As many other have pointed out, these ammo racks happen when small caliber shells cook-off. The reason we see tanks at higher BRs lose their turrets is because the big shells with a lot of propellant in the cartridge catch on fire and explode, causing a chain reaction. These early tanks have much lower caliber shells that aren't able to create the same chain reaction most of the time, and they cook off one-by-one, leading to this crackling and popping. Similar to when MG ammo cooks off in real life.
Also, historically the charges used in these guns weren't nearly as powerful at the start of the war (with a few exceptions), so it makes sense that they don't explode as violently.
BRs? Someone's been playing too much war thunder
oh thax!!:) i needed to know after qb brought is up
Great explanation!
Wouldn’t have done it better!

GGs QB, now lets boycott new update.
He won't. He'll talk all this shit about the game and how greedy WG is yet still play and make content for the game. Him and all the other CCers for this game just blow smoke up ppls asses and only pander to their audiences in vids but still shill for WG.

The Churchill tanks are quite unique. They can be fun at times and infuriating the majority of time. I received a Raider medal in the Churchill VII. I was too slow to get into position to fight anyone, so I went for the cap.
I think Jingles showed an IS-7 do the same thing many years ago. Good on you.
@@jwrockets I was in a game on the old Karelia where a T95 drove down the middle of the map and won by cap, it was never spotted and got the raider medal.
The special ammo rack happens when ammo doesn’t all cook off at once. What you see is ammo continuously cooking off. The heat from the initially exploding shells burns through other shells bit by bit. Usually happens with normal caliber bullets and can happen with high numbers of low caliber tank shells. It doesn’t happen with larger tank shells usually because when ammo detonates it’s big enough to just detonate everything simultaneously more often.
Reminds me setting off a bunch of matches bundled together. Makes a similar sound. 😅
It's because they use a machine gun I'd say.
Also some larger shells are 2 piece propellant charge and actual projectile
Churchills, matildas, valentines and shermans were all sent to the soviets during ww2 so yes the churchill III is accurate
Soviet Shermans were diesel.
m3's also
edit: meaning the m3 Stuart, not the m3 lee - forgot that trash existed
It just so happens that I have handy Steve Zaloga's "Soviet Lend-Lease Tanks of World War II," and Moscow received about 250 Churchills. About another 50 went to the fish of the Arctic Ocean. The Soviets didn't love the tank, though they did tend to issue them to elite Guards units.
The 57th Guards Tank Army used them, and I think it is the "Fire Bulge" camo & emblem (a preset style) which I have on my Churchill III. It was given away during the 75th anniversary of Kursk.
The different effect for Ammo Rack for low tier is most likely tied to the gun caliber. Low tiers for the most part have sub 90mm guns, so it is probably that. Smaller "bullets" (that have a propellant), so smaller explosions.
Had to laugh when you mentioned your Vk2801 going up against 10s. My T50-2 (before they retired it and brought it back) under the old physics got one Steel Wall out of 1500 games by going up against tier 10s. Those giant shells just kept miraculously ricocheting as I was ridge-running around like a madman.
I remember a QB’s replay where an E75 had that kind of ammorack a few years ago 🤔 (the turret didn’t blew up, just a lot of fire being projected like a rocket from the upper part of the turret).
Still behind Circon with his 4301. Time to step it up!
The reason lower tiers have special ammo racks is because, one they have a lot of ammo, and two smaller ammo acts like fire crackers when exploding instead of a larger boom in higher tier tanks. Thanks QB for all of the content and I hope you continue to shape a great and well produced game.
The Churchill III was my first premium and I adored it.
It was also the first tank I got a Kolobanov's in, years ago on dragons ridge.
QB, I have a pretty good idea about the ammo rack. It could quite well be the SIZE of the tanks ammo, the bigger the shell the tank has inside it the more explosive the ammo rack, so when you ammo rack a low tier tank, most of them have 37mm rounds in them so it more just burns in the tank instead of exploding. It's just less powder to burn.
I got my Churchill III when missions for going up a tech tree lines used to give free tanks (be it low tier). I got mine from missions for going up the IS-7 line and glad I did because it’s been a fun tank and helped me train up a few high skilled Soviet tank crews
I had a battle in the Churchill 3 recently, and was only a few xp short of my just over 3k xp battle with the Chaffee, which was when the Chaffee was a top tier LT at tier 5, in a tier 10 battle on Malinovka
Saw this live. Loved it! LOVED IT!
