- See how JURASSIC PARK: THE RIDE could have originally been...
The Jurassic Park River Adventure was a massively successful attraction when it opened in 1996 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Despite its high praise from delighted guests, the experience was meant to be even more enthralling. The ride was originally designed to fit into a large area at Universal Orlando before it was decided to open in Hollywood first. Unfortunately, Hollywood's limited space forced a downsize on the attraction, and it remained largely the same once it finally did open in Orlando and Japan as well. Because of this, many outstanding ideas were scrapped.
This video finally brings to life many of these early ideas, including: giant dragonflies, triceratops, pteranodons, a dead spinosaurus, and MUCH more! Using only the original authentic storyboards and concept art from the making of JURASSIC PARK: THE RIDE!
Featuring vocal performances by Derrick Davis and original music by Caleb Burnett.

Jurassic Park the ride is so awesome. I remember riding it 18 years ago and it was so cool. Crichton deserves all the credit.
The Jurassic Park River Adventure is such an amazing theme park attraction. This is so awesome to see
Damn I’m sad we never got this version of the River Adventure or the Jeep ride.
Ikkr
Hopefully in the future.
In the near future
This looks like it would've been an awesome but long ride, I definitely get why they condensed it. Plus I think it would've been a pain for them if they actually had to have a cast member waiting for each raft to make it up to the top. Although I think it would've been awesome to see a Pteranodon on the ride.
Thoroughly impressed with your storytelling. The use of the music, sound effects and ride sounds really made me feel like I was experiencing the ride. Great work!
When I first heard about the ride as a kid, I could not help but smile that they had Stegosaurus in it. It remains one of my bigger disappointments the dinosaur did not show up in the first movie.
This is just truly amazing! And I’m brainstorming words on if I were to introduce like this….
“Could you image Jurassic Park: the ride that would’ve looked totally different back then? Well, believe it or not, it almost went into fruition. From giant dragonflies to velociraptors devouring a rescuer to a giant T-Rex’s head emerging from the waterfalls, here is a video-reel of scrapped storyboard ideas about how the once popular ride at Universal Studios Hollywood in California that almost dived into a different light.”
This is so amazing! Jurassic Park The Ride could be more awesome than real one, although the real one was an amazing too. Also, Caleb's score is so wonderful! Love it so much!. I didn't know there was a giant dragon flies
As a kid that would scared me crazy good, as an adult I would’ve LOVED it and brought my kid on it xD
This original version is actually scarier than the newer version.
Reminds me of Zoo Tycoon: Dinosaur Digs... But in real life! Why couldn't this have become reality?
Because it probably would of been expensive and probably a pain to keep it up and running not to mention the size of the ride would of been too big for the park because while Universal Studios Hollywood itself is decently big but it is still small compared to Universal’s and other parks like Orlando not to mention Disneyland, and DisneyWorld so… although I do agree that this would of been EPIC! If this version was made
6:56 shouldn’t that be part of a Halloween events? With this live actor
Best ride ever
This is fascinating! This concept was probably attached to a storyboard of the movie. And for Jesus! The soundtrack at the beginning is simply captivating, enigmatic, sweet drums with a simple Jurassic Park theme in its welcome. Wow, a vision of the park that no Jurassic World will ever bring us and that I will always long for. Your settings are always the best, music, diction etc... As a paleontologist, I am proud of your work. These documentaries, along with John Hammond's Jurassic Times, surprise me that I have never seen them before.
Thank you so much, that means a lot! You may like my upcoming novel then. Although it won't be too scientifically accurate. ;) derrickdavismedia.com/invertiverse/
i would love for jurrasic park river ride to get an update stuff like better anamatronics
Universal studios did not spare no expense because the orginial version was not built due to budget reasons
This when they were planning on putting the ride first in Orlando where MIB is now.
Amazing! I miss the old The Ride in Universal Parks. I dont know about the Aviary in the original project.
Man I think this would work great in vr.
I would imagine this ride would be pretty doable nowadays. Instead of it being available 24/7, do what Disney does with some rides and have select groups reserve spots throughout the day. Maybe the ride operates from 8-10, then 1-3, etc. That way the workers throughout each shift will focus on quality in short bursts instead of operating the ride all day.
Holy FUCK!!! This would've been the greatest ride in history!!!
This is the original ride that I wanted to ride at universal
That would of been so cool to ride. Sadly we didn't get it. I'm thinking we didn't get et it because of how big it would of been, the price to build it and maybe tech linitations
Bad pacing too, a lot of this was repetitive lmao. Tho would have loved the aviary scene
@@andynava5144 I actually wouldn’t of minded the repetitive part’s of it because it looks cool as hell
RW:wow the old classic idea would have been alot scarier than the one we have today😬
A *big* part of me would like to see you give the long-lost "Jeep Safari" ride (originally planned for Islands of Adventure) this kind of treatment.
