Kyoto is the number one travel destination in Japan, and because there are SO. MANY. things to see there it can be hard to figure out where to go. These are our three recommendations for first-time visitors: Kiyomizu-dera, Arashiyama (which is also where Tenryu-ji is), and Gion and the nearby street Shijo Dori + Yasaka shrine. Fushimi Inari Taisha is probably one of the more famous areas, but for us it was SO crowded that it was difficult to even get around. It kind of just made me feel sad because you could tell how incredibly beautiful and almost magical it would have been hundreds of years ago, but with the crowds today it was just about impossible to enjoy it. That's just my opinion, though, and many people love it anyway!
Kiyomizu-dera, Arashiyama, and the Gion general area are all extremely crowded, too (of course), but to me they were worth it despite that. And that's saying something because I can't stand crowded tourist spots!!
We also met the amazing singer Reika (of the group Juuichi) on Shijo Dori, and they very graciously allowed us to use their music!!

Great video guys. Kyoto is one of those places you never really "complete" or finish sightseeing, it's just overwhelming... so many beautiful places, including the ones on your video. ^^
That song was beautiful! I could really feel it...
+Rachel & Jun , this is so beautiful , the nature as well
and the singer's voice O_O !!! pure beauty
You should have visited Nintendo's headquarters. They don't allow tours in their corporate campus because it's is very much restricted from the general public but you could at least walk by their offices next time. Pleeeeeeeasse. :3
I saw her too! her voice was amazing! so many people had to stop and listen to her beautiful voice. it made the view of the water even better.
The singing at the end gave me chills!
you mentioned how insanely crowded it is but you did a really good job in not showing that crowd!
lol.
The cat is looking at the duck like "Someday..."
hahaha i just thought the same thing
When my husband had to travel to Japan for work last summer, we spent 3 days in Kyoto, and I absolutely loved it! Our Japanese hosts insisted on taking us to Kiyomizu-dera. Oh my goodness! It is absolutely breathtaking! And the workmanship is incredible, especially considering they were able to make buildings that grand that are still standing today, and all without using nails! It was like a giant jigsaw puzzle! From an engineering perspective, my husband was enthralled! The group was trying to move on, and my husband was still studying how they were able to put it together lol.
The cinematography work is so beautiful, Jun, you really have an artistic sensibility that you cannot ever hide. It shows in your cooking, and presentation of your cooking videos.
But these videos… I keep on using your videos as reference when I explain to others what draws me to Japan. You capture such amazing shots, and the music done to accompany it is actually what drove me to tears watching this.
You have a gift, Jun.
My friends are so much better than me at everything, but it made me really happy! I'll keep learning and improving as much as I can. Rachel took a lot of footage and edit really hard, too. I think she's way better than me. She actually helps me edit the cooking video as well. I can't make good videos without her, but not the other way around. Thank you for the warm message! :)
+Rachel & Jun I would never want Rachel to feel unappreciated, I notice her as well! She is articulate and artistic, too. I'm sorry if my irresponsible wording made you feel like I was favoring one of you instead of you both as a duo.
You are making such progress, both of you! I am just so proud of you both and how far you've come.
Comme dit un proverbe : Il n'y a pas de bon travail sans de bons ouvriers!!!
Nyxie Darling They do an amazing couple. Jun is good with the camera, and Rachel is good with explanations and culture stuff.
Typically Japanese. Incredible standards!
Our trip(s) to Kyoto!! We've been working on this video since last fall during our first trip. So excited to finally be able to upload it!!!
I like the woman's voice
The effort really shows! What an excellent video!
Jun's videography is always cool to watch. It's very charming.
It looks so professionally done too!
Kyoto is my favorite city in Japan! I really love how they blend the old with the new!
I live in Kyoto teaching English to elementary and junior high students in public schools, through the JET Programme. I watched this video and I must say that you've capture the very essence of Kyoto's beauty. I could watch this again and again. Thank you so much for making such incredible CZcams videos and being an inspiration for many people around the world. You guys rock!
Also, I bought a CD from that singer by the Kamo river too! It's such beautiful soothing music. Great choice!
