- This was a fun one! I think we all really wanted to see this 2008 Norco A-line being ridden on A-line, and now we are making it a reality! I even found a bigger frame for this bike so it is riding even better! We also had to put more oil in the monster T to make it a bit stiffer. So it is working better than ever!

Hey guys, I've got a Specialised Big Hit 1 & 3 in the garage, the 1 has a 24" rear wheel with a 26" up front, the 3 is 26" both ends. I still love my 3 though, great to see someone else who has older bikes and love's them too.

Bikes still shredding I just bought my first legit bike. 08 reign x1 and was worried it would be to outdated but I’m figuring out that it just takes more to get used to steeper head angle shorter reach just have to adapt to those Chnages tho
My 01 A-line was 55 LBS, this vid brought back great memories of when clown shoes first opened and the drop was drop only! Keep up the sick content!

"a bike like this" - you mean a bike designed specifically for riding in bike parks just like this? It's a 2008 not a 1908. Get a grip. This was the standard Whistler bike 12 years ago, and the bike park has not really changed much in that time.
If it was cold during the rebuild, the steel headset race would fall into the alloy frame easily, steel shrinks more than alloy, its an old engineers trick.

your talking freezing metal pieces usually done with a chemical spray that goes waaayyyyy freezing. this was mildy cold at most, filmed while whistler was still open. You have to get metal stupid cold to shrink like that, otherwise engines wouldn't be useable.
I think you've got it wrong, take whatever grade of aluminum and steel that you happen working with, the aluminum alloy will have a greater coefficient of thermal expansion, which means the dimension of the aluminum alloy changes more for some change in temperature. In this case it's cold outside so the aluminum headset will contract more than the steel headset bearing making a tighter fit. It would be a looser fit at warmer temperatures.

That extra oil causes hydrolocking so the oil prevents the fork bottoming out, its like a hard wall that could blow the seals so i'd suggest finding a harder spring instead of more oil
I love the norco Aline videos I have a 2011 norco range and this bike reminds me of it quite a bit

Not as old but I’ve got a 2011 Santa Cruz bullit v2 that’s an absolute gem of a free ride bike it’s got the steeper head angle shorter reach and a massive bb height. Used to own a 2008 se filth flyer dirt jumper/hardcore hard tail that thing was a machine handled massive jumps and steep tech like a dream for a hard tail. Both bikes running 26” wheels and I won’t let myself go any bigger 26 ain’t dead!

For new fork seals you might want to see if the green SKF Kit40M seals will work. They are pricy and may or may not be compatible but if the are, it's magic. Specs say they should fit. Much better than any other standard black seals for all Marzocchi forks. Eliminates just about all the stiction. Also make sure to fully pack the void between the oil and dust seals with slickoleum. For oil a 60/40 blend of motorex racing oil 7.5w/5w. Just rebuild a shiver with green SKF seals and it's insane the difference in friction. Butter smooth is an understatement.

Rad! Boostmaster - I think it would be great for you to throw together a 'Decades of DH Bike' summary. Between the A-Line, the Wilson, the Maiden, and the host of other DH bikes you've owned and ridden.... Suspension changes, geometry changes, weight changes... how did all of those things change over the years? Did they have a big impact on the actual riding quality of the bike on the trails? Does it even matter? Would be great to get some feedback from somebody who not only owns bikes from such a long timespan but has also had the chance to ride their own and others.

There were LOADS of these around in 2010 when I first went to Whistler and seen them around many time since. Sure its a little different to a very modern bike, but it's not like it's a Penny Farthing. My first bike in Whis was a 2008 IH Yakuza Kumicho, and it rode like a dream. I still have an 08 Brodie Damien in the shed too.

Something to note on this frame... The ugly head tube gusset plates on each side. Originally these frames had a triangular hole behind the head tube going through/across the frame. The frames were recalled due to cracking and they started welding on the uglier but stronger reinforcement. If you check out Norco's online bike archive, you can see the much prettier but flawed original design. Both the DH and shore models had this design at launch.
This was my dream bike back around 2007, I believe I waited for it to launch for 2008. I ended up settling for a Shore 2 of the same year that I upgraded to boxer worldcup forks.
That thing sounds amazing for its age, it rides so quiet. Nice tuning job.

