If there's one thing blizzard have, is polish in wow. Sure it has it's issues but imo there's a wow for everyone rn and they are all good for what they do. Retail for super hard raiding / pay to win / wotlk for similar to retail but with the nostalgia factor / classic wow for the classic experience/ and season of discovery for those who want classic+

Gonna take this opportunity to drop how much I'd love a "Worst MMO Ever" for the games "Wakfu" and "Dofus" (in no particular order). Not because I dislike the games, in fact because of the opposite: I absolutely love the games, they both pretty much shaped my childhood.
I'll fully admit though, that getting those games onto the series would not only point out clear well-deserved critique, but also likely be the best publicity the games have ever gotten for an audience outside of France because let's be real, Ankama really isn't trying that hard outside of the animated series.
The krosmos universe has got to be one of the biggest missed opportunities because it has every right to be globally popular but it just isn't. Nox in the cartoon is in my top 10 of animated antagonists and people barely even know of his existence.
It would probably suck tho since Dofus was such a patch based game it was different every patch and doing it nowadays would probably suck. Like yourself i also grew up with it 15 years ago

Ankama had something of a short spike in popularity when they released Wakfu to Steam, but because they were still taking time to patch things through, new players ended up leaving before anything felt ready for the wider audience. And yep, Nox 100% goes on that list for me, his special episode dedicated to his backstory felt so compelling.
@@zurcarak Dofus Classic does exist, but it's really difficult to actually get into those servers unfortunately. I wasn't actually aware of how much Dofus had changed gameplay-wise until about a year ago, it felt so different, I was surprised they bothered with "fixing" something that felt "fine" for so long, but now it's not even the same game I played 5 years ago let alone the game I played 15 years ago.
But even though Wakfu's gone through a lot of changes too, it still feels familiar at it's core, so I'd still definitely like to see Josh cover that one in hopes it gets some eyes its way. I've not actually seen any big CZcamsrs cover it, so it'd be interesting to say the least.

Considering the fact that the series focuses on the onboarding process with heavy emphasis on the new player experience, the videos could already be made. Its the end game content that changes, not the entry.
WoW regularly re-does the entry as well though. I tried playing ~7 times, and it was a different experience every single time. The game has no clue what the start should be like.
@ChrisMorray that's because blizzard doesn't seem to understand that the reason why WoW doesn't get any new players whatsoever isn't because the introduction is alienating, it's because the whole damn game is
@@arvidbergmanWoW doesn’t get any new players because its a 20 year old game, pretty much anyone that would have interest in playing it has already tried it and stayed, or moved on.
It’s kind of sad to say but if you are just now trying to get into WoW in the last 5 years; you missed the boat.
So if we see those videos, that's a call for help.
Not just one, but you could make a 'worst MMO' video based on every expansion and rate how well it was perceived and retained players at the time. You could have a whole series on it.
Or alternatively, 25 hour video of his review of each one, ending with a tier list of them
My hot take is that early Cataclysm, the first few weeks of it, absolutely ruled. Dungeons being difficult without having a timer to force a different style of play pressure was awesome.
@@matthewgagnon9426Cataclysm was a good expansion ruined by 2 things. 1. A few bad systems and 2. Players realizing WotLK had actually sucked and that bummer catching up to them.
WoTLK had three absolutely horrible raid tiers and2 great raid tiers, horrible PVE experience outside of raids, and horribly broken PvP (DKs and hpals go brrrr)
@@matthewgagnon9426 Cata was gold up untill Dragon Soul. And yet, in that patch, while we raid wasn't good, we got the 3 best dungeons of that expansion, some of which still rank top in my favorite dungeons list.
lol, you have said that before as well haha. I rather enjoy you focusing on other niche mmo's or truly bad ones to show why they can be bad, or when you accidently find one thats really good and deserves more attention.

CCCMMO 71 was when the series peaked. They were getting there with CCCMMO 70, but it still didn't quite get there. They jumped the shark with 72, and tried to clean up the mess with the next two. Still, I'm looking forward to 75. I hear they're trying a different monetization scheme. Xgincode 5 should show up, too.
The videos about obscure games are more interesting anyway. While I have no doubt that Josh could make very entertaining videos about the big MMO's, it's pretty easy to find discussions about their strengths and flaws because of how popular they are.
I think Josh doesn't want to make a video on these big MMOs because they already get so much coverage and people know so much about them, you don't really need Josh's verdict on them. And also because they are the biggest MMOs for a reason, they aren't even close to being "the worst MMO ever".
"Worst MMO ever" is just a title for the series of videos at this point. The games he includes in the videos are not necessarily games he personally thinks are bad.
For example he did the original guild wars and said that he enjoyed the game as an rpg just not as an mmo

sure, the idea of "worst mmo ever" IS to cover the worst mmo's he can find both as a 'hey dont play this' and as a legit review but
he's also incredibly open and frank about basically EVERYTHING so i fully believe him when he says "yeah i would make these if i need cash" because i can imagine him doing it