At the battle of Kursk the soviets had only 2 heavy tank regiments. One was armed with the KV1S and the other Churchills.
They actually have ammo racks like that for some upper tier vehicles. For example, I play the Obj 261 a decent amount. About a week ago, I was playing on a grand battle map. I was escaping an Obj 907 that was arty hunting. Next thing I know, one of his teammates playing a Lion 2-shots me. Second shot was an ammo rack, and I exploded... just like that Valentine II.
I think the Churchill NA75 [North Africa 75] could work as a Tier V Premium UK Heavy Tank;
200 produced. Churchill IVs with 6-pounder guns replaced (under Operation Whitehot) by US 75 mm guns and mantlets from destroyed or scrapped Sherman tanks, fitted to Churchill IV cast turrets. Their performance was virtually identical to the VI. They were known as NA 75 (North Africa 75) where the first conversions took place, after 48 Shermans with new guns had been disabled by mines. Some Mark IIIs were also modified, using Mark IV turrets. To fit the Sherman mantlet required cutting away the front of the Churchill turret before it was welded in place, then the mantlet slot had to be cut away to give sufficient elevation. The Sherman 75 mm gun was designed for a left hand loader and the Churchill, in common with British practice, had a right hand loader. The gun was turned upside down and the firing controls adapted.[64] The conversion of about 200 tanks was carried out between March to June 1944 and the conversion project earned the officer in charge, Capt. Percy Morrell, an MBE and a promotion.
Taken from the Churchill Tank Wikipedia Article
I bought the Churchill 3 just for those daily missions where you need top XP on your team.
Churchill III is a great but very slow tank. Glad you are feeling better!
I had the Church III back in the CBT and it was a fun little tonk
Yeah me and 2 other people got setup defending our cap in these, just 3 tanks parked side by side doing continuous rapid fire down range. Sadly in those days with the MM the enemy tanks where mostly impenetrable so we lost that one, but it was hilariously fun just going pew-pew-pew. Where talking over a round a second average rate of fire.
physics got added to the game a whole lot later than the britis tanks.British tanks were introduced 8.2 the current physics model well over 10 patches later.
Churchill 3 and matilda 4 of the soviet tree were both historically accurate matilda was lend-leased although the model of lend-lease taken to USSR was mk IV not Mk III. Matilda IV was soviet attempt to fit a modified tank gun and a purpose built modified gunmantlet, sights etc on matilda turret as attempt to upgun the matilda. Although soviets found matilda somewhat acceptable the churchills were in their eyes even worse than their own equipment.
Yeah, I joined WOT in 2013 and physics wasn't a thing then.
I believe the reason why those low tier's have those special ammo racks is because of their very small caliber and usually high amounts of Ammo. (4:23)
Or, what my other theory is because they have magazines.
QB, this video made me realise I was driving my Churchill III with incomplete ammunition load FOR YEARS :D I always had 105/35 and something was not adding up seeing your loadout. I never actually shot 140 shells but it's better to have the extra capacity, innit?
I did my top xp in similar fashion, on same map, but in tier 6 as M4E1A2, one of my favorite tanks
Churchill III was my first ever premium tank from way back in the day. Still love it.
4:12 My friends and I call that a "juicy ammo rack" and I agree with you, it seems to only happen at low tiers.
It is the lend lease Churchill 3. The UK also sent matildas and valentines which I think the soviets preferred as they were more reliable.
Its the same as the WoTB. If you finish a tank off with extremely low HP AND its an ammorack, it causes turret pop and a nice flash.
6:28 WG: "WRITE THAT DOWN!"
4:30 they only happen at low-tiers because of the small caliber but high amount of ammunition the tanks at that level carry.
If you lose/draw but still get a battle hero or epic medal, you get bonus XP for courageous resistance, which counts towards the base XP, according to the game. I know because my current record is 3410 (with premium) and that battle was a draw with the post battle results saying 1470 something base.
Yes, Churchill's were part of the UK's lend lease agreement with the USSR.
I suspect that ammo rack explosion sound is to represent the caliber of the shells, and how many there are.
I haven't played in 8 years but I still love your vids.
