During my career, the first thing I did when getting home from work (after greeting my darling kitty and dog) was to remove and steam the outfit I wore that day (usually a wool skirt suit and silk blouse). I inspected everything first for spots or grime, of course. My suits also got a brushing to remove lint and hair. Then, I just left everything to dry overnight in my laundry area, with my fan on low, to make sure they smelled fresh, too. A full-size steamer, good iron and ironing board with built-in sleeve board, and clothes and shoe brushes are essential. We walled off the portion of out long garage where the laundry machines are to make a “laundry room” and I just leave my board, steamer, set up there. I have my iron plugged into the ceiling so that the cord stays out of the way, and a good light above the ironing board. Once I got this efficient set-up, I became much more likely to get all my wardrobe maintenance done.

It is the perfect summer dress! I recently brought it with me to Tybee and spilled mustard on the front... but I finally got that stubborn stain out and it's back in my summer rotation.
I totally agree that wrinkled or creased clothes immediately lower the chic factor, the exception being linen, of course. Even then, a light press never hurts. But I actually enjoy setting aside part of an afternoon or evening to get out the ironing board and the pile of clothes that I’ve set aside to iron. What a great excuse to binge-watch TV! I find it soothing, love the steam, and feel a sense of accomplishment knowing that everything in my closet is ready to go.
I iron my woven-fabric items and steam my knits and silks, in general. I love silk because it never needs ironing after that first initial ironing to remove the deeply-set packing wrinkles. Ironing and steaming are hot work, but I don’t really mind them if I do them in the cool mornings, with an Audible book playing on a Blue-Tooth speaker. I find them relaxing actually. I just batch everything that needs attention in my laundry area, whether laundering, ironing, shoe polishing, etc., until a morning when I can get to these wardrobe maintenance tasks. Everything in my closet is 100% ready-to-wear, I don’t put anything in there that isn’t. This greatly simplifies getting dressed every morning. I also let clothes dry completely after ironing or steaming, otherwise they’ll crease again immediately if worn while slightly damp.
Timely advice and so very true! Especially grooming, it's an invisible statement how we feel ourselves. If you take the extra step, others will pick up on it!

why do so many forget about the scarf - its a lifesaver. Long ones hides a tummy, a bright one turns head and gives compliments. I do prefer silk all year and also pashima all year. But i havnt bought them for a fortune. But i have been lucky. I found an hermes scarf for 80 dollars including shipping in original package because the seller wasnt sure it was real but i took the bright new to Hermes shop and they said it was original. So one hasn't pay a leg or an arm all the time. I like your channel so i will follow you. I dont have any craving for Hermes bags. I am a person that always forgets scarfs, bags ,sunglasses, glasses, mobils so i have stooped buying too expensive things. My base is black, brown, white, beige and red. Because i am very good looking in red/orange/yellow despite i have pale face, red cheeks and grey red hair. I am 60 and many things i am much younger. I learned that from my grandmother- she was the best in teaching in style and she was much modern i n style than me so i inherit all the cloths the time. And I always wears headband and big hats. I have a face that demand big hats, Or high hats

Thanks for such an amazing video! I have an iron+ironing board but, honestly?! The steamer was a life changer! It can be used vertically or horizontally (like the classic iron position) and now I even use it when making my bed to give it a luxurious and polished look. Worth every penny!

You are so correct that grooming is key to looking elegant. I think it's why I like Italian style so much, Everyone seems to be "pressed". I'm fortunate that I can now afford to have a gel manicure and pedicure every two weeks. I live in tropical Florida and my feet are always on display. I don't even want to think about how much my haircut it, but the stylist is terrific. When well groomed, I can head out the door in a $30.00 dress from Amazon, flip flops and look and feel terrific.

I don’t like oversized clothes, they drown my tiny frame. I do have a naturally larger bust, though, so I look for semi-fitted shirts with bust darts, they make all the difference in fit. I found my favorite white linen one while searching online for “women’s shirts with bust darts”. It’s no-iron, too, an unexpected bonus! It was from Chico’s, not a store I shop at, but it was a great find nevertheless. This was more than five years ago, I don’t know if they still carry them, but I would love to find similar, no-iron linen ones in some light colors and stripes. The no-iron finish does slightly reduce the breathability, but not nearly as much as a synthetic fiber blended in does. It’s still very cool, airy and wearable.
Darts are key!
Chaps no iron cotton shirts. They have darts.
A "third" piece is great if you live where it is "cool" most of the time. Here is the South, a third piece is even too hot to carry much less wear! Even air conditioning is not that effective. Isn't there a better alternative to a coat/sweater/jacket?
A third piece doesn't always have to be a jacket or sweater, it could be a statement necklace or a scarf.

Beth.. I have a new pair of black linen pants.. flowy legs. ( I also have straight leg pants in white, black, brown, beige and taupe). I'm sort and top heavy now size 14. I'm in the south in a hot humid climate where it's no longer possible to spend much time outdoors. Is it better to wear the lighter co.or pants for daytime? Oh no! I hate plain white clothes! I always have and never wear white shoes, hats, dresses, shirts, pants, swimsuits, underwear or carry white handbags. Solid blacks and grays are the colors I wear most.

I steam my clothes before wearing them. I am casually chic from head to toe every day, lucky to wear a size 0-2 and accessorize with jewelry, mostly real gems and gold and a designer purse and shoes. Where I live now, most women are in poor shape and dress horribly but I do not care.

Sometimes, you just have to make hard decisions. It’s not that you don’t love your old stylist, but if something isn’t working and you’re not looking your best you have to move forward.

Believe it or not many women don't wear clothes that fit. And, that, is how to look expensive, wearing clothes that fit.
What advice to you have with poor women who can't afford hair cut or stylist or teeth whitner?
Hygiene has no price point. My advice would be to take good care of your teeth with regular brushing and flossing. And take good care of your hair with shampoo and conditioner.
Your skin care routine needs to include care for your chest ! It looks bad .
It does include my chest. It’s a very delicate area that’s been damaged from the sun in years gone by. I’ve suffered from skin cancer there too. The scar is quite visible wearing this blouse. But all is well now as we caught it in time.
