Absolutely respect that answer of Ringo. One of the most creative drummers of all time.
During a primitive era.
@@en2456a primitive era that produced far better music than the modern era
@@jeremykeelermusic3153 That's what makes it more impressive. The primitive equipment breeded higher creativity and innovation.
@@en2456exactly
Still trending 60 years later.
Tré Cool: I have a table.
Dave Danger: I have a folding barstool.
James Hetfield: I am the table
@@gpguitar6076 I was hoping someone would say that. haha.
Tré cool is epic. Epic respect for his answer and the shout out to Meg 🙏
Ringo was the first to leave the Beatles and Keith Moon wanted the gig, but John and Paul immediately realized they needed Ringo back. Ringo is a song drummer. He says when he listens to other songs he doesn't hear the drum part he just hears the song.
Keith Moon couldn't do Ringo's job if his life depended on it.
@@redrick8900 That goes the same for Ringo doing Moon's job... They are simply different kind of drummers... that's all
"he just plays the song" is the exact same thing I'd say for Tré, he knows he's there for the song and the band, he's not there for himself.
tre is always perfect when playing. just an amazing machine.
No bs, he's on MY mt Rushmore of great drummers.
@@djjazzyjeff1232who else you got?
Carter Beauford and Neil Peart are definitely in the conversation.
gavin harrison, danny carey,Simon Philips, tony Williams, john bonham
Matt greiner or Matt Garstka, drummers from 40 years ago can not even touch modern metalcore drummers, expand your horizons
Lmao@@brandon7233
I found the lack of Neil disturbing.
@@brandon7233Whoa, Neil was putting out unrivaled drumwork with Rush straight through the 90s & 2000s. There's a lot of great power metal & thrash metal drummers too, blast beats and machine gun breakdowns are great but there's other ways to be great than be the fastest alive.
The meg white shoutout is based
She wasn't the most technical but she knew exactly how to bang those drums when playing with Jack. Their chemistry is wild
Played to fit the song. Jack White hasn’t made an album that touches the White Stripes material without her.
@@Walrus286 100%!
@Walrus286 As soon as Jack started shredding he lost the plot
@alexgrantham4747 name a song where Jack "shreds" and we'll tell you exactly how it isn't shredding 😊
Fascinating how seldom Alex Van Halen is mentioned
Eddie was just so huge. He overshadowed everything. Alex is a monster drummer.
Exactly. He’s just Eddie’s brother.
Tre Cool mentioned Al in his Rock Hall of Fame speech as one of his inspirations. So he’s a fan.
@@johnwelsh2769 and if he didnt overshadow it adding david lee roth to the mix didnt help, but alex and michael anthony more than held their own
Alex wasn’t that good. He was just you run of the mill rock drummer. Far from exceptional
Tre is a brilliant drummer
Pfft he's a basic punk drummer
@@dcmastermindfirst9418you definitely don't know music / drums
Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Neil, Phil Collins, Chester Thompson, Bill Bruford,
Both McCartney and Lennon said that Ringo's exciting drumming is the reason that The Beatles became a success.
😂😂😂😂😂
a lot of people say stuff
Ironically, George Harrison's insistence is the reason that Ringo replaced Pete Best. @@srt4b
@@srt4bSo so true😅
I can't remember if it was during a solo album recording for John or Paul, but one of them finally looked at the drummer and said, "can you just play it how Ringo would?"
Ringo played precisely what the track required. There was little need for a "look at me" moment because the track was enhanced and strongly supported by his cohesiveness.
How do you not mention Neil Peart?
Because he's not one of his favorites?
@@duaneshank6788Neil Peart was the best.
I have no idea ….
He’s too progressive.
Too good to be compared with the rest
Tré Cool is definitely one of the greatest drummers of all time

