      Currently the two works that I've done are on Amazon US, one was just recently released (Assassins Game/ served as Principle DP). The other is my first feature film from 5 years ago (Project E.1337/ Wrote and Directed, 2nd DP), but I have to say that I'm disappointed with how the distribution company mislead audiences with its posters and tampered with the original sound mix and color grading. I am waiting for their contract to be completed so I can re-releasing the original version. Here are the trailers you can see of those films and links to their Amazon page.

      I'm happy to hear you enjoy the format of my reviews. I was not aware of the Sokani X180, I did a quick google and it looks like it's not available in the states just yet. We'll see if Sokani reaches out again for me to take a look at this x180 (most likely around 150w class LED chip, not 180w) The whole x80 number instead of x60 is sly marketing language to make it sound like its more powerful.
      The design of X180 looks solid, hoping they put in better fans to try and cool down that heatsink since traditionally the Sokani's have a more mechanical wrrr sound.
      We'll see if I can get a review unit for you all!

    I think Forza 60 was always meant to be a small specialty light in the Nanlite lineup - and then the smaller proprietary mount starts to make a lot more sense, as it allows for considerably smaller, often cheaper and high quality specialty attachments like a projection attachment and a proper fresnel with barndoors. When you start calculating the cost of a properly good projection attachment and fresnel for Bowens mount and then add to it the fact that not every light with Bowens mount works well with every Bowens mount fresnel or projection unit, having a small, high quality light that is carefully matched to such attachments makes quite a bit of sense.

    This video is just about at the right time for me since I'm contemplating to buy a pair of SL 60 from Godox. It just reassures me.
    One other company making great Bowens mount LED's is Jinbei I got a 100W from them already but they are harder to find on E-Bay...
    Jinbei also have a 60W version which can go from the electric outlet but also can incorporate a pair of NP970 Sony battery

Hopefully we starting seeing more interesting COB LED's make their way to markets. Mainly more Bi-color ones without shadow issues and eventually RGB too!

      @@TLDR_filmmaker Yeah Bowens mount COB led's are great, especially when the fan's are silent enough :-). I used fluorescent bulbs before them 4 or 5 85-125W in a softbox was also nice but not dimmable no hard light option only soft, and they were a nightmare to carry to locations. These small LED's are a lot better even the non battery versions. Thanks for the great video, I really appreciate your work!!!

    Thanks for ur super helpful videos. Do you have a shootout for 150w cob lights? I’m looking to buy a light which is strong enough to be a key light and my only light. And strong enough to light up a large softbox well enough to light up a space for 3 people. I’ve been considering the godox 150, but it’s not rechargeable. Could these 60w lights be enough, or as my only light I should be going for a 150w? If so, what dyou reccomend?

      Hey hey Benton!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      They will still be where they need to be as your cameras color profile is generally programed to pull the skin colors towards the line. With LED's the longer you use them they will shift towards green slowly. So at some point these X60's will color accurate lol.

      @@TLDR_filmmaker Thanks for your reply! It would be a great test to have a reviewer ; ) leave the Sokani on and check its color every day or so, until the magenta shift is neutralized. Will it take longer than $100 worth of electricity to correct them? Does it take longer than a couple of weeks of burn in? Is there a limit or plateau to how green an LED can get? Maybe the Sokani once burned in to neutral will hold its color better than the Nanlite Forza 60 which will shift towards green away from neutral?

    Hi, thanks for the review, really like you videos, already subscribed /i have two questions. 1. for the laofas parabolic softbox, whats the difference between 35inch and 47 inch? does light going to be softer if the softbox is more deeper? /2. Godox SL60w with softbox and neewer 660 led panel light with softbox, which one has better quality light in general, thanks in advance. have a good day.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Před 4 lety +2

      Hey hey Chris!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      The 47" softbox will give the softer light, not because its deeper, but because the 47" means how round it is (Diameter). The larger your illuminated source is, the softer the light becomes on someone because the light has the opportunity to wrap past structures that can create shadows. Think of the difference of you sitting in front of a large screen TV in the dark vs a tiny LED flashlight pointing at you. The little LED will just light up your face and give you that horror film look with the shadows, but the large 60' TV from the same distance will blast light all over you and your face will look more pleasant than hard shadows.
      The Godox SL60 with the softbox will give the better light than the 660 with a softbox, this is because the Godox has much more light output power at "daylight" than the 660. And because you are going to illuminate a large surface, you want as much power behind it as you can to really light it up.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Glad to hear this video was helpful! Unfortunately I probably won't be doing live subject skin tone tests because of my skin naturally leaning more to the darker tones and haven't reached to the levels of other reviewers where they have model subjects to work with. However if you take a look at the color charts on a laptop or larger screen. The Skin chips on the left side of the chart will give you a wider scope of different skin types so you can see how they look compared to the other lights.
      The only thing I would personally do, this differs depending on the creative, when using the Sokani for skins, you'll probably want to up the saturation a tiiiny bit on the skin tones to give it more richness, and then depending on the subject and your personal taste, you may push the Hue of the skin tones more to yellow or red.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Před 3 lety

