In this video we will explore, Jabana, an urban village located near Kigali's chaotic Nyabugogo district. Despite its poverty, the area is very beautiful!
We were in Rwanda last January and LOVED IT!!! So beautiful. We were visiting from Liberia. Even the poor section or slum as you call it is nice. Compared to slums in America, yes America. Look up tent cities or Fentanyl problem in cities. They look like war zones in many of the big cities. They even defecate on the sidewalks! Rwanda has come a long way and I pray that it continues to prosper!
@M45N If you think the United States is the Promised Land, you are sadly mistaken. Look up the homeless problem in the big cities. Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Philadelphia. They have tent cities. This in America. Also look at the unemployment in West Virginia and people havea hard time feeling their families. America used to be very strong, but has been seriously declining. I live in Liberia, West Africa by the way- not USA.
So true honestly my family are migrants to the uk 🇬🇧 100s of years ago but our tribe were very clean but I be honest now some cultures have come to the country and it’s filthy in some areas I use to see the old school British woman scrub floors and steps shiny red on there hands and knees we never had plastic bags back then straw and paper. But now my country has become like a slum. Honesty it is sad Rwanda keep up the good work
Did you do your research or its a feel good coomment. Slum is slum everywhere and developing just two/three regions in a whole country is not development in a small country with population of 14million.
It really is. Something about the way these areas are laid out is very appealing..the only thing missing is paving and some other cosmetic improvements.
It’s good you have shown the poorer parts of Rwanda 🇷🇼 most CZcamsrs only show you nice restaurants and fancy places I would love to visit this country for a holiday
There is nothing wrong with their lifestyle. Development takes time, and no one there was starving or lacking the basics for a happy and fulfilled life.
Government of Rwanda has an initiative of upgrading all informal settlements located not only in Kigali but also in other cities of the country, Biryogo-Rwampara area in Nyamirambo was upgraded some years ago, now Gitega near that area u visited is being upgraded too, soon other places will follow. be positive and thankful please.
I have seen the worst slums in Asia and other parts of the world, I have to say this is not bad at all. The roads are very dangerous especially when it rains. Thank you for showing the hidden side.
Another good one Willie. Looks like the "mwiriwe" and "mwaramutse" confused you a little bit. Love the plug for your man Junior. Good job. Keep up filming.
I'm a Rwandan lives in South Africa. I worked as classroom construction supervisor in this slum, honestly speaking before i travel i thought my slum 😅 i grew up was the ugliest on this planet until i settled myself in other parts of Africa
@10:41-10:43 the little hse to the right of the screen on which some sanding have been applied is made of RUKARAKARA: typical RUKARAKARA are bricks made of mud while most hses in Jabana are made of plain mud. Rukarakara is more durable than mud as it goes through the process of drying and you can make some mixing of raw materials depending on where you are and the means you have to make it even more durable, as any brick would.
Fully watched ! How on earth did you get down those narrow hills, going back down hills ? I pray the government of Rwanda relocates those people and redevelop that area, flattening the hills as much as possible, and builds quality new modern social housing for sale and renting.

The only problem in Rwanda is sharp disparity btn the poor and the rich, lack of prosperity among Young people, practically corruption, nepotism and favoritism when opportunities present themselves. However the government tries to make Rwanda a better place.
Rwanda is a young country. It cannot just become middle class. Luckily for the Rwandans, the government and visionary leader are creating a path forward to improve lives in this comparable small country
😅 The traffic situation appears highly disorderly. There are no clear traffic controls or designated bike lanes and People and cars together on the streets unsafe uncivilized, resulting in complete chaos. Bragging about cleanliness is irrelevant when safety is compromised. Cleanliness should be ingrained as a way of life, not flaunted. From what I see, it's unsafe for both drivers and pedestrians in that area.
Willie the jury's out. I'm still debating if I would call this place a slum. Probably not I would call it a suburban low income settlement. It's too clean and somewhat organised to be called a slum. Bottom line I could comfortably live in some of the accommodation at the lower end of the settlement. Not fit enough for those further up
