So it's been a month and pretty much everybody's beaten this game but me, I love it so much I just don't want it to end!!! 😭😭😭 IT'S SO GOOD GUYS OMG if you have ANY hesitation at all about getting it, DON'T lol. And I wasn't that crazy about the first game, but the second one is so gleefully chaotic and borderline unhinged with the gameplay mechanics that I am 1000% going back to replay the first game, it's really that good. Improvements in every aspect--the visuals, the characters, the designs, the storytelling, the combat, there's just so much to do I have completely forgotten about the main stories and am having a blast just exploring and trying to optimize my squad. Everybody's around level 55 with my main man Hikari nearing 80 and I've barely cleared everybody's Ch. 3s.
(I still need to finish FE: Engage, which I also absolutely LOVE btw, but got distracted by Chained Echoes, which I also absolutely love, and then got distracted by Octopath 2 gahhhhhh and I still have yet to scratch the surface of Xenoblade 3 sigh thank goodness I am not a Zelda fan and am safe from TtoK on the horizon my backlog is already insane as it is!! 😭😭😭😭)
Ok I gotta talk about OT2's OST now. Yasunori Nishiki already made a huge splash with his excellent work on the first Octopath's OST, but OMG he absolutely KNOCKED IT OUT OF THE PARK with this one. Like I expected it to be more or less on par with the first game but holllllly crap how did he go above and beyond and top himself!?? And the day/night cycle with the night themes omg! Piano candy right there. Every single area I'm like UKHJFJGKHD THIS THEME IS SO GOOD and within a week @IsrafelCello and I already drew up a list of stuff we wanted to cover and we keep adding to it lmao, so there will be quite a bit of Octopath in this channel's future lol!
I started with Hikari because I love the Warrior class and Hikari is literally everything I ever wanted with his Chinese and Japanese hybrid aesthetic, which is also reflected in his character theme and the kingdom of Ku and I just LOVE THAT, like all the Hoshido stuff in Fire Emblem Fates. This theme plays in the first town area in his Ch. 1, and within 5 minutes I had put the controller down and was transcribing immediately lol. I'll probably end up doing every single theme featured in his story, one way or another because I'm a total flaming dumpster fire for when games draw inspiration from ancient China or Japan for the character designs and the music. 😍😍😍😍 FOR THE CULTURE LOL
So this theme is no exception, with a peaceful, longing minor pentatonic vibe, which is more classical Japanese (the Chinese tend to favor the major pentatonic), which gives way to this excellent funky rhythmic section for which all kinds of shenanigans may ensue for the repeat ahahaha. (I'm also doing the Night version of this theme with a percussionist buddy, where the shenanigans are getting a bit out of hand OTL) Andrew took it in a Mitsuda sort of direction, for which I was happy to follow suit lmao. Leaned extra hard into the major pentatonic for the ending for more Chinese flavor, which would probably make my ancestors cringe but oh well lmao.

Super amazing cover, absolutely love it! All the music in OT2 is seriously too good, especially love the ones around Hikari's story/map area as well as my main girl Ochette's! But there's literally not ONE bad song in this game and it just blows my mind!

Oh my god ok I've been desperate for Octopath 2 covers on CZcams and what a thrill to find this amazing one. Beautifully played by both of you, I loved this theme like so many others, the soundtrack is excellent. My top faves are Ochette's theme, Agnea's theme (honestly her theme is pure joy condensed into song), At Your Back, the themes that play in Sai, and the night version of Canalbrine. Hyped to hear that you're planning more!!

I think Ku's theme is gonna be the most nostalgic for me, out of this great OST. Hikari was my first and final chapter, and the fact you're gone for so long makes this already-gorgeous theme more special. Great job to you two! ❤

This was absolutely amazing. I love this serene vibe while also being yearning. There’s so much heart in this ❤ I can really feel the love you all have for this music. I love how the two of you play together. Even if you two are in different locations, it sounds like you’re playing live together!!! The stuff that Andrew is doing at 2:01 is insanely good!!! Also I love his upper register wow!! It’s so singing and it sounds like he’s soaring! I’m SO looking forward to future Octopath covers wow!

oh yeah octopath 2 was such a fun game. I had such a blast exploring and playing around with all sorts of combos and classes and abilities, sidequests were super fun little puzzles too!

Amazing arrangement and performance from both of you!! I love all the stuff you did on piano to fill out the space during the parts where the melody had long sustained notes, sounds super cool! I love the direction they took with the Warrior class in this game and how they leaned into a samurai style warrior, it's really cool!

