    I went on to Sweetwater to check prices on this base and most were just under 2200 with a few demos at 1800. The problem was that every demo had finish cracks at the neck-to-body joint on the treble side! As beautiful as it is I'm gonna have to pass.

    Beautiful work, and excellent display of dialing in a tone. Different tones for different songs, and each one a winner! Sometimes a $200 bass sounds awesome, but can you then mold it to sound like 8 other basses, using only the bass' controls? My $4200 Alembic Elan can do that. But it's $4200. I think this Ultra Jazz sounds delicious. I want.

    If anything it took away the “Grit “ that the Ultra has IMO. the stock FMQ 3 band sounded better

    Hey Johnny, love the videos man; Listen, I have this one Jazz Bass (Warmoth build) that I've dumped so much money into that it's ridiculous🥴, I've come to the conclusion that the neck and body woods just don't match up well together and there's nothing in the world that's gonna make this Bass ever sound good 🤷🏾‍♂️; Have you ever come across a Bass like that? Thanks man, keep on posting, Peace!👊🏾

    Hi Johnny, thank you for the video. I have a question: What's the point on buying an expensive and a well known sound bass for only change its preamp later? I really don't get it. We all know that Seymour Duncan makes great pickups but wouldn't that be better applied if one made the upgrade on a cheaper bass?

    The question I have. Is this best 5 string that 22k can buy?

    • @edennard1
      @edennard1 Před rokem

      22k ? 🤔… I’m sure that was a type-o , however $ 2000 + is what this joint cost New and I’ve seem them used for about $1850 depending on its condition.. The tone for the Ultra I think is an acquired taste if your ears are use to more of a modern sounding Jazz Bass, however I think this model has more of a late 60’s vibe when it’s in the passive mode and it’s tonal pallet changes more to an early 70’s vibe when you engage the 3bnd system it has.. However I’ve replaced the stock system with the Glockenlang 2nd onboard preamp and it sounds a lot more open

    So how would you rate that pre amp compared to John East or Audere Preamp, I know the big difference is the price but noise and just quality?

  • @r3b0rn80
    @r3b0rn80 Před 2 lety +9

    We all know you can make any bass sound great.
    The fact that, to you (as an experienced bass player), those pickups only feel « ok » on an American made bass that costs around 2200€ in Europe really questions me and my vision on how Fender is acting nowadays.
    I mean…. Look at those new Modern Player Plus made in Mexico.
    They cost around 1000€ for no reason, just because Fender did bring some « improvements »that should have existed since the beginning.
    They just exist so Fender can ask more money for the American ones.
    To me, it all comes to how sturdy the instrument feels.
    Alder, maple and pao ferro are not so expensive woods, so what’s making this lineup so expensive ?!?
    I am pretty sure you can find instruments as good as this one for half the price, no (and don’t need pickups to be replaced) ?
    Buying shit from Fender should be illegal… it’s all made for snobs and ignorant fans.

    • @antonyhope8708
      @antonyhope8708 Před 2 lety +1

      You absolutely right, but I love and want fender because of its look, because of all that marketing “basically all of your favourite bassists play fender, so buy fender and be like them” thing. Am I victim of marketing? Yes, absolutely. But first, they were pioneers of selling good basses , second - they put A LOT of money in ads, ambassadors, etc., to make me feel this emotions when I touch Fender bass, soooo… IMO the price is fair. Sry for rusty English, говорю на русском;)

      @@antonyhope8708 I understand your point, I personally own one Mexican jazz bass from 1998 and some recent Squier for modding purposes.
      They have nice instruments and I was a big fan of those.
      I just feel like, at some price point, you really must be a fan to buy a midrange/low high end level instrument from them.
      I am from Brussels, but my great grandfather was from Kiev… or URSS in that time ;-)
