Gift Leremi was so talented, I remember growing up idolising him to a point I wrote "Leremi 7" on the back of my shirt and I'd wear that shirt every time before I'd play street football. He was a complete player. Had a powerful shot from both feet, dribbled past defenders so easily and I do believe he would've played in the biggest leagues in Europe. Could've been a big superstar and made a name for himself during the 2010 Fifa World Cup and could have easily became one of S.A's greatest players.

Around '98 Gift was a student at Azara Secondary School, in Lenasia. Used to see him running, had speed in the ground. Never knew he'd make it that far. He had pace!

Yeah man, spoke to Mamello that evening, I think around 7pm...I had met Gift in Pretoria before they flew out to Sfax...Gift and I knew Sfax well having travelled with Orlando Pirates the year before...so I was at Kickoff and he had agreed to do an interview with me on Monday. I had Mello's number of off course...Mello said , "He will be here around 8pm...we watch Generations together,". I called at 9pm...Mello didn't respond. I woke up to the news of his passing...what a sad day. Gift Leremi, may his sould rest in peace. Strength to Mello. #OneLove

Great episode. Lots of lessons can be learnt by professional soccer players from this experience. Don’t just buy funeral policies. Buy good investments, shares on the JSE, rental properties, bank deposits and education funds for your children. These will produce income after the playing days are over. Stay away from taverns!
