@Alice Rodríguez Not all poor children are going to America especially that the Americas are separated from the rest by the 2 largest oceans in the world, Atlantic and Pacific. Believe it or not, there are a lot of poor people who wouldn't want to live in America even given the chance. This irrational fear that poor people are going to overwhelm America is so useful for politicians that much is clear though. Instead of dignity to show compassion, fear and distrust are being used and these in turn, lead to hatred in the end.

AOC is an example of the fresh and exciting possibilities that more younger politicians can bring to our country. They care deeply about humanity, while being technologically savvy and can bring their messages in many different ways to voters. Old and weary senior citizens shouldn't be in politics over 20,30 yrs or more while voting for their donors desires over their consitutents. They become millionaires or billionaires and have lost the empathy for those average citizens and potential voters they are sworn to protect.

As it is, I expect we don't hear about the rich people quietly being enraged that they can't get the disposable labor they need to pick crops and run meatpacking plants.
The rich folks want to be able to pay too little and or operate in unsafe ways, and/or just fire workers that get hurt.
*If there were an easy way for immigrants to get a work permit* then we could stop these workers from being so exploited...and we could tax them.
*The system keeps them illegal on purpose.* To make them easier to exploit by major employers.

So what I take from his answer is: it came down to money....children's lives vs. saving money These people have no morals.
Unfortunately many US govt departments are unfunded. They passed over responsibility without funding. To stop the system from collapsing they prioritised the sick children. AOC was right the failure is with Congress. Very easy to apportion blame when you hamper a dept. I don't agree with it but Congress should do more.