@@dani_i8942 TC is one of the greats. Seethe someone else
I was standing behind Lars at a Metallica concert in Frankfurt 1:46 Germany where they had the stage in the middle of the venue and you could walk all around the stage, and they were doing the build up for the solo in “One.”
Lars was actually standing up using the double bass drum pedals. I was about 6 feet away from him. It was pretty impressive to see.
Wow i totally agree with Billie talking about Lars
Tré's voice could do a perfect voice in the Simpson xD
Tré cool that he mentioned Meg.
Neil Peart is forever the greatest drummer and lyricist to have graced the planet…rest easy, legend. 🙏🏻♥️
Stewart Copeland
@@Danny-id3fe Dave Weckl
@@Danny-id3fe Fantastic drummer, he deserves to be mentioned more.
@@Dave_Ger I know he does and I’m 19

Stewart Copeland is a fantastic drummer
People getting mad at the lack of Neil Peart mention but you have to understand in order to listen to his drumming you have to listen to Rush songs & most people don't want to do that 😅
Finally some Lars love! Howard, BJA, and Tre all gave great insight.
Ringo could play very specific stuff that "showier" drummers might struggle with
Jose Pasillas from Incubus is one of my all time favorite drummers. Huge inspiration from Jose.
Vastly underrated.
Lars is the Ringo of Metal. And I mean that as an absolute compliment.
Ringo is an amazing drummer. Lars actually isn't a good drummer mainly because he clearly doesn't practice.
@@billysuter nonsense. Lars is a very good drummer.
No, he absolutely isn't. Ringo was incredibly creative, Lars isn't.
@@pandadoublexlLars is very important as a producer and composer. Different way to contribute to the band...
@@faustomadebr Neither of those things would make him the Ringo of metal.
To drum with those killer bands you have to be a force of nature. All the ons mentioned are virtually superhuman. Moon still raises eyebrows being such a complete nut and translating it into his playing. Cool interview
Neil Peart
Its a joke leavin Neil Out by any.mean
Any top drummer list that does not include Neil Peart is just ignorance.
That's a very good point. Listen to Mitch Mitchell on "Are You Experienced" and how his drumming serves those songs perfectly.
Love this! Talking about Lars and sticking up for him!
Lars is a musical genius ngl, and has almost come up with some of the best drum parts of all time
Carter Beauford need to be on these lists
He's a stock conservatory drummer.
Neil Peart. Had everything. Danny Carey second with his creativity
Agree
Embarrassing choice. Clyde Stubblefield and it’s not close!
@@HonestSoulGuyThey're both great! 😃
@@HonestSoulGuy huh?
My vote too.
I loved Ringo’s drumming in Come Together, it’s very innovative for th time
All of my favourite drummers serve the song. Lars does this. He also cowrites all of the songs, so there’s that.
Stephen Morris - Joy DIvision / New Order
Jimmy Chamberlin - Smashing Pumpkins
I love Ringo and Meg White too. Oh, and Lars
Love it. Some many laughs in this one. And Lars is awesome.
I knew he was gonna say Ringo!
George Hurley…playing jazz stylie in the Minutemen and fIREHOSE. Pure fast tight hihat sickness
Didn’t suspect anyone would mention Hurley in this post. Absolutely phenomenal and underrated.
No question it’s Neil Peart. And not even close
Danny Carey is the greatest drummer living today...
The Professor
There is OnLy one Professor on the Drum Kit
Ringo played the part as it was meant. Beatles songs are only Beatles songs when he is playing on them.
It’s not a competition.
It’s just music.
Neil Peart! 🥁 Come on people!
Meg White, hell yes!
Neil Peart, Danny Carey, Chris Adler, Joey Jordison, John Bonham
Peart
Ringo was the drummer in the Beatles. That beats everything when it’s all said and done.
Rush drummer for me.Biased Canadian here eh LOL.
NEIL = GOD
Only real musicians compliment Lars, tells you a lot about the online criticism he gets 😂
Because the online community are morons. I saw Metallica in August and Lars was 6 feet away from me, he plays with more energy than most drummers I’ve seen
They also probably have to interact with him sometimes personally...
@@jd0879100% True.

