Frequently Asked Questions:
đ How old are you? 23
đ What are you studying? I am set to start my MA in English Literature at Oxford this autumn.
đWhat are your favourite books? âą 200 book recommendatio...
đ Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/reading-with-th...
đ Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
đ Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. These are all designed with students in mind and follow models which I've used when planning my studying. Our products are printed in pastel colours on recycled paper: bit.ly/3wgsR85
đ” What's your favourite tea? That's a REALLY hard one, but I think I'd have to say the B&B Chocolate Digestive Tea: bird-and-blend-tea-co.sjv.io/youwilllovethisone (affiliate link)
The most absurd twist this vlog could take is if you started critically analysing the Kendrick Drake beef
As someone who finds bees terrifying. I love learning about them and deeply appreciate what they do. As long as bees are a safe six feet away from me. I find them cute.
I, too, have a phobia of bees/wasps/hornets, so I 100% agree with you.
Oh hi everyone thanks for Rudy she is study has in Oxford University
My mom is terrified of bees. Iâm not. Since I am completely Deaf the buzzing doesnât bother me and Iâm unaware of their presence.
There is a beekeeper in Texas who posts videos of her work doing honeybee removals. Sheâs so calm she can work without protective gear. I find myself much less bothered by bees since watching her content. Yellow Jackets, though, can be really nasty.
@@Lighthearted2011 thankw
Always been surprised you donât like Austen when mentioned in the past. Her style of write is so funny and modern for her period. One of the greatest storytellers of all time, pushing the limits of what a woman was expected to do and be. Maybe try Northanger Abbey or Emma as theyâre more direct with their comedy?
i think alot of people are more selective of what of austen's works they like. Myself I dislike Emma. Though it is well written, i always felt like those characters like Lizzie and Anne were more relatable. Even Fanny, in her underdog positioni found more appealing,
I know this risks triggering an obsession,âŠ.but here we goâŠâŠ
As you like bees and flowers and find the natural history museum interesting, have you had chance to explore a herbarium? Particularly with reference to the way herbarium sheets are composed, or were composed historically, and the way nature was recorded by artists and scientific researchers and illustrators in the period before photography. I find the work stunningly beautiful. Although scientific in origin, itâs an art form in its own right, and then of course many people involved spin off into becoming creative with it, because how could you not.
I hope you enjoy your dissertation and final assessment period. Itâs been such a treat following you this year. Thanks for taking us along.
âi hope the world feels bright as you watch thisâ is possibly one of the cutest video openers ever
I would highly recommend Persuasion as a Austen read, I believe it's quite underrated and it's my second favorite of her books after Pride and Prejudice
i agree its my favorite book, by austen, i think its more relatable.
"The Girl Who Couldn't Read" sounds absolutely fascinating. I am adding it to my TBR!
And lovely vlog as always, Ruby. Even second-hand, there is so much peace in watching Oxford in the rain. So, thank you. â€
"there is nothing stressed university students like more than a beautiful library"
truer words have never been spoken
Thank you for both live-streaming and a new video, Ruby! And both are wonderful ;)
Excellent vlog Ruby - mixture of books, coffee and libraries - my three favourite things!
its the end of the semester and its getting so hard for me to be productive and do my assignments. watching your videos helps me so much
Love the museum †Here in Egypt we have a species of jerboa which apparently impressed the Brits much that they called it "The Egyptian Jerboa" although it could be found elsewhere đ
Flavours ?? You mean scents ?? đ Flavours is what you eat , scents are what you smell. Otherwise liked this vlog đ
The Girl Who Couldnât Read is the long-awaited sequel to the critically acclaimed international bestseller Florence and Giles but can also be read as a gripping standalone novel.
Such a cosy vlog †love the walks in nature
Ruby, I think itâs one of your best vlogs so far! Iâm enjoying every second of it! Itâs soooo cozy and interesting.
Such a beautiful campus and library! I love the architecture. The park is amazing, too! You live in such a wonderful area!
I absolutely love watching your videos Ruby! I think you have such a beautiful mind and I find you so inspiring, keep them up!
I really love your videos ruby you are such an inspiration can you share with us more videos about how to balance between school stress and mental health and how to stop stressing that much about uni and also more morning and night routines thank youuuđ
I only just stumbled upon your vlogs yesterday (the CZcams algorithm gods shone my way), and I have to say that they are so refreshing, and calming.
Thank you for the regular uploads đ„čđ«¶đ»
I love to see your walks round Oxford. A dear great aunt lived there and 3 of my cousins studied in Oxford. Keble, St Catherine's and the Institute of Education. I love to go there it has such charm. More recently my God child was at Exeter college so my association grows. You also make me realise how my higher education was not taken very seriously and how much more I could have achieved if I had worked much harder!
