  • Hoch Heidecksburg!
    Marsch (The Watch Tower)
The concert march at Hoch Heidecksburg was composed in 1912 by the Thuringian military musician Rudolf Herzer . The march was named after Heidecksburg Castle in Rudolstadt , where Herzer's association, the 7th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 96 , was stationed.
Due to the more symphonic character of the march, especially in the trio the baritone motif - later repeated tutti - which is characterized by its folk festival sound, it can be assigned to the category of concert marches, which are less suitable for military purposes ( marches past ) than for concert performances in front of an audience .
In a slightly simplified form with an applied text, Hoch Heidecksburg is the theme music of the folk music festivals that have been broadcast on ARD since 1994 .
The word "high" is a tribute / Lebehoch, cf. wikt: Up . In the French-speaking area, the march is called “Au bord du Rhin” (On the banks of the Rhine). As "The Watchtower" it is the regimental march of the Royal Military Police .
In 1913, Herzer transferred the rights to "Hoch Heidecksburg" to a Berlin publisher.