      Hey hey again dutch4motion!
      The power supply is built right into the light itself and does not use a traditional DC barrel for power. However, if one is savvy with circuitry, I'm sure you can take a look at the board and see where the DC is being converted and create a way for DC voltage from a battery to power it. The only major obstacle that will stand in your way is a Battery Management Chip that won't ruin your battery type. Definitely would be an interesting project for someone to tackle, converting non-battery operated lights to battery one. That being said, some people just start using camping generators for certain set's. Easier to just plug lights in on location, no need for an army of V-mount batteries. Just depends on how the crew likes to work.

      That is odd, I would think that D-taps were rated at 14.4v, which should be find for the Forza operating at 15v. Unless a fully charged Tanaka Battery d-tap exceeds 15v by a good margin causing the Forza to fry. If you have a multimeter could you take a measurement of the D-tap at full charge to see whats going on?

      Hey hey again Jimmy and Tamás!
      While I haven't personally put it through the test, the Nanlite was able to last approx 1.5 hours at full brightness. I suspect the Sokani will be near the same as they are identical in terms of their internal built and power requirements.
      As for the power adapter cable not being long enough (the DC end). Some people will use Paracord and find a way to create a loop so that you can hang it off of a light stand twist knob. Thats probably the easiest way to go, if you are savvy with a soldering iron you can splice more wire length to it and extend it. The final option is one I'm not too certain with if it would be a good idea. You could potentially buy DC male and female plugs and create your own plug in extension. The only thing is you gotta make sure whatever wires gauge you use is similar to the one coming out of the power brick so that your extension wire does not overheat.
      Hope this helps!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Před 4 lety

      Hey hey again John!
      It is a bit hard to compare as they are in different classes of LED output. But essetnaially, these 60w sit in-between the 20D and 120D in terms of output. Color quality wise, until I can get a 120D, you will have to cross reference other reviewers to see if they also shoot a test chart and hopefully provide vector scope reading to see where the colors shift off to. For the most part, the 120w class is a very nice multiple purpose LED for id days 80% of shooting situations. The 300d is the major all-rounder for someone that doesn't know what shooting situation they may be in. The 60w class is for the creator that always has good control of the lighting in the room no matter where they go. From there they can use a set of 60w and craft the look they need in conjunction with their camera settings.
      The 20D are fun accent lights to give dimension for a lighting setup, I probably wouldn't use it as a principle key light. Hope this helps!

      Hey hey Rohit!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      In my opinion based on your setup, I do not think a 60w would be enough, you may want to go to a higher class LED like the Godox SL150 just to give you wiggle room. However this may be a moment for you to determine what you may want to do in the future because if you will want to try other types of videos or lighting up larger diffusion curtains, you may want to start looking at the 300w class of LEDs. The reason I say this is because of your lens having a variable aperture, you may have moments you want the aperture to by smaller.
      These are just my thoughts based on the information you've given me and how I would approach my purchasing with those desired settings. Hope this helps!

      If you are looking between the two, the Godox will be cheaper overall (last I checked) and provide a good light. They are basically the same thing. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of this idea of shrinking the 60w to these sizes with a proprietary bowens mount. They are great for a small portable setup, but if you plan to just use these in a home studio where you always have power, I feel its better to just get the older Godox SL60w saving a decent amount of cost. But if portability is your main concern, then I would just go with the one that is cheapest as performance from what I've seen so far are very similar in this 60w class between the ML60 and Forza 60. Yup, thats exactly what you'd need to do if you want to get something closer to Tungsten or to correct for Green/Magenta tint, or just getting a different color all together. Just remember the most saturated you want your color, the thicker in color the gel needs to be, which in turn lowers your overall output. Each color will behave differently in terms of max color output.

      I choose to use 6ft as my distance of choice because a 3ft distance is only good for a medium close up shot where as some filmmakers may need to know if they can light a shoot wider than that. In my theory I feel its better to know a lights potential at a further distance to better judge the use cases available for a variety of shots. I'm still trying to determine if there is a finite way to convert Lux readings to know if a certain light is technically bright enough for the camera lens and settings you wish to use for a certain shot. Once I figure that out and make it simple, then these tests will be much more meaningful with lux numbers.

