electric trucks take loads the rest of the way in. It would create more jobs and lower noise pollution in the city
Could use one of these 579 as a rebuild project, put a engine and manual gearbox and change the drive axle
Certainly not my field, but I was thinking the same thing!
Never seen those before, They would make great gliders using the center sections & hubs off of the bent axel housings you have.
Nothing funnier than y’all looking in that Mickey Mouse tool sack while working on heavy trucks in a monster shop
Hey , don't call that Mickey Mouse,, that is Lowes best Kobalt.. That was a $149 tool set in a bag..🤣
Yep,that was hilarious,I liked the part with an ietie bietie adjustable wrench .🔧.😆
Why can't you sell the whole truck and let people put their own engine and transmissions in them. Bet Tim Gentry would like some
the 5th wheels look nice on those
Your new workshop is starting to look like a bruces secondhand wrecking yard
Flow below is company that made filer piece between axles for aerodynamics. The axles look to be electric driven , don't look like the ones Edison uses.
But parts is what folks look for, doors ,mirrors not whole cab.
Start for making a truck.
Bruce weight is why 315 on steer .
Unless you need a whole cab, then you're going to be looking for a whole cab. Not doors and mirrors. Someone I know had to replace the cab on a brand new Pete not long after they bought it. Driver rolled it in a tight turn.
The three big wires are probably directly connected to the windings in the motor.
They will probably need some type of inverter to convert battery DC voltage into three phase AC for the motor.
Super clean shop👍👍
Should make an electic pulling tuck out of one of those truck
Wish I had the money for a complete rig. That would be a fun project.
Now I understand why you bought those Cummins and Detroit diesel engines. They will be fitted with these hybrid ones to make them diesel-powered trucks. That's not a bad thinking. Good luck.
Chase Barber at Edison Motors might be interesting in those electric drive axles.
yep i was thinking the same thing
Pretty cool!
Whats the backstory on the trucks?
Looks like somebodys eco efficient fleet dream that didnt come true?
Hyliion just ended their hybrid power train business a few months ago, so they were likely theirs.
So those were test trucks
@@djopaqueno they were production trucks that hyliion originally planned on delivering to customers.
Solar panels on top and a few Honda generators from Lowe’s……. Good to go trucking ! 😂🎉
Those trucks are good don't trash then keep them the way thay are
If you put the directly motor with a differential then when the axle hits a pothole or any bump the shock will affect the load and bearings of the motor as well. The motors on the wheels avoiding suspension and shock damper are not too friendly though. It is the locomotive traction motor system.
Damn those were nice trucks 😂
We just not gonna talk about the sketch reference in the intro😭
keep the clips coming
I'm only 10 minutes in but you should put an engine and rear ends and sell them or have a raffle giveaway that's brand new man and I know parting them out you might make more money this is a cool ass video man I've never seen anything like this but I've heard about it Bruce U"R Kill"in It Bigg Buddy 💚😎👊🏻
Hey Bruce, good luck selling your new truck parts. I do hope you sell them fast.
Edison motors in Canada might be interested in all of this stuff.
Old Timmy gentry needs to buy all those seats, !! I think every truck he got could use a seat upgrade..
I'd definitely say those are compatible to make into a glider if you know what I mean.
Keep smiling.
I saw the thumbnail of these trucks So I was checking your channel out waiting to hear where these trucks came from PERIOD I remember about a year ago that Walmart Order 20 some of these the trucks and I was wondering if these are the trucks because they know they were Peter built and I was wondering if these trucks came from those trucks that Walmart Had?😊
Hyliion owned them out of texas
Great video 👍 Maybe invest in some sheets of osb board and put on the floor and drop and slide axle etc out😅
Great video keep it up
Give @EdisonMotors a ring - they're building diesel electric trucks and may find these units interesting.
Electric pull truck Bruce.non stop pulling
how about you take some of them electric drive axle and put them on a trailer than if need be you have two truly all wheel drives truck and trailer combination?
How about putting one of the used motors, trans snd axels from what they hauled over snd convert one back into a show truck?
Awesome video
Bruce you should try and build one of those hybrid trucks
A butt load of good sellable parts!
Take a wrecked truck from Fitzgerald and do a engine ,tranny and rear axles swap out
Put one of those axle under a Ford 550. And fill the bed with batteries... :D :D
10 times better than European trucks reliable and super strong
No Bruce I have never seen semi trucks like that before 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Should check out Edison Motors - Topsy is fully hybrid and homebrewed in Canada
Wonder if Edison motors would have any interest in the electric axels
That's the same thing I was thinking
Chase would probably like it
That’s what I was thinking
Hey Bruce … I am confused. What business are you in? You are a busy guy but you have your fingers in many pies 😊
He is the Pie man, the American pie... :D
Conman
Call Edison Motors in Canada. He might would want those.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
Service of what? Lmao
@@crazytrucker2376 You know... Service. Rotating tires, checking fluids, oil change.