Epic video, but wouldn't it be better to use a heavier oil to stiffen up the fork? Correct me if I'm wrong but would adding more oil just cause it to hydro lock earlier, therefore limiting the travel of the fork?
Unless it was underfilled previously which I guess would mean the added oil will just make the fork work as intended.
Heavier oil yes, but also with those old marzocchis you could tune progressivness with the amount of oil (too much would hydrolock it but there is a range within wich you can experiment). Never worked with monsters so im not 100% but with other marzzes of similar vintage, it was quite a cool feature. I think of it somewhat like tokens in todays air forks but with oil instead of plastic tokens
@@oddball1357 for him to get oil on the seals its because its overfilled, its pushing the oil there and loosing travell due to it too. it bottoms out hydroloking. New springs are around but hard to find... i had this issue with my Gen1 Monster and ended up using a couple of headset spacers as preload spacers and like that could get it a bit stiffer. I have the progressive (green) springs too witch didn help by being too soft on early travel.
i had 888s on my 2009 glory 0 and they were amazing. i love riding them softer than usual as my local trail was very rough and the forks ate all the bumps up like that werent there.

the tolerance for the headset cups is the cup being 1.5-2.5 mm bigger than the head tube

get the shock on the boostmonster rebuilt tell them to change the shim stack cuz you want it to be stiffer
For your boostmonster you should switch the rear shock to a fox dhx 3.0 coil because it’s air tank adds a lot more compression than the manitou revox, the revox on my old DH bike was way too soft even with a 500lbs coil when on the fox I can use 350lbs and it still feels more comfortable and supportive compared to the revox
that's an older shock right? It might be hard to find though
@@JordanBoostmaster yes it is but they’re all over Facebook marketplace at the moment so are the other dhx models like the 4.0 and 5.0, but the 3.0 is the best bet for the a-line because that’s what I’m using currently on my one

I haven't been to Whistler in over a decade but I know that small berm at the end of A-Line has likely had that hole for that long too causing so many people to screw up there. Went there with a tour group so only saw the bottom of the hill.

Sick bike that can shred just as good as the modern bikes like you said being a shorter bike it's better on tight tech weight isn't so much of an issue till you wana Jump the bike

Interesting how the heavy weight is while jumping. I've recently sent some bigger jumps on my ebike (trek rail) and found it holds stability in the air well.
People trip on things they dont even need to worry about. Just ride :) im a dh designer btw.

mate too much oil on it... it doesnt have room for the uper legs and you loose travell and at the same time thats why you got some oil on the seals. you lost travell and it is botoming out on the excessive oil. instead of more oil you need it a couple of preload spacers on the top by the plastic ones it has. I sorted my monster like that because getting stronger springs is almost impossible. but great fun on A line no? Bike looks greta mate!
The front slides out because you don't have the weight balanced. You have to add weight to the rear.
I also have an M large frame I had recalled from the United Cycle bike shop. With all parts attached to mine I have a 2008 Norco A line too but mine is red with black s type it's a show model bike from when it was built & his is the more expensive version I know buy 1,000 dollars more but I had to do work on mine does anyone know what tube's are good for a aline I have 26 X 2.35 but the last tube's that were better for me in the 2.35 were the heavy duty 26 x 2.40's I have a fox 3.0 in the back used to come with a 250 x 2.25 or a 300 x 3 50 so I doubled the weight in pounds on the spring I'm running a back spring coil at 600 x 3.25😂 I run v sixty pedals amx loaded bars most custom mixed with stock parts new bottom bracket & chain cassette with new grips fork replacement & some spokes came loose or fell out i also needed to replace my chain still love code 5 brakes but you should check it yo and tighten them good too also I think I got to cut my bottom bracket shorter too it slides but it's fully tight but fast and Flys down hills too I'm in Edmonton Alberta Canada i even had a bontager wire replacement for gears bontager tires also changed seat from same company just camo both ripped a bit lmao grips almost need new 1s i got race face i got lights on my bike with a bell and speaker too I want to zip tie a mud flap on mine's from fox like his hopefully soon I will when i take my bike to get new heavy duty tube's...

the purple on that tire refers to the 'ultra soft' compound
