- The England Wags have been consoling their husbands and boyfriends following the Three Lions' loss to Croatia in the World Cup semi-final tonight. The England squad's wives and girlfriends hugged and kissed the players following the 2-1 defeat at the Moscow stadium. Players fell to their knees in tears at the final whistle while millions of people watching at home were also left weeping after coming so close to getting to the final.

He did not just restore our faith but he restored our pride... We knocked out teams that were expected to win, we battled through dodgy decisions off the ref to reach the final and lost only on penalties which are a 50/50 shot

I'm not British but I really appreciated english football in this World Cup, and I think Gareth must stay being the manager 'cause he's made England proud, made'em feel better and believe that they are able to get quarterfinals, semifinals and even final, one day. I believe in him, above all, I respect him and his team. He's a manager that, I swear, I've never seen someone like him, so respectful, humble, a true British man. As I said, he deserves to continue with his work. Football can be not coming home... but more important than that, y'all got, dignity, respect and a new hero. Gareth Southgate is an icon.

This is what England was looking for, for a very long time, an English, proper patriotic, international playing experienced, knowing deeply as a player what it takes and what went wrong previously when you can have all the stars you need, an inside man, The Coach and Southgate is that. I truly believe one day England will win the world cup with him.
It could of only taken someone like Gareth to find s way. It really is great story, redemption for the missed penalty. England fans never forget but we give everything to see our own comforted and supported

From being boo'd off the pitch after the shambles against Iceland to being cheered home and given a heroes welcome 2 years later...whatever he does, or doesn't do in the rest of his time with England, he brought back pride in the national team
And at a time when the country was on its knees at the hands of the government just for a few weeks we all went on a rollercoaster and built our pride back up

Greetings from Hungary! Mr Southgate made a wonder with the english national team after 1990. I am a local patriot my heart is hungarian my soul is hungarian. Gareth Southgate deserves applauds for his work this summer. I don't consider him a particularly special coach (he might prove me wrong), but I think his man management and pragmatic nature have given the country a respectable role model and image in the football world. His performances were way beyond expectations and he's made this side popular across the world, not a normal occurrence with England sides

Almost impossible to think England will get such an easy draw again blew a golden opportunity but fans are happy with the achievement that matters
Italy lost playoff to Sweden. German got their asses kicked by South Korea and Mexico in group stage. Portugal almost got sent home crying early by Iran, only saved by the goalpost. There is no easy team.
