    Happy New Year everyone! We're catching up on posting some older videos from last year until our first press trip of the year on Jan 17th! The Kicks has the potential to be a really fun SUV but until Nissan adds AWD, a turbo engine, or a hybrid option, we find its competitors to be far more appealing.

    • @philsalley3278
      @philsalley3278 Před 2 lety +8

      Apparently it is already very appealing based on sales and for most people front wheel drive with snow tires does a good job of handling the snow without AWD. Likewise, for the vast majority of buyers, the performance is fine, especially around town. Of course a 250+ HP AWD model would be nice except it would probably cost $35k+ plus and not sell. That's one of the problems with reviewers. They only see things from their perspective which is almost universally about acceleration and handling.

    Some folks don't need to go 0-60 in 3 seconds . Nor do they need to exceed the speed limit by 30+ mph . They are more interested in point A to point B as cheap as possible . Also these reviewers are all just stating their opinion . Nothing more .

      merging on the highway shouldn't be scary or sketchy, having more power dose not mean speeding all the time, but it dose make a difference in day to day driving. More power means more confident merging, passing, moving up from a red light...
      It's literally safer for you and everyone around you for your car to not be a slow when your trying to make a turn or pull out onto the road from a parking lot where most accidents tend to happen... Not everyone needs a 500 BHP sports car but being scary slow in comparison to almost every other car on the road can be a hazard itself... You not needing to take more then 10 seconds to make a turn or pull out of lot could be the difference in causing an accident that didnt need to happen.
      The Hyundai Elentra Hybrid in Blue trim is about as expensive as this, has most of the same options, has WAY more power, better ride and gets over 55 MPG on gas consumption... This things just unacceptably slow for how much gas it drinks by today's standards.

    I feel like the kicks gets much unneeded hate just because it’s popular to hate on. People buying this won’t care about speed. It’s affordable and it comes with good tech. Objectively it’s slow but comes with good tech

    • @crbb3099
      @crbb3099 Před 2 lety +1

      The point is that there’s more to a car than just good tech. I’d take a more sophisticated engine and better build quality over a dumb speaker in my headrest any day. It just represents everything wrong with modern cars. All about the appeal and “standard features” but with no actual substance and quality.
      Nissan took away the Juke and replaced it with this in just the North American market. The Kicks was a cheap econobox meant for developing nations (because of the higher ride height) and they decided we deserved it too. It’s just BS.

    The reference point of this review of this is terrible. It's almost like he thinks it should be a $50k SUV and criticizes it for not being that. All the things he wants would push the price up to close to $40k. I bought one for a friend and she loves it. Acceleration is not a problem on/off the freeway. Most reviewers find the seats very comfortable. My C8s seats are firm and very comfortable. Terrible, negative review.

    Yes, we all know the 🆒 factor is not going fast but really getting all the tech and safety features (360 camera, full LED front + fogs on the SR trim, blind spot monitoring, heated front seats) at such a low price. Also, the 1.6L Versa engine I heard is very reliable. Lastly, since it is such a small engine, it sips gas so no automatic engine shut off at stop signals like some modern new cars (very annoying and unappreciated as a driver and rider).

With e-POWER being a series hybrid, it's different enough to make it stand out from the Toyotas. I'd like to at least have that option, while EVs are still pretty expensive.

    I think you are a little too harsh and I also think you fail to see the the appeal to many people. You clearly are a performance enthusiast and you are letting that cloud your judgement a little too much. Not everyone wants a turbo and all-wheel drive - to me the lower MPG rating and increased mechanical complexity and maintenance (Turbos and AWD components are damn expensive to repair/replace). You shouldn't keep pointing out that it's so awful and then say "but for the price point..". How about making your judgements based on the target market, which is clearly not the same market as you. I also don't mind that there is no power liftgate. Compare it against others in the segment, not a higher segment. This is better equipped and has more features than either a Hyundai Venue, a Honda HR-V or a Corolla Cross. So please get your enthusiast mindset out of the way and judge these cars on how the target buyer's expectations. I happen to find this car to be quiet, smooth, comfortable and economical. And to have many higher end features just makes it that much better. Frankly I think we need to stop making cars with 500+ HP ratings.

    This video missed the purpose of the Kicks: The Kicks is a perfect Grandma car.
    Its one of the cheapest cars you can buy, so Grandma can buy more hair nets and puppy chow with the savings. The trunk is surprisingly large too, so she can fit a month's worth of Depends in one trip. It's stuffed with lots of safety features like Lane keep assist and emergency breaking. The viability is amazing, and the ergonomics are really comfortable for the driver; as getting in and out is a perfect height for Grandma's bum knee, with comfortable seats. Grandma DGAF about being 1 second slower off the line. When it snows, Grandma stays home anyways; she doesn't need AWD which is really a performance feature and not a safety feature.

      The cube and first-generation Versa hatchbacks had the same horsepower as this Kicks, but from a larger engine (1.8-liter) that made just a little more torque. Still slow, still popular. And there's a lot of them still plying the roads 10 years or more since they were new. I think some reviewers (and I used to be one) get too used to driving sports cars that carry price tags that are bigger than a lot of folks' mortgages. The average transaction price on a new car in America nowadays is close to $40k, and you can still buy a Kicks for a little over half that even in our current inflationary economy. With those specs, your average Joe or Jane working a $30k/year job doesn't care if it takes 11 seconds to get to 60 mph. They care that it's gonna get them to work and back with a payment small enough that they can afford it while paying for groceries and rent.

    Nissan made a perfect small entry level vehicle that's modern and elusive enuff to stake a second glance. Nailed it on the features and equipment. AWD MATTERS ABOVE 150HP!!!! GREAT JOB NISSAN AND I SEE MORE OF THESE ON THE ROAD NOW HERE IN NYC...IN SR TRIM...WITH ITS PREMIUM PRETTY BIGG FACE FACE LIFTED BY DR.HR Rubenhandswoth by way of 2nd Gen...it's looks sharp and fun in tri-state kinda way....NISSAN KNOWS WHAT THERE DOING TRUST ME 👌🏽😊❤️

    Honestly with the tiny amount of power the CVT will probably last a lot longer.

      Underappreciated comment. My cube has 122 horsepower just like the Kicks, except it comes from a bigger 1.8-liter engine that makes a little more torque than the 1.6 in the Kicks. After 12 years and 180,000 miles, that cube has been reliable every day. I still see a lot of first-generation Versa hatchbacks that had this powertrain as well.
      What I'd really like to see is the e-POWER Kicks that they sell overseas. That is a series hybrid and basically replaces the CVT with an electric motor hybrid unit kind of like a Prius. The reliability should be even better than a low-power engine mated to a CVT, not to mention the fuel economy benefits.

    I honestly prefer the 2022 Hyundai Venue

    If they gave this the 1.6T and a panoramic sunroof it’d be decent

    122 HP. It's lower than the freaking Sentra and it's a bigger car. LOL.

      This car should've had a 1.8L or a 2.0L. The acceleration and MPG would've been much better. The 1.6L is struggling to move that car.

    Under power not good for freeway interior materials are so chip. Not for family use. Back seat are for kids only. I have 2022 sr kicks i hate it. I rather buy the nissan Rogue sports.

    The blue and the black look great on this little crappy car. Nevertheless if you want a tiny SUV, the Hyundai Kona would be the wise choice.
