  • In this video, we take a deep dive into my new ride, a 1992 Toyota Land Cruiser! I recently decided to part ways with my beloved FJ Cruiser, but I couldn't resist the charm and capability of this classic off-roader. I snagged it for a fantastic deal and although it's in decent condition, it's going to need some tender love and care to get it to its full potential. Join me as I give you a tour of the exterior and interior, talk about its history and share my plans for getting it back into top shape. If you're a fan of classic Toyota 4x4s, you won't want to miss this one!

    Good luck with the 80. I've had my 97 for 20 years now. It's the only vehicle i kept over those years. With the AC, i ran dye in the freon and didn't find any leaks under the hood. It was the evaporator core under the glove box that corroded out. Just FYI. Lots of guys on Mud have the same issue

      Ooo that's a good tip. Would that result in mystery wet spots on the passenger side floorboard carpet?

    • @avpr1c
      @avpr1c Před 8 měsíci

      @@TheKoreanMarksman Funny enough i have that same passenger side floorboard wet spot. I recently cleaned the sunroof and door drains, they were def clogged. Keep an eye on your rubber door seals. My rear driver side seal had a small tear, that i didn't see in time, and it rusted the door.

    • @TheKoreanMarksman
      @TheKoreanMarksman  Před 8 měsíci

      @@avpr1c It only seems to do it when I run AC cuz I even sealed my sunroof off when cleaning the drains didn't work and the doors were fine..

    Heck yeah! I picked up my black 97 lx450 acouple years ago in mint condition for a thousand bucks. Found it fresh at a pick and pull yard and nothing was wrong or taken off of, just came in from Aspen as an abandoned vehicle. The yard got me a clean title, I got a key made and it started right up and have been driving it ever since. Not bad for a 1k!

    Its all about enjoying the experience, I have a 1997 Landcrusier Prado, we live down a rough gravel road, we feel safe and comfortable driving down that road. Enjoy the journey.

    I picked up a ‘94 triple lock with sunburn/225k for $1800 a few years back but had to sell it because of a move. Now have a ‘96 in much better condition for about what you paid. Best tractor on the farm, you won’t regret it.

      Sweet! I got lucky and came across a mint 97 lx450 at a pick and pull yard acouple years ago. They wanted $700 but felt bad so gave them 1k lol, clean title and I made a key and have been driving it ever since!

    HDJ81 owner here, prices are all over the place due to….well….1) mileage, 2) rust, 3) modifications that YOU didn’t do. I really like looking around (to buy at some point) to see what 80 series (and 100s) are out there. If major mods have been done……have the mods been done properly??? You will pay big $$$$ in the long run if not. Thank you for posting. I am glad you are a gun guy and “marksman”.

    Bought my 80 series in 92. 450000on clock. Still driving it. Used it today. My favourite vehicle. Mechanics dream. Less than thirty minutes for a timing belt. Cheer and enjoy the drive.

    My dream car is a diesel 100 series land cruiser.
    Either 100 or 105 will OK for me to own. I know people in the comments are probably going to tell me to just go for the 105 since it also has a solid front axle. The thing is I have never driven a solid front axle vehicle before so I'm not used to it.
    Plus I don't plan on doing serious off roading so the front independent will probably be more than enough for what I need.

    The 80 series are awesome. I bought a triple locked 93 with 330,000 miles for $3500 back in 2021. I painted white, took off roof rack and added 33 inch tires. Everything else still stock. I use on the beach for surf fishing.. I did add throttle cable last year and have done some minor maintenance but no major issues after 4000 miles. Might sell it next year after selling house at beach.

    I have a stock 91, 187,000 mile 80. Bought it 4 years ago for $6000. Texas car, garage kept, paint shines like new, perfect interior. Just has a front engine oil seal leak. I will be replacing the entire AC system with new components to R134a. The price on these cars will keep going up. The 4.0L 3fe engine is a solid engine, cast iron block and head with timing gears, so as reliable as you can get. Congratulations

    They are easy to work on yourself, just time consuming. Everything has been figured out in the forums. Shops don't know how to work on them anymore, have to hit up LC specialist shops. I would replace all the hoses- all of them- vac hoses too. new rad, and fix all the leaks. all the fluids... have fun they are great rigs!

      Fantastic advice man. Previous owner replaced all hoses. Mechanic fixed the Freon leak and I'm gonna embark on a front knuckle rebuild and replace the birfs... a little nervous but so stoked about the gem I was able to find

    • @TheKoreanMarksman
      @TheKoreanMarksman  Před rokem +2

      I’ve heard people had rubbing issues and besides, I really didn’t want to regear and take the gas mileage hit. I think 33s are perfect for me honestly. But I have yet to pressure test them on MN’s snowed out forest roads haha

    • @danacfalle2016
      @danacfalle2016 Před rokem

      Hi there, I have a 1995 FZJ80. You can fit 35’s at stock height. Specifically, I have 35”x10”r17” Kenda Klever RTs on SCS Custom F5s with -38mm offset. That tyre wheel combo sets the outside of the tyre about 2” outside if the fender flares and looks great.
      I had it regeared from stock 4.11 to Nitro Gear 4.88s. Stock gearing I got middle 12s MPG on 33s BFG KO2s (285/75r16). The regear plus 35s maintained 12.4MPG!!! I specifically selected this tire, because it only increased the tire weight by about 10 pounds each. The typical 12 1/2 inch wide 35 inch tire is about 67 pounds for the tire alone. I wanted to keep rotational mass down.
      During a recent trip to Area2 Steel Challenge match, 250 miles all freeway, I got 15.4 MPG average both ways. It is the 1FZ-FE 4.5liter inline 6 engine tho.
      However, I do plan on lifting 3-3.5” using Dobinsons MRR Long Travel
      Kit. Not for tyre clearance, but for ground clearance & the cool look!
      Great choice- good luck and enjoy your build!