This felt more like a documentary rather than a 9 minute video holy smokes
beautiful girl
Please take a look - czcams.com/video/DTCqDryE7oY/video.html
Actually its 8 minutes and 53 seconds
it blows my mind every time i watch your guy's videos. content is top notch and the camera quality is insane!
凄くきれい!日本に行きたい!
ありがとうございます! ぜひ来てみてください!
for me, kyoto is the most beautiful place in the world... not that i have visited many places around but that place made me feel like home. i LOVE kyoto! ♡
4:46 That lonely hat makes me so melancholic! :-(
Kosmic Kunt Kandy Or they're learning English and context is sometimes not understood yet when people are learning a new language. Or it's really just the word they intended to use all along. Don't be a dick, man.
Kosmic Kunt Kandy As a matter of fact when I read Phillipe's comment it gave me goosebumps because how ACCURATELY melancolic that moment was, especially alongside that woman singing. I am glad that he decided to share his feelings about that and I would probably comment on that floating hat moment myself if I haven't stumble upon his comment. You on the other hand could have kept your negativity to yourself, though. You decided not to unfortunately.
Isn't "nostalgic" the word you're looking for?
@@hummingbirdaoi1034 It depends. I lost a hat once too and on that day I had quite a fight as well...
@@edi9892 I hope you found a better hat than the one before. Although they're objects, some of them can have meaning to the owners :c
"A girl dropped her hat"
Next scene: Rachel, wearing no hat, looking away from the camera ashamedly.
rachel droppet her hat
I went to Kyoto last May, and this video made me so nostalgic I started to get a little choked up.
Your filming skills are something to marvel at! Lovely video and Kyoto looks enchanting!
I am so jealous !!! I will visit Japan one day I swear !!! I might even decide to live there if I love it as much as I do now before actually having visited yet !
Wow, you took the most amazing shots ever!!! this video was so well made, specially the way you mix the video and music at the end. Love it!
Was just going to comment this! This is a professional travel mini-documentary!
Aww I used to live in Kyoto, I miss it so much now :( 懐かしいなぁ~!
The Japanese Tourist industry must love you guys for your videos.
If I ever go to Japan I will plant potatoes in the most random places just to confuse people. If the potatoes don't get harvested, then next year new plants to will grow.
This guy plants his potatoes everywhere on the internet already.
Beautiful video! I love the song. Uniquely beautiful.
What I find amazing about Japan is the amazing differences between the traditional, beautiful nature and the busy, strange city. Really great.
Every shot of the video is so perfect, it's absolutely amazing !
Kyoto is one of my favorite cities in Japan. It is very beautiful, especially the geishas neighborhood.
I proposed to my fiancée at the location showed at 2:51. It wasn't a particularly romantic place but I was so glad I did it there.

Rachel & Jun Haha , no Hebrew? ??
✨ Magic, ✨ it's the only word that can discribe this video 🤗
Oh my god?? You guys, this has to be literally one of the most beautiful videos I have EVER seen. The editing, the angles, the shots, it's all so incredible. Thank you for this video. It sounds cheesy but it literally almost brought me to tears because it was THAT beautiful.
I loved Kyoto.
I fell in love with it.
The people, the places, the food and the atmosphere.
It's so magical.
It's so incredibly beautiful! Everytime you show me something new I can't help myself longing for seeing it with my own eyes. It's so breathtaking!
I love Kyoto! I hope to travel there someday. The scenery, culture and history seem so interesting and beautiful! 🌸💖
Wow the greenery is amazing 😍
Just a spectacular brief tour, thank you both so much. That song and singer are absolutely haunting and beautiful.
This was my favorite video yet from you. Ive always wanted to travel to Kyoto. I loved seeing all the different beautiful temples, bamboo forests, and cityscapes. That song was lovely, and fit the visuals perfectly. Thank you for posting.
I fell in love with Kyoto, my favorite city in Japan and probably also in the world! Love Japan very much! ❤️
Absolutely gorgeous video you guys!
I literally wanted to cry while watching this! I have such an intense passion for culture and places and you guys filmed this so beautifully!
Absolutely beautiful video of Japan. Thank you June and Rachel you guys are amazing couple. Please continue to live happy life.
This was such a beautiful video & I really appreciate how much effort went into this. Amazing :)
I love this video series you guys have been doing with Odigo. I love seeing all the beautiful places and hearing about the cultures!
