    I love Ben, his game and attitude make me happy. He's just out here high energy and letting his love for the game shine through. Please stop talking about him being disrespectful, tennis isn't some sterile environment and all top players are a little toxic in their own ways. Yall sounding a lot like Tstiti with his "NBA" comment about Nick K. If every tennis player acted like Roger the game would be boring and alienate people. Everyone needs to remember that different players attract different people which helps our sport grow which ensures it survives for years to come.

      Side coaching has been legally allowed now since last year.
      The worst offender was Maria Sharapova’s father who continuously coached her points by points until he was globally banned from being in her box during play. That’s when she started loosing games and eventually was banned for several years for taking performance enhancing drugs “ by accident " like the Romanian Simona Halep. They were both found guilty after some long investigation.
      They both came to the media pretending to have ingested prohibited drugs on several occasions mistakenly. 🫢🫢🫢

    I think allowing coaching during matches is changing the very nature of tennis. Figuring out tactics and making adjustments by oneself during matches used to be one of the defining elements of tennis. Intelligence and emotions used to go hand in hand with technical abilities, now the brain part is becoming less of a factor. Personally I would prefer no coaching allowed during matches.

    For someone so ostensibly calm and tranquil, it is a bit surprising to have such a garish and lurid player like Shelton as a protégé and son. However, it might be expected when considering Bryan's (the older Shelton) two decades of coaching with College tennis, undoubtedly dealing with the Shelton-esque conduct on the court an innumerable amount of times, cultivating a sort of partial indifference and carelessness about obtrusive celebrations and the like (after having dealt with it so many times, it's really no wonder).
    Similarly, it's possible that Bryan was almost identical to Ben in his younger years (which could be be substantiated by watching his early pro career (which is accessible, I believe), something I have not done) and has cooled off and acquired wisdom and equanimity only in his later years. Not an uncommon occurrence for the rash and impetuous, the energetic and effervescent, the lively, unbridled, and immortal youth to lose their once seemingly-unending zest and energy, or perhaps just a partial chastening by old age.
    Maybe it's entertaining to watch the gaudy celebrations--of Shelton, mainly, but whoever--but I can't affirm either way. Amusing, shameful, slightly enjoyable but ignominious? No classification here, for people formulate their own opinions.
    Ah, merely another day in this life, the solitude and loneliness of the oarsman travelling down the infinite river, the tune of the forgotten man incessantly and nasally striking my ears. But soon, soon, soon is it not remembered, just like everything else. Ephemeral is this world.

    I just cant believe that people are getting excited about Shelton... the only good thing he has done is beat a low level Tiafoe to reach the US SF, advancing to the top 20, reaching the AO QF was okay but the draw was not that high level. From the AO until the US open he did not even win two matches in a row. The best win he had in that tine was against Eubanks at the Cincinnati masters before the US Open.
    He needs to bring what he brought to the US Open and keep doing that outside of slams, if he does not do that there is nothing to see with Shelton.

    • @harrodroach8606
      @harrodroach8606 Před 8 měsíci +2

      It's probably because of what he has done in such a short time. He's only been on the pro tour 14 months now. Most of the other young players turned pro around 14 to 16. He didn't even start playing tennis till then.His first trip out of the country was at the AO where he made the quarters. All the traveling and playing on different surfaces and places was new to him. Pro tennis has a learning curve. Where most start playing as kids he started as a teen and seems to be learning quickly.

      The semi-final of a home grand slam is cool, but it’s not enough. Let him win at least one ATP title. America just needs a new tennis hero and they are making a hero out of him. But he is still very far from Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi and other great American tennis players.
      Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe are higher in the rankings. But there has never been so much noise around them.

      I don't get why y'all think it was such a big deal for Novak to beat Ben a young man that had just been on tour a year. Novak has beaten lots of people even the greats at times. Go back and look at the scores at the USO and Ben didn't do any worse than anyone else. Even the final played against a previous grand slam winner was very close to Ben's score.
