  • Textbook English is different from spoken English, and a big part of this comes down to pronunciation and how things are said in real conversations.
This is Part 2 in my series on pronunciation, where we first looked at Linking in Episode 255, and now we're looking at Elision. These are both features of connected speech that share some similarities.
In this episode, I share an example of elision followed by a question or challenge for myself that I also ask you (the listeners) to do as well!

When I take Piccadilly line, it's London underground, to commute between Central London to Heathrow, I always hear "Next station is Hyper Corner".
"HYPER CORNER". What kind of corner is this? I always wonder. And ended up to know it's "Hyde Park Corner" This was one of my funny experience to know what Elision is☺

That's an amazing example! Good ear! Going from the B to the P sound is a bit effortful, and since they are so similar, the D there often gets dropped.
From now on, I'll refer to it as Hyper Corner haha