Between the beautiful music and videography, you literally brought me to tears remembering Kyoto... Thinking once is not enough...
one of the things I'm most amazed by is how clean and clear the water is! and of course all the views are incredibly gorgeous. thanks for the making this video!
Man, I only made it to Arashiyama and Gion out of these places in Kyoto when I was there in April. I think I missed a lot of Gion while I was there but Arashiyama was one of my favourite places ever. If you go during the week when it's drizzling, it's not crowded and still beautiful despite the rain.
Love Kyoto!!!! Great place, great video and great Channel!!
This video is probably one of the most beautiful videos there is on youtube about Kyoto. Every frame is a beautiful painting I would have on my wall. Cheers to you guys!
Really wish to visit Japan someday.
wow, Kyoto is so beautiful. some amazing shots
It looks so incredibly beautiful! And I'm blown away with how beautiful Reikas singing is! Thanks for sharing it with us!
Did Jun film all the shots and did the editing? because this entire video is so tastefully done. Everything just flows so well n looks amazing. Love it!
The trip to Kyoto, wow that was beautiful scenery and that woman her voice was beautiful. Thank you for your work.
6:17 Her voice is really breathtaking! glad you found her.. 😀
Another awesome video! sukiii!~~~ 😊💕
GORGEOUS! the scenery, the music, the angles, the slowmo and closeups, and the funny/awed comments in-between! what a great video! the ministry of tourism itself couldn't have scripted a better promotional video for Kyoto!
Thank you so much!! That really means a lot to us! :D These travel videos take forever but they end up being my (Rachel) favorite videos to make!
haha nothing beats a project that you enjoyed working on AND feel proud of! this is the seal of confirmation that it was worth every minute (and yen) and you did a great job!
Absolutely amazing vid!
This video was so relaxing. You two are my favorite Japanese blog couples! I literally sit and watch your videos for hours.
This definitely deserves more views! Such great editing and so many wonderful sights. Thanks, guys!
Every time I watch your videos, I think about how beautifully edited they are. So I'm probably saying this for the millionth time. 😂 Good job. :)
Man, I didn't want this video to end, so beautiful and relaxing D;
Kyoto us such a beautiful place, doing a study abroad in Japan right now and just went to Kyoto about 5 days ago. it's definitely breathtaking. love it!
Ahhh the last half with the music was so serene, it put me in a really nice mood.
Arashiyama was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Definitely recommend!
One of my places to visit Kyoto. Money, where are you???? I need to go to Japan so bad before I get old.
Have you gone yet?
So much nostalgia! Felt so strange seeing you all walk around places I had walked around myself last year :)
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous!
I couldn't understand why are there dislikes on this video really and Jun seems like a very chill guy to hang out with , one of the best video i had pleasure to watch .
最近このチャンネル知ったけど音楽とか映像とかセンスの固まりじゃねぇーか
This is an amazing video showing an absolutely breathtaking city. I sighed watching this so many times missing the last time I was there. Thank you!
I don't know what it is about your videos, but I always find myself getting chills after a few seconds in.They always brighten up my day haha.
;w; Kyoto was beautiful I regret only having one day to visit it, we only got to see Kyomizudera and the golden pavilion both were very breathtaking.
Wonderful photography work!
Totally agree :D
The music is just beautiful and so are the places they went! 😍
You know,i like this channel because they make relaxing videos, explaing very good everything and it just makes me want to go to Japan.
Also Rachel..your voice is very soft and i love it.
god i just started bawling my eyes out during this one. im going to japan in spring 2018 and im so excited, ive been waiting and saving for so long! i cant wait to live there!
Lucky, good on you
:o
Marius Kajanas thank you!!
Yay I have been waiting for this vid! I love Kyoto!
I LOVED Kiyomizu-dera! My friends and I really struggled at first, as we had to figure out the bus system, and then make the grueling trek up to where it was. It was probably 85+ degrees out. We were all pretty annoyed with each other but once we made it to the top and saw how beautiful the view was and how amazing the temple grounds were it was like the stress just melted away. Also, going through the pitch-black tunnel under one of the buildings was like an other-worldly experience, at least in my case xD
That was so beautiful! And that voice...icing on the cake!!
Magnificent scenery and beautiful City! Wonderful!
