      @@DaleSteel he does retail some very risky stock ie 20 year old 120k Audi A8, 18 year old Phaeton or 10 year old 520d and then there’s the unrealistic expectations that the buyers of these cars attract. Want to mean a weapons grade bell end advertise a 2003 Audi A8.

    I've been in this game for 15 years and i've been in this spot a few times. the best advice i can give is to rattle through these cars asap! Out source the, repairs, aution them, trade them, whatever...but get the money and space back to work asap! make back your losses on the next one, otherwise this list will never be any smaller than it is right now, as another headache is always around the corner. .

    That would break my heart as a business having all that £££ sitting about that could be making me £££ so I feel your pain, a few good cars in there too.
    Hopefully get another mechanic in soon as get the cars moving, good luck, love your videos as it's down to earth,as it is, not hyped up stuff for likes etc, keep it up! 👍

    Really informative and great vid dude, I work in a garage and it's so difficult to explain to customers when their car will be done when there's 50+ other cars waiting for parts, recoveries, extra mot fails etc. And then you get through those and another lot just turns up! Hopefully you get it sorted in time

    That’s some arena, get half a dozen flood lights up and you’ve the whole shabang!
    Love that trade site I could spend hours down there 😂
    Unfortunately I’m not a mechanic (and also based in Northern Ireland), but that would be a great opportunity. Lots of cars there, most of which don’t need massive jobs, but just need time spending on them. Would be bliss just working through them.

    Have to concur on the Lexus, my seemingly imaculate low millage, 2010 250 F sport has a rottern fuel tank, looking underneath the under trays seem to trap huge amounts of road grit and mud, shame as it's lovley to drive , but will have to go 😢

    Seems like you are in tight spot, but if you been there before I’m sure you will find a way out. I guess just not having more mechanics but also the ramp space to work on the cars. My local garage is also finding it difficult to find mechanics as now booking in my own car is not straight away as it was before

    It’s far too easy to fall into that hole when it comes to older stock and the problems they bring. Backlog slips away from you and next thing you know you’re 30 cars deep, stagnant stock and frozen capital. Messy but I’m very sure you’ll pull clear of it quickly. What about a flash trade sale on the long finger stuff. Cut your losses, hire a new mechanic and move on. Great channel by the way. Love the content. Very honest about life in the motor trade. 👍

      Familiar story! we've been selling older stock the last 9 months, as you just can't buy sub 5 year old cars right now, but the headaches are unreal!

    Sorry to see your woes Joe. Seems like your drowning in cars that need fixing. Would it be worth farming some of the work out to a local reliable garage, maybe one that you know and trust. Would be expensive I guess but might be worth it to off load some vehicles and some stress. Good luck👍

    Unfortunately that's how it is now, it's nearly impossible to just wash n go, I've got 42 stood, some since 2019,hardly any terminal but lots to do, there's so much to go wrong these days.

      A friend of mine, who is a mechanic here, stated het had the same workload now as back in the 1980's. Then: rust. Now: everything.

      @@vangestelwijnen yes bud, back in the day I had loads of cars at the welders, inner and outer sills, you still get some rust tho now, got a freelander 2 in with sill rust, you don't really expect it on a 5k car these days.

      I was selling modern vans until 2015 then switched to classic cars
      Basically to avoid this
      Another way to avoid this is to specialise in one car for example fiestas or corsas or both that way the mechanic knows what he’s doing as it’s only fiestas or corsas and you can keep common parts in stock

      @@chiefrocka8604 good idea bud, I like a change of vehicles tho, I used to restore classics in the 90s onwards, got a bit fed up with endless welding tho, had a few e types, loads of mgbs, interceptor, I've not had anything since they became big money though, last e type I did was 9250 for a s1 coupe and got 17.5k for it.

    Given the cost of parts and labour, complexity of modern cars and unrealistic expectations of people I don't think there's much point in retailing older stuff.

    It’s a pity….the customer returns, for repair are a real priority to clear the back log, occupying dead space.I don’t live in the
    UK, but hiring labour is an issue in most developed countries…..

    good video,the other problem of course is getting the parts and paying what in some cases is bonkers prices as you mentioned on the lexeye,many people think cars fix themselves when they view and its had proper preperation before its offered

    Outsource the simple task so you can tick the to do list find an experianced mechanic or find an experianced garage where u can shake hands on some prices and jobs some time you have to out source mot repairs should be a walk in the park jobs

    Maybe some of the cars should be scrapped or sold for parting out, especially if would take a lot of money to meet MOT or even run right. It isn't just the lack of decent mechanics, but sometimes there are much deeper and costly issues that initially appears, parts matching, availability and price issues that can kill any profit on such cars.

    If you work it out you've probably sold a ratio of 10 to 1 stood, I've done say 400 in the last 3 years and got 40 ish stood so it's how it happens, if you stop buying and get onto the ones stood your missing new profit, probably easy ones, so there's no real solution.

    Hi... Aside from the lack of another mechanic what type of warranty do you offer on your retail stock? Is it not possible to outsource the warranties so that customers can get the work sorted themselves rather than bring everything back to you to fix? ...... Just a thought ...

      Warranty wise you sell the car and include the warranty and make sure you explain to the customer in the event of a problem call the warranty company , in other words you pass the blame . That’s what I’ve seen and know

    Try to minimize the brands. There's advantages to dealing in only certain brands. Sharing of parts, ease of diagnosis, gaining expert knowledge in the brands model.

      I’ve just said this on another reply, I’d do corsas or fiestas maybe both and the thing with that is you know the faults as you see them regularly
      You want cheap parts new and a mechanic who can fit them quick not someone who don’t know how to do Lexus or Porsche jaguar etc

    I think you need a workshop mechanic/manager who actually sets up a plan with deadlines. At present you are wasting shitloads of money through poor management of stock and tbh your site is beginning to look like a breakers yard. Have some positive thoughts, dump the crap and get back to a shiny forecourt where all issues are dealt with within a time frame. Good luck.

    You most definitely have a technician bottleneck. Get a mobile mechanic in for a month and give him some guaranteed work to free up some stress. Everyone's happy.

    I will never own a car younger than 15yrs old.
    They are way too complicated and older cars are way easier to fix.
    You are on a hiding to nothing doing engine rebuilds these days ⚠️
    Got my Rover 75 Tourer in 2005.
    Done 210k miles with clean MOT's
    It just keeps going and never let us down 😅

      Used cars go wrong, even new ones will. If the customer wants it fixed, it’s at the front of the queue and if they want a refund, we do it no quibbles. I can’t guess which car is going to blow a head gasket or oil cooler but luckily our after sales sorts it one way or another. Cowboys wouldn’t hand out full refunds, give your head a wobble

      So what would you do do GG ?
      I’d stick to one brand or model eg fiestas corsas Clio’s or all 3 and sell warranty’s the customer uses at other garages
      I’ve lost count of the garages that don’t fix cars just sell them and a warranty so swerve repairs
      Clearly works that

      @@chiefrocka8604 buy better cars so you get less comebacks and make sure they are thoroughly checked out before sell. Trouble is most car dealers are greedy feckers. They buy it for peanuts but want top dollar if you can find the ones that buy at a fair price and sell at the same fair price your find those guys have very little if no comebacks. It’s good to own up to your mistakes but by keep making the same mistakes means your not learning from it.
