    *Is this shorter format more watchable? I cut out 30 minutes from the original. I am testing out a new format here to see if this helps reach more viewers. Is **1:30** too long for most viewers? Should I keep them down to below 40 mins?*

      It really depends. When I have the time to sit and watch for a long time, I can easily watch for over an hour (especially your videos/similar videos), but overall, I'd say most people would probably enjoy the shorter format, as it it pretty easy to forget about a video you started watching, and once you lose track of what happened during the first time you watched, it's not gonna be as interesting to watch further. So, 30-40 minutes should be long enough. And if there is just so much, that it doesn't fit, end on a cliffhanger, remind to sub, and upload next week. It's a trap I fell for many times......

    • @avidhunter6169

      @earl shaner , Hello from Portland, Oregon, Earl (and to all others of course). Earl I have hunted for the better part of the last 52+ years and I... okay wait, I just glanced back up at your comment as I started typing this and I'm now not exactly sure what you are saying. First you say "most people don't have their weapon loaded when they are in the woods" and indicate that a law would be broken if they did. Then you say, (paraphrased here), that when YOU get ready to go into the woods you always load your weapon and put the safety on. Did you mean to say that most people don't load their guns until they GET to the woods to avoid breaking any carrying a loaded weapon in a motor vehicle laws? Then when you get TO the woods then that is the time that you load your gun prior to leaving your vehicle to go INTO the woods (safety on of course)? Because that is what I started to say has been my practice ever since I started hunting more than 52yrs ago. If that is what you were saying, then I completely agree with you. It is just the only prudent, sensible and SAFE thing to do when entering the woods where wild predators are abundant. Especially when you are hunting those wild predators.--- Side note here: I really wish there was someway to underline a word like we used to be able to do without using ALL CAPS. It makes me feel like I'm SCREAMING when that isn't what I intend. IS there a way to underline that I'm not aware of? Anybody?

    So my thought was “Oh no! He shot him in front of his brother!” That being said, honestly the sound of the shot probably immediately scared the other bear away. I’m not a hunter, but I respect hunters and feel like finding food in the wild where the animals lived naturally is WAY better than the industrialized meat industry, which although I wish I didn’t have to contribute to, as an omnivore, I do. Thank you for these videos.

    • @KettmanAquatic
      @KettmanAquatic Před rokem +1

      Well if you really dislike factory farming don't contribute to it. You can hunt and fish. You just won't be able to eat as much meat. It's your money keeping these factory farms in business. I guess thats just up to you to decide if its worth the abuse and suffering. I know people are omnivores, but most dietetic associations agree that vegan and vegetarian diets are healthy, and the association of nutrition and dietetics of America has even stated its healthy for all stages of life. So there are a few option if you don't like to see or pay for animals to be in factory farms. You're not helpless you're just doing what everyone else does.

    It makes me sad to see such a majestic creature shot down. I know it's hypocritical of me as a meat eater. I have killed chickens before, and fish... but never large game.
    Honest questions... Why don't hunters go for an instant kill head shot? Is it because it's a smaller target? Seems like that would be an instant kill instead of having the animal's lung fill up with blood as it runs away... Is it only because that would ruin the trophy of having the head stuffed?
    I'm not trying to be overly critical just honestly curious.

      The first time I had Black Bear meat I was about 13 years old and my dad had just been given a few pounds by a friend of his. When I got home from school I was hungry and found a plate of something in the fridge that looked interesting and when I asked my dad if I could have some he told me he had just been waiting until I got home to share it with me. So he came out to the kitchen and made a couple of sandwiches. What I bit into was delicious and I scarfed it down like a 13 year old hungry boy would do after a long baseball practice and school day. That was when I decided to ask him what it was that I had just eaten and he told me it was bear tartare. Again, as I said, it was delicious. I had no idea at that time, over 50 years ago, that bears could have trichinosis, nor do I believe did my dad. Fortunately for us trichinosis is only present in 5.8% of black bears. Thankfully it wasn't brown bear or grizzly bear meat where the percentage is 73%. That was the only time I ever ate it raw, just incidentally, not because I knew anything about trichinosis. Bear meat however is also very delicious cooked in any variety of ways. Now I'm hungry for bear! I think I am going to have to look into a handicap bear hunt in my area.

    Good point about bear being difficult to track in Ontario due to bush density. Still though, I think you can and will try with camera only just before hunt season in August. It is a good chance to test map reading and understanding of bear habitat before a real hunt. If I sight anything, will do a real hunt like that in mid hunt season.

I don't have access to places that give away expired pastries (Tims and Robins have a policy against this actually). Just curious what your bait mix was consisting of and roughly how much you were baiting and how often you were baiting?
    I started in the fall last year baiting nearly every other day with apples from public trees and a mix of goat feed and molasses.

      @@TheWoodedBeardsman Sorry Chris, I do understand your point here, you weren't thinking about hunting at that time, you were just concentrating on getting the treestand up. However you were walking into woods where there are bears around and walking up to a bait station where the likelihood of running into a bear is dramatically increased. So no excuses. However you acknowledged that you made a simple mistake and commented that you had learned from that mistake so I don't think your knuckles deserve a rap, maybe just a slight smack on the head and a knucklehead comment. 😉Grinning here dude. We have all made mistakes when hunting at one time or another, what matters is that we learn from our mistakes and do better the next time and you did do that so KUDOS my man. I have seen enough of your videos now to know that I would feel safe hunting with you anytime, anywhere. I realize that you don't know ME but if you did you would know that that is the biggest compliment I can give to anyone I have ever hunted with. I don't care how good of a hunter someone is or how well they can shoot or set up a camp or just about anything else that is something that they will eventually learn as they continue to hunt more and more. SAFETY with their weapon of choice is my NUMBER ONE CONCERN in a hunting partner everything else can be learned as long as you are alive to learn it. I don't know but maybe you can probably tell that I have had more than one experience where someone I hunted with, whether just the two of us or in a group, wasn't safe and it was a close call. I have a scar on my left chest and one on my forehead just within the hairline that were grazes from a .30 Rem and a .30-06 Rem respectively and I also have a couple of scars from the bird shot pellets of a 12 gauge that are on my left inner thigh just about 1 1/2 inches below the family jewels. That last one was caused when I was pounding on the car window trying to get my younger brother to stop playing with the 12 gauge laying in the backseat and unlock and get out of the car. He was about 10 and I was almost 12. The gun went off and fired through the door and tore/blasted the crotch out of my blue jeans. I thank god to this day that my blue jeans fit loosely and that I was still a couple of months from going through puberty. So now you see why safety is THE number one issue for me. Keep the videos coming Chris, please. Doesn't matter to me if they are 20 minutes, 40 minutes, an hour 1 1/2hrs or 3hrs. I make the time so that I can watch them all the way through because yours are ALWAYS interesting enough to want to do so.
