- The unique culture and lifestyle of Big Sky’s residents is still alive, but it is changing rapidly. This short film echoes the words of Big Sky’s founder Chet Huntley and his vision for what the community of Big Sky will be, and what it won’t be for future generations.
As Chet once said “It might be appropriate to go back and just think for a little bit, and do things with longer spaces in between”.
Winning film from the 2023 Big Sky Shootout Film Festival - Sport
Another one for the books! Thanks, Chris for your awesome story telling! Miss you.
WOW. Love the mixing of old and new footage, especially in the exact same location. This is my 35th consecutive winter with at least a few days in Big Sky. You did an amazing job of showing the absolute explosion in growth last 10 years without negativity about it. Every great place gets crowded eventually. If you fight it you get bitter so either be grateful for where you are or find somewhere else to avoid people.
The ski industry has turned into the greed industry
Worked there in the late 70's when it was just getting off the ground. Chet Huntley died and that opened the gates for the greedfest. Bucks two4 was an awesome party fest with Mission Mountain band a lot of the times. The skiing terrain had tremendous potentail. Which is evident today how amazing the place is. Only thing that is lacking is not having regular big snow years. If your a big skiier in your early 20's wanting to work and live the skiing life , this is the place to be
Outstanding job on this project.
Beautiful. Powerful. Eloquent. Thank you soo much Chris for sharing this film. It has and will continue to move more of us than you will ever know. 🙏🏼
I love big sky but we need to keep it how it was meant to be
Awesome edit
Great video, skiing is a strange mix and conflict of nature's sublimity and industry's bounty. Despite the monstrous transformations of ski towns, the act of skiing itself remains a dance between gravity and mountain that cannot be built upon or spoiled.
If Big Sky had Snowbird’s snow, it would be one of the best mountains in the world
Excellent film.
I'm not sure the current model is sustainable. The big resorts opt in to the multi-resort passes. More skiers from all over, more travel overall, more carbon in the atmosphere.
More extreme weather, less snow overall, fewer ski days. Plus powder days are more like powder hour, it gets skied down so fast. Sustainable ??
great video
but it’s already too late