A very nice Production. Thumbs up!!
Kind regards - Othmar -
This video is awesome ! Now I just want to travel the world to come to Japan...
Y'all are seriously killing me! Its so amazingly beautiful and that song was awesome. I want to see every single inch of Japan.
I loved the song at the end! She has a very beautiful voice, makes me want to go visit Japan that much sooner! Lol
Very well filmed and edited. I almost had a job at a game studio in Kyoto years ago. Now I see what I missed. Thanks.
Japan is, in my opinion, a heaven. Because the majority of people living in Japan are very disciplined. That is why I love your country so much. The technological advancement, especially in Japan, is highly commendable. Thank you both so much for displaying the beauty of your country in such a wonderful way. The video is very creative. My only hope is to visit Japan after completing my education. Love from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 .
wow... Arashiyama is beautiful. love that bamboo forest, its simply amazing.
Thank you very much for your recommendations and efforts you put into filming and editing this masterpiece! I am going to Japan this summer and will definitely visit places mentioned in the video!! They look absolutely amazing and totally breathtaking!
Yay a new upload!!!!!!!!
YAY!!!!!
Jun's just like me when trying to get in front of groups of students. I just start telling all my friends to run XD
This video is gorgeous!!! Because of your partnership with Odigo, I actually started an account and am saving up money to go. I will definitely use them when I travel. The shot of the white bamboo on the sides of the frame was stunning. I can only imagine how much time and effort it takes to do this...thank you for blessing the internet with this!
I had to do a project on Japan in 6th grade and ever since that I absolutely fell innove with it even tho I haven’t gone to it. I researched about Japan and the place that caught my attention was Kyoto. Because of that I had a peek of what Japanese culture was, in 7th grade I realized what anime was, I saw the type of food they ate, what they wore and more interesting things and it’s beautiful. I respect their culture very much. It’s interesting and I hope to go there one day
Amazing Song, didnt know such a voice could exist
When we walked passed by her, we literally stopped and couldn't look away. We bought her CD immediately! Her voice is something else.
Aaaaaaah! I'm just speechless. I totally wanna be there. RIGHT NOW, JESUS.
I love Kyoto. Such an amazing city and an honest must see.
i could watch an hour of this and not get tired of so much beauty! that shot at 7:21 is absolutely GORGEOUS and the hat on the water reminded me of a children's movie-like scene. wonderful video! thank you for sharing images of such a beautiful place with people who can't exactly go there.
If you're a fan of the anime Tamako Market, you can visit Demachi Masugata Shopping District while in Kyoto!
That sounds amazing (also cause someone knows what that anime is. I feel like no one saw it)
Anomie Train You can visit pretty much any spot that KyoAni has enviormentally did art off, since they are in Kyoto and they often go "field-trip referencing" for their animes, I saw the bridge of Koe No Katachi and also the station of Hibike Euphonium in this video so that says it all, I love Japan, not only because of anime but because the culture, the people, the landscapes, I would love someday to visit Japan and specially Kyoto so maybe in the future I will
Thanks for the tip
Arashiyama is my fav place in Japan.
Thank you so much for this video. I've been to Kyoto twice now, and every I see anything about it... I want to go back. I never really want to leave. The history is almost a taste in the air.
Thanks for all your videos, very helpful when planning! Also Rachel, your voice is perfect for narration too!
I bet the dislikes are from people who want to go themselves but can't atm ;)
So beautiful; I was in Kyoto a few years ago and got very, very lost after climbing all the way to the top of the hill behind Kiyomizu-dera. I ended up in woods full of old, old cemetery markers, mossy statues of the fox guardians and torii that were no longer being used (the rice ropes on the torii had long ago fallen apart and were just hanging there in pieces)-- very spooky, with little streams flowing everywhere (I got very thirsty and drank from one that dropped down into a tunnel) and not another person around. Eventually I found the paths through the very tall bamboo woods and came down in a tiny village on the other side of the hill, and a taxi eventually picked me up and took me to my train station. I had walked several km and had been lost for hours! So that was quite an experience. But the city is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, and the people are so kind; I love it there and hope to go back. I could spend the rest of my life in Kyoto.
The part with Juuichi's music was really beautiful it gave me chills. This video was beautifully edited!
