The workshop participants and we have build more than 20 Biomeiler.
Characoal can be integrated in to the green cut to obtain terra preta when finally composted.

Why not put and old metal radiator in the middle instead of plastic pipes? Id image it would be easier to assemble and disassemble the pile.

how does water circulate through the pipes? natural convection or using a pump

these are great videos but never show how they are heating.

The bacteria and fungi that eat the wood and grassclippings and by doing this they produce heat. A typical garden compost (if done right) will heat up to 65celsius for a few days. They use way more woody materials in the biomeiler so the breakdown takes longer. So it will produce quite a lot of heat for a long time. And with the tubes you can siphone some of that energy. I hope that was helpful

I saw something like this many years ago in Mother Earth News. It was in France. I think these continue to produce heat for 2 or 3 years. I suspect that they also produce carbon dioxide and methane. You should add a source of nitrogen, like manure, to make it work better.

Thank you Daniel, it is right it is based on the methodology of Jean Pain. Yes we are working with manure and slurry with a good result. The methan gas production is a totally independent process, using it's own tank, it is only using the heat from the compost to keep the methan process running.
The running time of compost heat is about 12 to 16 month.