What Blizzard has done to World of Warcraft over the years, is exactly the same as what George Lucas and Steven Spielberg did to Indiana Jones in that one South park episode
After having playing wow on and off for many years, I've settled on the belief that most people who call wow trash are just looking for a reason to justify them quitting because they haven't found another mmo that scratches that itch (i.e. copium)
I played probably every other mmo before wow and after playing wow I realize how bad all the others are, especially scape which was my main mmo
even the wow private servers are better than most legit mmos

you know what'd be interesting? the show "Recovery of an MMO Junkie" has a game fruits de mare... it isn't a main focus of the show but an element of it, it'd be cool for you to look at the show glean what you can from what they do show of the show and give your opinions on that.

Thing is, the game is so objectively good compared to basically any other MMO that it'd break the name convention of the whole series. But yeah, as someone said, the new player experience is weird and definitely be critiqued.

I'm looking forward to the Elder Scrolls Online one. It's an MMO that I used to play a lot and had praised for getting many things right, but ultimately after coming back again and again found that it really was kinda boring and repetitive. I'm very interested in seeing Josh's take on that.
Thats normal even final fantasy 14 is like that. They did change a few stuff with the past chapter and the new one with the story which introduced a new god never seen before which was actually really appealing to a lot of players and also the new spell craft system that is coming.
@@jgon12 Part of the problem I think might be content bloat...that and the community's been kind of crap since 2020 (though I won't specify why or what started it).
It really doesn't help that a lot of modern MMO players play in such a way that encourages burnout, and then they wonder why their games are awful. Anytime I see someone asking in general chat "What's the right way to play the game?" I usually cut in past the people recommending powerleveling and go "Just play the game. Enjoy it as intended, because you'll just burn yourself out in a month if you play that way." I'm understandably probably the least popular person in general whenever I say things like that.
@@kerianhalcyon2769 I think people just burn out with chapters and content not being as good as summerset. Also your right with people trying to force other players do this and that like builds, how to play and powerleveling.
@@jgon12 Yeah the Vvardenfell through Summerset series of expansions were actually really good (as well as the mini expansions with Clockwork and Murkmire). I've still got to go back and actively finish the content that I've bought, I've got up to West Skyrim, though I don't think I'll go further than that.
Really I think the only reason why I play the game at all is because it actually functions and runs without game-breaking bugs...unlike a certain single player game they made that gets far, far too much attention and love for all the heartache it induces in people. *cough* Skyrim *cough*

I never got the appeal of wow. Played it when it first came out than tried again when second expansion released, just never could get into it. Everyone I knew played it and hyped it up. I just stuck with playing FFXI alone with strangers. Only thing I enjoyed was going to the other factions location and killing people. The quests, mobs, and dungeons were just so bland and boring.
Well… the game is a lot different now so you might actually like it lmao.
wow always had most responsive controls out of any mmo: the movement is precise, you character turns insantly and you can instantly start/stop running, even while mounted, abilities are all very responsive and reliable in use. its about as precise as an mmo can be, thing is...
content to make use of such tight overall mechanics is kind of limited. or rather, it was limited, no more than to some heroic raids and a few hard endgame dungeons at a time, but the world revamp and the addition of mythic+ dungeons really expanded on the idea. hey, you even said it yourself - "going to other factions location and killing people was fun", and i agree - pvp was about the only thing to reliably make use of all the precision wow provides, which is why i immensely enjoy wow pvp even after being at it for twenty-something years.

I'm actually very interested on Guild Wars 2 video as a former GW2 player. On the surface, GW2 is basically the perfect MMO. Most of the problems GW2 has are very deep and can't be seen without big experience in game and months of forum dwelling

Realistically, looking at WoW being in worst MMO ever is ridiculous. No game has been alive longer and thriving like it currently is. BFA-Shadowlands was terrible. But we just saw the largest post launch sub growth ever in the games history.
People can complain about it about why they think it sucks or maybe think it’s cool to hate on it but after looking into it… it’s simply not true. It’s a legendary game.
