  • Probably the best audio upgrade you can do to your Prius.
    Swapping out the Dash Speakers made the biggest change compared to the front door 6x9's and rear door 6.5"s speakers. Sound is much more crisper and louder.

    Thanks a million for making this video. I know nothing about stereos, cars, etc but did it just by watching you do it first. The only thing that I got stuck on was that your speakers had long wires to solder onto while mine didn't come with that. These speakers are worth 80 bucks in my opinion so 30 was a steal. Thanks again

    Excellent guide. yours is the only help I could find as a "how to" for the panel removal. I ended up using the same JBL speakers as you and replacing the stock cap with 100uF Muse audio grade BP. I did need to grind out the old protrusions on the grilles with a grinder. Great sound and no L-pad needed!

    Thanks for the vid. I just popped in two of the Infinity version of these speakers (look identical) and fit snug and the grilles pop in and sort of lock them down fairly well, so didn't need to rig hardware. Sounds great with stock door speakers - big change for small expense. Appreciate the detail you took and showed.

      Were you able to bolt the infinity speakers down and what model number were they? Bolting them down is important because the magnet is inside a small enclosure to get mid/low range frequency response if don’t use a capacitor to eliminate mid or bass freqs

    I did this exact upgrade using the stock HU, but I'm really not happy with the result. The dash speakers are really overpowering and I barely get any decent bass output. The sound is quite tinny even though I set the treble to minimum on the HU. I even have a small kenwood powered subwoofer installed but still the dash speakers are all I can hear basically. Yeah, my 2015 speakers sound ridiculously staticy and I'm guessing it's these speakers. But looking at your other video replacing the door speakers they both look like really cheap dry paper. 10:55 man your Prius sounds pretty throaty! Definitely easier to replace these than I thought they might be. Thanks for the video! I'll probably go with a Rockford Fosgate R1675-S Prime Series 6-3/4" Component Speaker System from Crutchfield that comes with a free install kit for the connectors and mounting brackets. Not high end speakers but only like 100 bucks and a lot of good reviews saying it's way better than the stock speakers. Just can't decide if I really care enough to spend the time and money!

    Hold off on changing anything based on what I said. I took my stock speaker out and Toyota has the capacitor on the negative side too. Not sure why yet. I ordered a polarity tester to see if the stock dash speakers are intentionally wired backwards (or out of phase) sometimes this is done based on the distance between the woofer and the tweeter. I’ll report back when I know for sure.

    • @80sluv67
      @80sluv67 Před 4 lety +1

      Just a follow up. I couldn’t get the polarity tester because the shipper said he’s having issues shipping to US from China right now. So I wound up just hooking up some Memphis PRX27 2.75” mids the same way you did and putting two way MTX terminators 6x9’s (I actually have a 2012 Highlander) in the front doors and Terminator 2 way 6.5” in the back doors. Initially it was a little bright but I was able to adjust the EQ on my Pioneer Appradio4 and now it’s great. Went with a Rockville DB14 1,000 watt rms amp (ridiculously good amp for $150, but stay away from their subs) after watching an amp test on CZcams and a Phoenix Gold SXt d2 10” sub in a ported box wired to one 2ohm voicecoil. Sounds phenomenal now. I’ve actually been building stereos for 20 years and never have had such loud and clear highs as I do with this config. Thanks again for the vid. Saved me cash and helped me pull the trigger on what size to put in the dash!