I love your outside adventures even in the rain and your enthusiasm for learning about new things including learning about bees. Iâm secretary of my church ladies group and last week had a wonderful speaker talking about fascinating flowers in Africa. His back ground is insects and he has a talk about bees which I might suggest to the committee for a talk in the future. I really must visit Monkton Nature reserve where he works. Another talk was wild orchids of Kent never knew we had so many at the reserve and he even found some out by our now closed manston airport xx Not seen Wonka yet but would love to. Ps May I please ask where u got your rain hat from ? Where I live itâs by the sea and often windy so umbrellas are a no no. I love Jane Austen persuasion is my fave but many young adults prefer Northanger Abbey xx enjoy you may also like her letters more and learn more about her in order to understand her writings xx could help xx
Very good Ruby. Always a pleasure!
In the video (15:55), I like when you can write your first draft; start working easily before writing more on your final draft.
The sound of the toast crunch is so peaceful . Vegan butter and gf bread so good
Thank you for sharing the Oxford scenes with us. I can understand your frustration with the rain as Oxford is a walkable city, and no one likes carrying an umbrella đ
Loved this video (as always with your Oxford videos, so scenic and moody)! Do you think you would consider making a video talking about your master's thesis? From what you've said about your course it sounds like it would be fascinating...
Yes yes I would love to see the archive vlog!!
It's the first time I ever bought something from an youtube ad, but how could I not with the cute bee case? :D Love your videos!
I love the narration in this video!
Thanks for another fab vlog! Btw, I was trying to work out how to create a PDF last night and this morning you have shown me how to do it! Thank you so much!!!!!!!
Aww Ruby im just watching this thinking about how I used to watch you almost religiously when I was preparing to go into year 10 and telling my parents that I was going to be like you. I watched all of your back to school videos and daily routines, Christmas study with mes and vlogs. Now I'm just finishing my second year of university at UCL and it's still the same. Love your videos, always have, always will!
I'm loving these slightly absurd videos haha
Itâs feel amazing to watch your video and it is so inspiring it motivates also
Nice vlog as always..Thank u for inspiring us to study Rubyđ
Your videos make me want to travel to Oxford so badly. I've already visited Cambridge and loved my time there.
Definitely want to see the archive visit!!
Ruby you make us so happy with vlogs which are light , natural. Very proud of you dear, nearing one million soon. Studies with vlogs and so much knowledge deadly combination â€â€â€â€â€â€, love from India
Great video, Ruby, Really enjoyed watching it !
Nice one Ruby. I admire your comfort with the quirky. I suspect that your family encouraged this. I still chuckle at the memory of a previous video in which the perfectly serviceable refrigerator in your family home has a hand-written sticker across the brand name, declaring it to be a SMEG. Wonderful!
Ruby, I am an elderly man in middle America. I love following your adventures.
OH MY GOOOD THE WONKA SOUNDTRACKKKKâ€â€â€â€â€
These videos are lovely!
I didn't know about that PDF conversion trick. Thanks! :)
I've found that I love watching your vlogs while folding my clothes or organising paperwork, they make chores feel so much lighter and even relaxing.
Also, I really need to give a chance to Jane Austen as well, since I'm not a big fan of romance, I've been putting off reading her books for years now, perhaps that's my sign.
Oh and if you like The Girl Who Couldn't Read (or even if you dislike it), I highly recommend Florence and Giles, it's the unofficial prequel and, in my opinion, much better! When you think you know what's happening, it takes a 180° turn.
Okiee now I wanna watch wonka too. The cover the book grief as a thing with feathers (didn't catch that properly) is so cool btw
My favourite kinda video đ€đ€đ€
Northanger Abbey and Sense and Sensibility are my favourite Austen's!!
ruby this is so funny! please write a book in which you talk about the rain as youve just done here :)
I find your videos ever so intriguing and beguiling. Listen to kiss on the rain by yiruma. I play this on such days.
That potato pea and mint vegetables sounds delicious!
I am enjoying your Slightly Absurd videos very much! Your subtle ( and sometimes obvious ) sense of humor is wonderful and always brightens my days
Such a comfortable vibe
Ruby I always love your videos
I was wondered by the fact that I can't recognise this book by Gogol. And then I realised that it os originall (in russian) called "Notes of the madman". And the name on the book is just a quote from this book)
I didnât like Jane Austen either until I read Northanger Abby. From my recollection (and this was quite a long time ago) itâs gothic and a bit slow paced but the scenes she depicts are just perfect and somewhat nostalgic because theyâre through the eyes of the naive Catherine. One of my favorite books and you have made me want to re read it!
I love your raincoat and matching hat! So cute. :) I also love the rain. Currently having a very wet May in New Hampshire, US.
I know someone who just drove up there yesterday. Nice area! đșïž
@@rhythmicelegance4670 It is! Lucky to be here. đ
YOU DONT LIKE THOSE LIL TEACAKES?!! RUBY HOW COULD YOU
Reading the Jane Austen books and watching her films are very enjoyable. Do you ever want to read 'Lady Susan' and 'Sanditon'. 'The Girl Who Could Not Read' sounds interesting. Going to the Natural History museum and reading about the bees is very entertaining. Bees are beautiful insects who must be protected. Without them, we will not survive.