      Hey hey Jimmy!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      You're not wrong if we talk about power draw of the entire unit. But that gets really iffy to try and based a lights ability off of that number. It's more accurate to compare them by the the LED chips watt output rating of 60.
      The reason I say this is because if you were to have a really really inefficient 60w chip that requires 100w of power draw to reach the same max brightness as these three. You can't really try and market to people that its a 100w light when it produces the same brightness of another light that draws 80w. There are misleading marketing tactics that will use the power draw numbers instead of the actual watt output of the LED. This is why I say the Sokani is a 60w LED, not an 80w. Theres a lot more to this because of the efficiency conversion of a 120v AC to get down to the 15v DC in the powerbrick that then gets further converted to the LED chips 24-30v DC (usually) needs.
      Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      I probably won't be reviewing the GVM 800, at least not a traditional video review. I got quite a few questions between the GVM 800 RGB vs the Neewer 660 RGB that I reviewed. Long story short, the Neewer is most likely going to be brighter as it has more LED diodes in RGB, and Tungsten and Daylight, compared to the GVM. The GVM would probably last longer in its battery life because of having less LED's to power. Build quality is probably about the same, both with mental construction through I think the GVM's barndoors look like plastic to me. Feature set, they are the same with their app control etc.

      You're most welcome!
      I'm cheating in that I have answered this before so I'm going to copy and paste from a previous viewer, hope this helps!
      There are more practical cheaper solutions for a green screen that I would recommend, a LED panel like this is a bit overkill on the budget for what you get out of it in terms of lighting a green screen. I would suggest getting something like this: amzn.to/2KtAoct (You'll need to buy its own light stand) and I use these LED light bulbs: czcams.com/video/p-rDtf2Jra8/video.html (Or you can purchase different more powerful ones)
      This setup gives you a softbox thats larger than this square softbox for the LED panels, it also gives you much more light output than the 660s can give. And at the end of the day, for less than the price of one panel and softbox you are able to light up the entire green screen. The reason I would go this route is because chances are your green screen, once it's setup, isn't going anywhere. The 660 panels have other features do not apply for the green screen, so you'd be wasting money on that vanity. Of course you can mix and match, instead of having a bunch of 660s, you can use the cheaper softbox to light the green screen and then use the 660s as lights to light yourself. But, even then, if the green screen is going to be setup in its own space, I would just continue with the softbox route for lighting yourself. LED panels are more or less meant for portability between your studio and a film set. If your studio is the film set, then I would just save the money so that you can get more lights, more power, work on the content, and then eventually invest in something more expensive if needed. But for the most part, a green screen setup is pretty much left stationary and never really changes.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey hey Carlos!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      I was actually asked to review the Godox ML60, but unfortunately I had to decline because of two major reason. They followed the Nanlight Forza 60 design and price range, which to me is not worth the investment for a 60w cob light with a proprietary bowens mount that requires an additional adapter just to use normal bowens modifiers. Godox would have easily won the 60w battery if they simply improved the design of the old SL60w and added battery options, but instead they choose this route that does not support cohesion with their other lineups with the 100-150-200-300. The price point also coming in at over twice the cost of the original 60w does not sit well just for battery operation.
      I did give them my thoughts on not to go forward with this design concept, because it doesn't make sense to the customer who may already have other godox lights. But I guess they told me about it when the units were already in production.
      I'm sure the light performs well, possibly the fan noise may be louder as they need to move to a smaller fan. But for the price point and locking someone into a system at almost $300 compared to $130, there are other ways and options to get a 60w into your kit. Aputure will be coming out with their 60w soon, I look forward to seeing how they compete in the 60w space and at what price point justification.

This is a bit of a marketing intentional mis-information to make it sound like it's more powerful when it's only 100lx or so brighter which doesn't quite equate to having 20 more extra watts. If you look at an Apurture 120d, its a 120w class LED, but uses about 150w or power to operate. They don't market it as a 150w light.

    The sokani is not a 60 watt light its 80

      Hey hey again Stephen!
      The 80w classification is actually just misleading advertising language. The LED chip itself is a 60w class chip while the entire system requires 80w to run. So saying its a 80w light makes it sound like its more powerful when its not. Aperture 300d actually uses close to 350w of power, but they do not advertise it as such because the LED chip is a 300w class chip. Hope this makes sense.

      @@TLDR_filmmaker interesting. So power draw is 80. What is the power draw of the other two?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  Před 3 lety

      Most likely nearly the same. The extra power draw is for the power brick to convert the AC voltage to DC.

      Im not sure I agree with that because of how I tested them against each other in the same conditions and then recommended each one based on certain criteria of how someone would use them and what situations would match that selection. Godox was the value selection at the sacrifice of Battery performance, Sokani was the odd one out in terms of colors, but the skin tones lined up so it may not matter + battery power ability, Nanlite only made sense for the studio owner that is making a large investment into a grip kit for the company.
      I didn't say one was vastly superior over the others and that filmmakers should not consider the others. But if you believe this means I wasn't being objective taking into account someones specific situation and needs instead of arguing that one completely beats out the others... then all I'm going to say is, "Yes, I do know the Guac is extra."