😂
@@crazytrucker2376 Oil changes, greasing the chassis, that sorta thing.
I need a driver's door panel if they're black and grey. Kinda looked like the light tan.
They were trying to be efficient as possible but still use duals. Thats how you can tell the designers/engineers dont know their stuff
Honestly, those hybrid trucks sound very interesting, mainly for countries like mine where fuel is super expensive. But they don't make much sense if they are much more expensive than normal trucks.😅
It looks like these were Hyliion ERX Hypertrucks. They had 7 litre CNG generators and batteries, very similar concept to what Edison Motors is doing.
Seems they decided they weren't economically viable as the cost of components soared and the project was cancelled. Very difficult for a startup company to do this. It will take one of the big companies to develop it.
With both axles being electric motors by Meritor, it definitely looks like an old Hyliion application. I hate seeing this.
You mean 12 litre not 7 litre. The hyliion erx were equipped with a cummins 12 litre cng engine to be used as a generator to keep the batteries charged while driving.
@tiredoldmechanic1791 the big companies might have bought them out. Or killed them
@@macbook802 It takes a lot of money to start a new venture. Hyliion started in 2015 and was plagued by lack of money. They moved from Pennsylvania to Texas where they got money from the city of Cedar Park when they promised to employ 200 people. The electric heavy truck market hasn't worked out. Even Elon Musk hasn't produced more than a couple of prototypes. These trucks were probably sold at auction to satisfy creditors.
You guys got them on the cheap
You should build an electric mud truck with a set of them
If you plan on selling the air bags you need to chain the axles up before lifting.
Watching the 🪰 having good time lol
I got a doner truck with 6NZ 13 spd and 3.58 rear ends that can use a new body currently in a 387
Yeah you should hit up Edison Motors
Miss the days of mudtrucks 😢
At first i thought he started a massive trucking business
Hi Bruce
Edison Motors in Canada!!!
Love the videos
I wonder if these trucks had big CNG tanks behind the sleeper
These would be perfect for Edison Motors to install Topsy tech in them.
is it just the two of you that works there when ever i see any one else they just seam to be standing around watching
Reach out to Dave Sparks, right up his alley!
Edison motors in Canada will want the parts
looks like bruce just solved the housing crises all by him self
Lol, set all the cabs out in the yard and then rent them out to all of the employees
Tennessee phrase thats even better... Look At It... Aint It Though??
Should make one running one
Haven't you got any come along as this would've helped holleding the diff up in the shases
Can’tcall edison motors, or Deboss garage, they may be interested in those axles or frames??
i wander if you can put them frames under a diesel truck to save a totaled out truck
The only use for electric trucks that makes sense to be dismantled for real trucks
If you pull all the cng parts and electric rear ends out I am pretty sure you could sell it as a glider chassis
I’m curious as to why they were retired after only 20k and the engines and batteries removed. Seems to me they’d be more valuable dropping a cat or Detroit in them getting rid of all the crap electric drive axles and then selling the trucks as a complete unit seeing that they are pretty much brand new and have so many options in them.
They could have been bought out by the big 3
@@macbook802 Just seems like an awful waste of what could have been a group of perfectly good trucks. They could have gotten with drivers looking to getting into the owner operator scene but can’t afford to purchase a newer truck and set them up for one of these re-engined for less than they could get into a new one or allowed them to convert the trucks over to diesel themselves.
Ayup. You need those gigantic sleepers to live in because you'll spend a lot of time waiting to charge up. The good news is you'll have plenty of time for a second WFH job.
Hi Bruce it would be good content. If you put a 730or770motor and gearbox in that Peterbuilt truck
I’m guessing Paccar test trucks. Test trucks generally have engines and transmissions pulled and the chassis can never be registered again. Paccar generally releases pre production trucks to fleet customers for testing purposes after a very short period they get pulled in stripped and chassis’s are supposed to be cut in a manner specified in order for them to never be registered.
I wonder if one of those steer axles would fit my 94 379.
Please try to contact Edison Motors in Canada they might be interested in those i guess!
I would like to have seen these trucks in service. Compare fuel milage ect
Looks crazy without fuel tanks.
Almost make you think they weren't hybrid trucks but were instead fully electric. lol
Hey Bruce. How hard would it be to convert back to normal diesel powered with the engines and axles you got laying around? Will, from Australia
