- Thanksgiving is an important holiday in America and Canada.
Families gather together and have a large meal consisting of turkey, cranberry sauce, potatoes, sweet potato casserole, stuffing, vegetables, and pumpkin pie.
But where did it all begin?
The tradition goes back to 1621 when Pilgrims who settled at Plymouth, Massachusetts were celebrating their first successful corn harvest.

In Germany there's something called ,,Erntedank" around the same time as Thanksgiving but It is about thanking God that the froots and vegtables have grown so nice (I'm in 8th Grade in Germany and my English isn't the best)

The pilgrim fathers originally arrived from Plymouth, England. However they actually left the UK from Boston, Lincolnshire, settling in the Netherlands before coming back then setting off from Plymouth

It needs to be corrected because the first real Thanksgiving was held at Berkeley Hundred, Virginia 109 days before the arrival of the Plymouth settlers.

The charter of the boat that came to Virginia ordered the settlers to make the day of their arrival a holy holiday to be celebrated yearly. There was no turkey or pie but there were church services and prayers of "thanks" to God for a safe journey.