I hope you enjoy Northanger Abbey! I feel like it's the black sheep of the Austen novels, so it's my favourite đ Also, Bridget Collins's new book is out. I'd love to hear what you think in your annual(?) review.
Ps please May I ask what was the book that mentioned Narnia?? Ty x
i would love archive content/vlogs â€â€â€â€
Whatâs that cool keyboard that you use for your iPad?
brushing teeth sounds at the beginning đđđ
Please correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Wild deodorant the brand who started out bullying and bodyshaming people into buying their product? đ I remember seeing a ton of commercials of theirs telling people they stink, that they're "disgusting" and the only way to fix it is to buy their product.
LOL! Isn't the point of deoderent to stop people from stinking?
@Yesica1993 Of course it is. The marketing they were going for wasn't the right way to go about it though. Evidently so because they got a lot of backlash for it and switched it up. I just thought I'd bring it to Ruby's attention because she feels strongly about bullying and she most likely doesn't know.
"a biscuit tin is a necessity" YES!! đ€©đđâ€
I utterly adore Jane Austen, she was a genius and was so ahead of her time. Pride and Prejudice is one of my favorite books of all time. But you should try Persasion which is my second fsvorite and utterly wonderful. She wrote it in a race against time as she was dying from what is believeed to be Hodgekins disease ( I think). Emma is also wondewrful and one of my fsvourites.
I have so many things with bees on them. Teapots. Teacosy. Cups. My dear old horse Buzz is 36 and he reminds me of bees. :-).
I love Jane Austen. I have read sense and sensibility and pride and prejudice and now Iâm on to Mansfield park :-) I throughly enjoy reading her books. â€
I canât get into Austen either Iâve tried multiple times throughout my life.. Iâm probably due for another try soon đ€
A donut date sounds like such a successful and enjoyable day!! đâ€
Ruby what are you going to do once you are finished your Masters? Not long now!
I made a playlist of almost all your videos that I binge watch when I studyâ€
your outfits scream OXFORD.they just keep on getting better and better plus your videos are a kind of solace for me,comforts me alot.
I highly recommend "Emma" by Jane Austen. It's incredibly witty, one of my personal favorites. I believe you'll like it! đI also read "Northanger Abbey" and enjoyed it, particularly for its satirical elements.
Iâve got solution 4 you. 1 litre ice cold water 2 five tea bags. And this is gone in 2 the fridge 2 overnight. My favourite combination.
P.S. If love Ruby Granger you love tea.
Oh definitely upload the archive visit vlog! I crave the academic content đ»
Buttered toast and raw carrots is underrated đ€
Anyone else think of the Black Mirror episode with robotic bees, when Ruby mentioned how essential they are to the ecosystem?
09:51 Woah! It's an American football field. It seemed unusual and somewhat random until I found there are two Oxford American football clubs. I wonder if they use the filed for practice.
That is also my favourite salad and I thought it was discontinued too
Going to check out wild
My favourite Austen book is Mansfield Park. Maybe you'll like that one đ
I read it ages ago so maybe Iâll give it another go at some point! X
Hi recently started studying latin any chanse we could have a vedio on
You latin study routines/ methods?
If real life ever happens to this chick, itâs gonna hit hard.
Are The Vaults still open?!đ§ĄThey were in peril of not being able to stay in their current location.đ
Hi Ruby,! On the Jane Austen front, I would recommend you read Emma, if after reading it you still don't like Jane Austen then it's a done deal but you should definitely give it a try. It's (in my opinion) her wittiest and most hilarious book. Let's say her pen was particularly sharp on that one. đ
Glad you posted again!
Sort of random, but raw carrots are a great snack! They help remove excess estrogen for the body!
Ruby, you look especially beautiful in this one đž
Do you think you'll do a phd ?
Ruby try reading 'Emma'! I think its the most fun, most gossipy, most joyful Austen.
D0 you see a difference between these two words - Love - vs- lust? I quote someone now, as saying " Love can always wait to give , But lust can never wait to get."
I love persuasion by Jane Austen. I find I didn't enjoy Emma and pride and prejudice as much as the others, but I did enjoy the movies I then went back and re-read the books and found that I appreciate them more and enjoy them. Not favorites but that is ok.
I think it's fine to not like universally adored authors like Austen, but I also think her books are super different. I didn't think much of her before I read Persuasion which is her last and less known work. It has gravity and earnestness that spoke to me on a personal level the way other books did not.
The narration in this video is SO good!
Wild "flavors" lol.
Every time, someone mentioned Emma Bridgewater, I think I only live 15 minutes away from the factory.
Hi Ruby!
This is quite random, but what is the name of the piece of music that is faded into at around 13:43? you've used it for the introduction for some of your study videos and each time I hear it it's so comforting! Also, if anyone else knows please let me know.
With smiles,
Sophie
Thoughts in the rain
Such a comforting vlog