Just saw a team raptor boosting ad before this video haha
Good year so far QB😎
Playing this tank right now on Console to grind an Earn Op called Dream Machines due to it's base xp bonus (I think it's something like 38% Base XP + 40% XP Bonus (But on Console it displays 78% Bonus XP). I use Premium Rounds against any Tier 5+ Heavies and the Panzer V/IV which on Console has 870 HP at Tier 5.
I still think it should be a British/Russian Dual Trainer. My Favourite tank to use for earn ops which require top 5 placements.
Significant numbers of British Churchill (mk IV), Matilda and Valentine tanks were shipped to the USSR. according to wiki
Yep for some years back in the early days of WOT, my highest XP was in the Churchill III.
I think with all new stuff of the new update you can have even better dpm on Churchill, with alll this new perks and full bond equipment;)
hope this game will last for another 13 years. I hope WG doesn't make stupid decisions
thats a huge shame the next update is full of those stupid decisions that kill the game!
It's dead I won't return now. Rip my premium tanks but why waste your life grinding for years for an absolute comedic scam of a game
You mean decisions as in the past?
too late
This comment gotta be from the past
QB what do you think about the ARL 44 with the 105 built for camo view range and dpm as an afterthought. I've been experimenting with it on console and it's been working pretty good.
Also my best xp ever is in this tank. Perfect crew trainer for Soviets heavies. Gratz QB 🎉
I ammo racked a type 4/5 and it spit a column of fire out the top. I was like "wtf" and zoomed in on it when it went boom as well.
Just bought it and have so much fun ;) Thank You
The Soviets received Churchills, mostly 4s I think but also 3s. IIRC like 90 of them were lost at sea to the DKM and Luftwaffe.
those ammoracks happens on low tiers bec, they have big autoloder clips. and for it is special sound
i haven't played my for ages. And here's answer about Churchill in Russia during WW2 :''the Churchill was used by British and other Commonwealth forces during the North African, Italian and North-West Europe campaigns. In addition, 344 Churchills were sent as military aid to the Soviet Union during the Second World War and more than 250 saw active service on the Eastern Front.''
Xp may be broken on the Churchill 3 but you still played a damn good game buddy and really had to earn it as well.
That was my first premium tank, and its still one of my favorite :] the spit master !
4:13 the rare ammo rack at low tiers is probably because of the caliber or size of the shells. that's my guess.
High degree of confidence that that kind of ammo rack happens with low caliber ammunition, whose detonation does not have enough blast force to pop the turret.
A43 BP tier 6 even has a 3D camo I have yet to see it get played tho but premium british tier 6 black prince. been in the game files for 4 years now.
i THINK that ammo rack happens because the shells that the low tier tanks fire arent explosive enough to blow the turret off so it just burns up the tank
This convoy was the last to carry Churchill II tanks. British sources claim that 45 Churchill II tanks were sent to the USSR, of which 26 made it to their destination
Insane game
I got that same ammo rack inside the premium Italian TD. Scared the bejeezus out of me.
Standard pen is really fine...it is all I load.
Great credit maker!!
They’ve changed the base experience rating system over the years….I have over 2700 base experience in a Wolverine that I could never duplicate today 😮
Type 62 on Chinese server used to have a +100% Exp bonus I think, although the vehicle itself was not very good, it could ensure a first place by just suicide spotting.
I remember the Churchill III being my first premium almost a decade ago..
nice to see and hear you with your non-metal-singer voice back : )
Well the Churchill was an infantry support tank , it only had to go as fast 💨 as the average infantry marching pace or a quick Jogging pace
The Churchill III and the Matilda IV and the Valentine II were the tanks that the British gave the Soviet Union in 1942 as part of the Lend Lease Program that U.K and U.S.A created in order to help the U.S.S.R without being directly involved. U.S.A leased M3 & M5 Stuarts, M4 Shermans, M3 Half-tracks as well as planes, materials and other equipment, U.K also supplied materails and equipment to the U.S.S.R as well. The tanks in the game that is from the lend lease program is the M3 Stuart(U.S.A) and the 3 British tanks mentioned at the start of my comment.
"The Soviet Union was sent 301 Churchill tanks" - hey, something based on reality. 2023 Wargaming could learn a thing from that.
That, and the Mk. III was the most numerous of Churchill models they received.
I love the Lansen. Not very good in it but always enjoy my games in it.
I think my record is 2,710 or something like that? I stopped playing wot years ago but I got mine in the KV-2 before they split the KV series up. It was a teir 5 at the time and i got into a T8 game. Great vid man, I dont play anymore but I still follow your content.