Dood, this was a truly incredible cover from the two of you! I actually listened to this a while ago, but I didn't really know how to transcribe what I was feeling, lol.
0:49 is my favorite part in the song proper, where the piano gets kinda stern, and I can feel the tenderness of the cello a bit more, and they both help me adjust to the warmth of the land of Ku, and then you guys add this 2nd half, where it gets super complex and I just don't know where to start because I thoroughly enjoy every minute!

The first game was good, but this one was near perfect, and I'd do anything to experience it again for the first time, music, characters, and all. Agnea (main) and Castti are my favorites. Hikari was my main and my fave but tbh Castti had the best story and by the endgame Agnea was my MVP--frigging powerhouse on merchant with all wind weapons and Windy Refrain, AOE damage and turn manipulation? too busted lol

I wish I had more resources and time to play all of these wonderful games! These days I have to pick and choose very carefully which games I want to play as I just don't have the time due to responsibility, or the money for that matter.
Thankfully you are here to share these lovely themes with us! Sounds like I'm going to have to pick up OP2 though - that's pretty high praise. I'm a sucker for the HD-2D aesthetic though as I grew up with SNES RPGs, so the pixel art tugs at my heartstrings.

I've been absolutely addicted to Octopath II this past week so this came at just the perfect time. Currently grinding to fight Galdera, going to listen while continuing my search for caits.
ADDICTED TO OCTOPATH HAS BEEN ME FOR THE PAST MONTH OMG!! I'm only now getting to everybody's ch. 4s after sidequesting for ages lol, everybody's around level 65 with Hikari at 80, I hear Galdera is super hard so I'm looking forward to seeing what that fight is all about!!!!

Was cool to learn a little when you mentioned the minor pentatonic scale - love the mesh between japanese and chinese elements in hikari (it's literally in his name too with Hikari being a japanese name and ku being a Chinese one) and his music (the erhu in his theme just hits so hard).
Hope you enjoy finishing the game - I was so delighted to be surprised that it outclasses the first in every single way. So look forward to hearing a mitsuda-influenced take in the night theme! 😊 (All the night themes are just so good! So cool that they took the vocals from the main theme on the Beyond arrangement CD and mixed those with a sorta nier sound to create those lovely soft night themes)
YES YES YESSSS FELLOW HIKARI STARTER!!!! ❤❤❤ I'm finally wrapping up everybody's Ch.4s lol, I've just been mucking around trying to do sidequests and get all the best gear and optimizing my squad--it's just been a total blast!! I'm so glad you appreciate the mix of Chinese and Japanese cultures in his character design and for the kingdom of Ku in general--the fortress city and large throne room are definitely ancient Chinese influence as well as the color red for royalty! did you do all the endgame stuff?
@@purpleschala I didn't finish every sidequest but managed to beat the superboss after many hours lol. I really liked the difficulty level of the first games superboss (despite the boss rush) but octopath 2's one is like that on crack - insane. Still, there's plenty of cool stuff awaiting you after you finish everyone's chapter 4s - plus some awesome music of course! (The Gate of Finis Equivalent track slaps so hard. I hope they do an awesome arrangement like they did for Finis on the Break Boost Extend cd)
Yesss I love the throne room in Ku! I did everyone's chapter 4s in Octopath order, ending with Hikari, and it was so nice to take my endgame party into the throne room and celebrate coming full circle on Hikari's journey! I did the same in the first game and took everyone to Tressa (my starter)'s little bedroom. Thought it was very cute that I could do the same with Hikari (albeit his room is just a smidge fancier lol)

The biggest difference of this game and alot of other games is that alot of games nowadays make you feel like it is such slog to complete them while this game makes me hope that it doesnt end.... it is very hard to find a game that i don't wish it to end when it ends.... thats when i know.... i love this game

@@purpleschala i didn't even feel like i spent 80 hours on the game after it ends.... but then there are like 20% of the time i just leave the game ideally while eating/swiping my phone/talking to others etc etc
This is perhaps my 7th time listening to this arrangement since yesterday lol. Its amazing how you and israfelcello take songs and make it your own! Do you guys just go in knowing how you want to arrange it or transcribe it note for note first then play around with it?
AHH THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ahaha so what usually happens is that one of us transcribes a bare bones basic version, then sends it over to the other person. If it's me sending it to Andrew, he'll usually write ideas for his own cello part and a basic piano part and send it back to me, and I'll build upon his ideas for the piano part, or change things completely if inspiration strikes. Then i send it back to him to see what he thinks and we just pass it back and forth until we hit a point where we're like ok this is good ahahahaha

No it does not, to my knowledge. The sheet music is only available in print form and only if you backed the Kickstarter at one of the higher tiers.