Note: I've seen the concept art for the ride on your site before. Pertaining to the Aviary in particular, one piece of concept art mentions the pterosaurs as being Cearadactylus (the pterosaur from the original Crichton novel), while another piece labels the Aviary as the 'Pteranodon Aviary.' So it seems like in the early planning stages of the ride, Gary Goddard and company were truing to figure out which pterosaur species to feature in the Aviary scene (before that was ultimately scrapped).
Unfortunately there hasn't been quite enough to really be able to do one for the jeep. :/ Or some of the other unrealized versions of attractions. We just got REAL lucky with this one.
@@JurassicTime Aw, too bad. But, it's cool. Until more information about these unrealized attractions comes to light, one can only speculate.
Ikr I always thought that was a really cool idea
Ethan Melendez Same here. 😊
Hi😀
What happened to the guy that was trying to help the people in the boat?
EATEN!... or maybe just hid and waited for the next boat to come up the ramp. ;)
Good Stuff! Thanks - Jay
*WOW!* What a VERY nice Thanksgiving surprise! :)
BTW, how did the rest of the 'Hadrosaur Ravine" narration go? Darn irate Parasaurolophus cut it off (LOL!).
"Next up on our tour is Hadrosaur Ravine. Unlike the vicious carnivores in the compound to our left, here at Hadrosaur Ravine you'll find the charming, duck-billed, Parasarolophus. These enormous beasts, like prehistoric cattle, feed quietly on river plants and trees..."
@@JurassicTime Ah! Thank you! And Happy '6-foot Turkey' Day! :D
I'm surprised you can figure out the order of how the concept art goes scene by scene for the ride.
1:39 Were passengers actually required to wear life vests before boarding the raft?
No, not at all. Some people chose to wear ponchos to protect themselves from water, but that's it.
I wish they had kept the aviary.
This ride is in need of serious updates.
7:20 We don’t want these people to slide backward into are technical area now do-
*AHHHHHHHHHH AHH OH AH OOF OH AHHHH AHHHH*
Lmao, bruh my guess is they couldn't afford to build all that and would have to build a separate park
I always wanted to go to that ride...now I will never ever experience it
I'm sorry to hear that. :( If you're able to, the one in Orlando is very similar to how the Hollywood ride once was, and in some ways is even better! Who knows how much longer it will remain in that state, so I would try to go there as soon as possible if you really want to go on it.
@@JurassicTime I want to...but I live in another country, ever since I was little I always wanted to go on the Jurassic park ride. I always used to see the big T. rex coming out of the waterfall or something and I thought it was so cool!
How did you got this
Is that suppose to be a Spinosaurus at 8:52? 🤔🤔
YES it is! Crazy that it was part of the ride way, way before Jurassic Park 3 was even an idea!
@@JurassicTime That IS something! Now that particular piece of concept art suggests the Spino met its fate at the jaws of a much larger theropod...most likely the T-Rex. Ironic given what happened to T-Rex in "JP3."
BTW, from the 7:50 to the 8:14 mark, what are the dinosaurs in that piece of art supposed to be? They look like ornithomimids to me (like Gallimimus or Struthiomimus).
WHY DOESN'T THE SPINOSAURUS HAVE A CROCODILIAN-LIKE SNOUT!?!
@@nancyfaulkner5908 That piece of concept art was drawn up at a time where there wasn't much scientific evidence to go off of as far as Spinosaurus' look. Back in the 90s, it was thought to have an Allosaurus-like head until later fossil discoveries revealed it had a long-snouted head (hence why "JP3's" Spinosaurus is portrayed with a crocodile-esque skull).
it looks more like a giant Diemetrodon which is not a dinosaur but a prehistoric reptile from the late Cretaceous Period.
Aviary scene would make no senses as it’s impossible to have a pteranodon maybe life size life like realistic flying prop with the illusion that it is floating while flapping it’s wings
the sketches JURASSIC PARK: THE RIDE
KUNG FU PANDA 58 MEET THE ROBINSONS CHINESE DINOSAUR JURASSIC PARK
KUNG FU JOSH KUNG FU PANDA KUNG FU TIGRESS KUNG FU FU MONKEYS FU FU KUNG FU MANTIS KUNG FU VIPER JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH
Ngl, the dinosaurs in these storyboards are kinda lumpy and ugly, especially the T. rex.
Tho overall, this ride slaps
I saw a real guy got attacked by a raptor
I think they were cheap they didnt want to make a bigger ride that would last. I wish they brought the bejing ride to Hollywood and kept the original to honor both
