  • Regimental Sergeant Major James Teitge speaks to us about his 37.5 years in South African Special Forces. He was the longest-serving member in Special Forces history starting in 1978 and ending in 2014 when he went on pension. During his career, he went on many operations, spectacular ones, often as a team leader. Later he became the RSM of 5 Recce and so much more. A man that completed 53 courses and an instructor in many, i.e. parachuting (where he also holds national colours).
In this episode, he speaks of small team operations. That is reconnaissance missions with two- or four-men teams far behind enemy lines without any support whatsoever. A fascinating conversation. If you have questions for the RSM please leave them below. Please subscribe and activate the bell to be informed of new episodes.

These stories told in an offhand manner are just incredible. Life in Africa truly is very different to anything our American or overseas friends will understand. The story of the operator walking after the croc attack is both remarkable and amusing.

Brilliant as always.. Most interesting part 2day was about the small teams.. Seems to me. To be special forces operator is as good as being a professor... Or PhD. Is a variety of subjects. Excellent work keep it going.. I. Love these chats...

There is a similar podcast by Rhodesians which I also excellent, and as they say, it is important to document or speak about these events and get them on the record, before they get lost in history. So thankyou Koos and all the ex soldiers on your show for sharing their life experiences.

An excellent series that of the Rhodesians. Sometimes, especially with Special Forces, they talk of the same operations. Really nice. Koos

Hallo Koos. Ek dink jy kan ook small team inligting eerstehands kry by Thys de Villiers beter bekend as kaalvoet Thysie. Hy was n legende.

RSM Teitge, was a true warrior and Recce, not these wannabee guys.
