- This video is about what once existed on a block of Asylum Street in Hartford, CT where the City Place office towers were built in the 1980s. This included the house where J. P. Morgan was born, the sites of many historic Hartford businesses (including music stores, Turkish baths, bakeries and clothing stores), and a controversial mural that sparked public debate in the 1970s.
Check out my video about what once stood on the Pearl Street side of City Place: • The Hartford, Plimpton...
Also check out my video about the Allyn House Hotel, which stood across the street: • The Allyn House Hotel,...

Thank you!
So cool to see Radio Shack on a Asylum, I was a toddler/kid with that along with Isle of Safety at Trumbull and Asylum
I use to live at 289 Asylum I’m dying to get some history on that building it was my first place I lived fresh outta my mother’s house it only had one bathroom per floor and people rented the rooms for about 100 dollars a week I think it was called the Avon hotel years back
All I know is that it was built c. 1875 but I'd like to learn more.
What’s up Dan, hope all is well. Anything new?
I've been busy with some other stuff, but I do have some things that will be appearing here soon. Thanks for asking and stay Tuned!
Thanks!
Thanks!