John Bonham. Buddy Rich. Art Blakey. Neal Peart. Danny Carrey. Carter Bauford. Matt Cameron. Stewart Copeland. Jeff Porcaro. In no particular order. Some of my faves🤘. "Greatest of all time" is a hard one to place.

@@kristopherryanwatson Yep. He is great too. I could probably add more if I sat and thought about it harder lol. Dennis Chambers another one. They just keep popping in there hehe.
Outside of Jazz the Rev from avenged sevenfold is my GOAT. Unbelievably athletic, technically, and creative and he made it look easy.

Would love to hear the story of when Tré first met Ringo!
Tre is my favorite drummer
100% agree. if you don't and you are a musician, please ask your most respected drummer friend the same question and see what he/she says.
Alex Pelletier, Carter Beauford and The Rev are my three favorites
"Wild" Mick Brown!
The answer is Neil Peart tho.
Neil Peart, Keith Moon and John Bonham are the correct answers.
There are others of course that should be in the conversation.
Bill Bruford
and
Neil Peart
The Beatles forever!
I thought he might give a mention to John Wright from NoMeansNo, as he has done in the past.
0:35 reportedly when Tre joined GD he was throwing in a bunch of fills rather than playing the song and GD almost broke up because of it.
Patrick Carney
Roger Taylor from Queen and Rick Allen from Def Leppard are up there for me. Rick if only because he learned to adapt to his disability and gave Def Leppard a unique sound.
Ringo was definetely the most inventive rock drummer that ever lived. If you want to see how good he was when he could still listen their own music before the screaming girls, watch him at the Washington Coliseum show in 64 and hear him at the star club in december of 62, in Hamburg
Then watch John Bonham aged 20 at the Royal Albert Hall.
You know... everyone has their favorites. Ringo is a great choice. And I don't know why everyone gets so upset by the Meg White shoutout either.
Jordy Samolesky from Propagandhi
Gavin Harrison.
The reason why Tre loves Ringo is why I love Tre.
Keith Moon
Keith Moon, Meg White, Mo Tucker
neil peart ?......🤔
Ringo was actually a really, really good drummer. Listen carefully to all his beats and you'll know.
Neil Peart, Mike Portnoy and Mike Mangini!!

How about Dennis Chambers? He's pretty excellent.
And i think guitarists definitely forget they are playing a song.
Meg White??!?!?? OH YES, TRÉ, GOOD ANSWER, REALLY GOOD ANSWER!! GREAT
Mike Dirnt nails it: "extremely musical"
Vinnie C, Terry Bozzio , Stanton Moore...they know the drums.
If Metallica were big in the 70s - lars would ABSOLUTELY be on every greatest drummer list. Without question. For some reason we forgive sloppiness if the band is from 50 years ago - but not now.
John Henry Bonham.
And yea, I wrote Henry just to enforce my argument.
Anyway - not to make this argumentative or biased, let me just say: it's still John Henry "Bonzo" Bonham.
HA! gotcha. Ringo rules too, ngl.
Neil Peart????
I’m surprised Howard didn’t somehow squeeze Jimi Hendrix’s name into that conversation
Neil Peart is the obvious answer of THE BEST ! 🤘
Phil Collins was better.
Bonham.
Alot of great drummers but the best of all time is Buddy Rich. There's nothing that any drummer does now, that Buddy didn't do decades ago.
tré cool means very cool in french😂🤣😂
Danny Carrey
Rings played drums backwards. He was gifted
Hi Mackenziewilber good morning thanks for your lovely words, where are you from?
Not one mention of Peart the goat.
Ringo, Charlie Watts, Hal Blaine
I'd have to name Jimmy Chamberlain as one of my favourite drummers.
And they're touring with him this year. 🤦
The best with Carey!
Yes!!!
