The aria occurs in Act 3, on Lucia and Arturo's wedding night, after she stabs him while they are alone in their bridal suite. The wedding party continues nearby, as Lucia retreats into madness, not fully aware of what she's done. She imagines what it would be like to marry her true love, Edgardo, and fondly remembers the time they spent together.

Absolutely electrifying... amazing. All of them. The orchestra - precise, beautiful sound, yet not invasive; the flutist's marvelous playing; a great sync - apparently they listened to each other. And then. Lucia - flawless, singing so lightly and effortlessly. All together, a wonderful confluence of artistry and musicianship in one spot in Prague. Thanks for putting this excerpt on CZcams. Matteo Desole was apparently also great that evening as Edgaro.... based on e very positive review on Opera Plus today. Bravissimi.

What a fantastic performance from Lucie! The atmosphere in the opera house was electric. Unfortunate the surtitle technology crashed but it allowed everyone to concentrate on the music. The other soloists were excellent, the chorus powerful and the orchestra polished. A wonderful evening, well worth travelling 750 miles from Wolverhampton, West Midlands, UK to hear this!
