Well, it is a setting where martial artists capable of slicing people up with their bare hands or destroying a body just by aiming their palm at it rule the land, not to mention some of the minor styles ranging from slicing people into chunks with a whip to absorbing blunt weapons with their fat. Just another day in the post-apocalyptic wasteland.

I don't think so. The overall memetic hilariousness is the thing that made TV series so memorable and loved despite all the glaring flaws - remade the series as serious and straightforward as the original manga won't do any good.
