Kayaking Beach style

The first few times I tried kayaking at the beach with my sit on kayak the waves were just too high. I finally figured out to ride parallel to them, maybe taking them at a slight angle. But NEVER straight on. Otherwise the wave is going to wash over your bow. Another thing was to paddle between sandbars because it's on top of the sandbar that the waves break. And it's the breaking waves that can turn you over. And... Don't try to get on your kayak until you're past the first line of breakers. That means you gotta walk your boat out a ways. Past the breakers you can have a smoother ride and actually have a little fun. But, you always have to be alert as to what the surf is doing. Then I discovered paddling in with the waves!!! That was probably the most fun...having a wave pick you up and carry you in. I've never surfed, but, I can imagine it's similar.
