    Best explanation of the process I've seen! Thanks for sharing! As a designer, I actually recommend that my clients find a printer before I start designing. In my experience, different printers like their print files formatted in different ways, so it's nice to start working with their formatting in mind. The choice in paper weight and book binding can also affect the file formatting so I also recommend nailing that down before working with a designer. Local printers are some of the kindest people and love talking about what they do, so don't be afraid to reach out and meet with them! They are also a great resource to walk you through the different paper weights and finishes available and how they affect cost. When it comes to printing, the physical experience is SO important so I definitely recommend splurging for the nice stuff.

      Thank you so much!! And yes that makes a lot of sense! I had to go back and fourth with my graphic designer because the format was wrong. So that's a very good advice :)

      Haha amazing! I was just going to chime in with my perspective as a designer. Fun to see this comment first. Totally agree with that! A good local printer is a make or break step of the process in my opinion. I have a huge appreciation for the work they do to get a quality product in hands with the best possible colours given the files. And yeah, they’ll often go out of their way to make sure you’re on the same page. I once had an amazing experience sitting down with some of the technical staff and had them calibrate my display to their press sheets so when I was doing all that colour work on my side, I knew the colours I was seeing were going to show up on the proofs and in the book. Ah, love books! Would love to design another.

    I used to use the built in printing modules in lightroom and aperture to make photobooks for my family. Sometimes I went to Kinko’s, sometimes I used the built in printing service (apple). My family really appreciated the books. It was a lot of work! This is a more professional approach, and your results reflected that. You are a wonderful photographer and I am sure the owners of the zines are really enjoying them. Thank you for sharing the process. One question tho: What was the purpose of the pinterest step? Good job. Thanks for the video, it’s very inspiring. Just as a piece of advice, it’s just my opinion but I think working a little bit more on the copy/text/story will bring a lot more value and life to your work. For instance, I believe « 30 days in a destination »sounds like the most impersonal thing yo me. I would rather look at a magazine with words that describe or suggest a little more from your feelings and interpretation of the world.
    Not hating, just saying. I appreciate your work, keep going !

    • @KamVachon
      @KamVachon  Před rokem +1

      Thank you Eric! I agree with what you said, but the reason I decided to name it 30 days in Mexico was because the photos in this zine are my first look into Mexico, it's nothing deep or incredibly personal and therefore I wanted the title to be true to that. Another ''deeper'' title could of suggested a second meaning to the story, when in reality it's all super simple. :)
