- She makes the shadow deeper,
She makes the eyes light,
she makes her lips redder,
a red hot mouth
She doesn’t look for reflection
she’s looking for the face
that she had
before
the world existed
and if in her eyes
no compassion you find
no love in her arms
no warmth in her lips
Playing at being your lover
she never deceived you
she gave you what there was,
before
the world existed
My name is Harry Leurink. I am a sculptor and musician. I have been making music all my life. I've also suffered pain for most of my life. The pain never goes away. I've had painkillers for it, antidepressants, tranquilizers. And sedatives.
They left a big mark on my life. You take pills at night, but they keep working during the day. They make your life dull, foggy, out of focus. I was tormented, dysfunctional, defective.
This song is about something that keeps luring you back, but never gives you anything. The cold, melancholy emptiness that enveloped me. That's how I felt at the time. I used the pills for 28 years; now I'm off them.
I conceived the idea of tapering strips during my many sleepless nights. When they finally came on the market, I succeeded in getting off sleeping pills, after numerous failed attempts.