When I saw the lancen game I was like look at that, quickybaby will take forever to beat that and, then I thought wait i didn’t think of the Churchill and then I saw the Churchill game on stream
back in the days that the chaffee and vk28 could meet tier 10s the chaffee was wild when it ended up in a tier 5 game
This weird ammorack happened to an E75 in Sand River in a video you featured a few years ago. Seems to be related to low caliber guns and/or low alpha, so instead of a massive detonation it's a slow burning effect.
My boy out here lookin like a young Qui Gon Jin
The Churchill III is pretty fun
15:18 That's a coincidence. My record XP is also 3339 but in the Churchill III. Don't despair QB. I've noticed that the PZ V/IV also has a very high XP multiplier. Maybe try playing that tank more if you would prefer it as your XP record holder.
4:05 - I think it's because many British and US tanks were send to the USSR as a lend lease tanks, that's why Matilda IV, Valentine II, M3 Stuart and Sherman M4A2 are also Soviet tanks in WoT
6:28 - yes and no, again it's because Matildas were lend-lease tanks
.
Every tank will be OP in Quickybabies hand.
Im not ahsamed to have my XP Record in my Churchill III as well, such a fun tank.
QB can you pls make a video on where you guide poeple on how to use the WG feedback office form, so more people will know how to have a say in the new changes.
My personnal record is also with the churchil III, 11 kills, 3.9k dmg 3056 base exp, with prems 4584. Churchill is monstruous for getting exp so easy
This is late, but you will only get the "rare" ammo rack at smaller caliber guns, i believe 57mm and lower is the range, and the reasoning is that when you get ammo racked, it goes off almost like a chain reaction, similar to fire crackers, however bigger calibers explode in a bigger radius, therefore the turret goes flying off, and the ammo will explode at once.
that matilda xD
Churchill 3 is my original tank and i love that thing
The Soviet Union was sent 301 Churchill tanks (45 Mk II, 151 Mk III and 105 Mk IV) as part of the Lend-Lease programme. 43 of them (19 Mk II and 24 Mk III) were lost en route on the Arctic Convoys.
quite funnily, Tiger II and E75, E50 get the long ammo rack explosion.
they should do a scrap yard game mode, so like you have all the tanks you have unlocked, but they can't be used as one machine, you have to make your own frankenmachine out of pieces, so you can use the lower off one tank, tracks and engine off another, and the turret off whatnot.. totally mix and match based on what you have unlocked already
The Soviet Union were given 151 Churchill III (along with Mk II and Mk IV, totalling 301 tanks) through lend-lease. All of which they called "Mk IV".
Overall they though it was a decent tank marred with rushed development and production. The gun was adequate, the armour was good, the engine was well designed, and it was able to neutral turn. However the gearbox was prone to breaking and leaking. The fuel lines were also prone to leaking. The tracks would fill up with mud and dent the mudguards, blocking the gun. The track links were welded making them difficult to repair in the field. Which was a problem when the tracks would fall off when the tank tilted 20 degrees, or when the roadwheels fell off during manoeuvres.
The Matilda IV put up a damn good fight. ...if he had packed more AP or gold he might have won it.
Churchill AVRE would be a good british premium churchill, sort of a bz176 at tier 5?
Yes, there is a tier 5 British Churchill I & a tier 6 Churchill VII.
Those low tier ammo racks are because the caliber of the gun is low meaning it's not substantial enough to cause a massive explosion that blow the turret off as mentioned in other comments
I like to use Churchill III when I have the "highest EXP in my team" daily mission.
The Soviet Union was sent 301 Churchill tanks (45 Mk II, 151 Mk III and 105 Mk IV) as part of the Lend-Lease programme. 43 of them (19 Mk II and 24 Mk III) were lost en route on the Arctic Convoys. from wikipedia
The different ammorack sound is per caliber.
I can't remember for sure since it was years ago but I think this was my first ever premium tank
83% of WoT players have their exp record in this tank.
I'm not sure that that many players have the Churchill III...
@@Steamrick Yeah i just made it up.
I think Circon broke his exp record twice last month in this thing too when he was 3 marking it. Dirty stuff.
congrats
Well done.
Just got the Churchill to try it. Did 4400 damage and still lost. Unbelievable. At least i got 4400xp as the top xp in my account.
