    I have literally listened to this album over the thousand times. It was on repeat for months, I couldn't get enough of it. On the tour for the album Empire, the next one, they performed this album in it's entirety. A video called Operation Livecrime is out for all to enjoy. It is still truly one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen. I'm over 50 now and been watching concerts since I was 16 so I've seen a lot of them.

    I love this album...every single track, in my opinion, has been composed using passion and deliberate precision...no fillers. I've always been a huge fan of concept albums, and Operation: Mindcrime delivers the goods as far as I'm concerned...feeling, perhaps, even more relatable today than ever giving the current state of unrest. Happy to join you on your journey of experiencing it for the first time. Keep rockin', brother 🤘
    Edit:
    I'd love to see you react to more conceptual albums in their entirety. I Am Abomination's Passion Of The Heist 2 is one record I'd be very interested in seeing you react to.

      I saw the same show
      This was my introduction to Queensryche. Like everyone else who listened to them for the first time heard a great band but above the band was the lead singer Geoff Tate.
      I saw the show in November of 1988 at the San Diego Sports Arena
      My first major concert was a few months before on June 10th 1988.
      Walking home from school with my best friend, we get home and his sister's friend Jamie, looks over his front yard fence and says to us -"you guys aren't seeing Guns and Roses tonight". She told us that it had something to do with Axle Rose. Obviously the first of his many control antics before they were to perform.
      She says -"you guys are getting L.A. Guns instead"
      I looked at her and said this...."Fuck Guns and Rose!! I'm going to see IRON MAIDEN!!"!!!
      They remained my favorite band up until I saw RUSH for the first time on the 96-97 Test For Echo tour
      Anyways that's one of my favorite memories as young teen

    Re communism and everybody being "equal", that certainly doesn't sound like a bad thing on its face...the problem becomes what you have to do to MAKE everybody equal - it quickly becomes an end justifies the means scenario, and not only does the road to this imagined utopia quickly become paved with abuse and authoritarian control of the population you're supposed to help, but it also becomes necessary to continue committing more and more abuse and exercising more and more control to preserve the system that's been established. And then the controllers inevitably stray from the vision of true equality and grant themselves privileges not available to the masses, and you end up with even worse inequality that was present under capitalism.

    So, so glad to cross a reactor doing this whole LP from start to finish. I think that's awesome. Such gives context, meaning, and an understanding that "concept" albums arguably, are meant to be looked at as one whole piece (just my opinion) instead of being broken down into seperate pieces that just breed confusion for the listener. At least, for those music fans that care enough to dig into the lyrics of a song, looking for it's "message," or "meaning." A tip of the cap to you my friend. You've just garnered another "sub." But, I personally consider this LP to be a musical/art masterpiece.

    Communism, as a philosophy, is meant to be the ultimate in equity and fairness to all. Everyone is on an equal playing field for all aspects of life: wages, cost of living, health care, etc and it's all controlled and regulated 100% by the government; a completely Classless society. The problem, as is the problem with any and all forms of government on this planet, there are always those who want more than their share. Leading to corruption and mistreatment of others.
    Capitalism is also a philosophy, some have characterized as the opposite end of the spectrum from Communism. Interestingly, it has the same inherent potential flaws as Communism, and it all boils down to greed and the hunger for political power and control.
    As you listen to this album, you'll hear things that remind you of the events of today's world, but from the perspective of the mid-Eighties. Which just shows that, it's the same basic game with different players. Nicky's story (as played by Geoff Tate) is sad, but all too common to varying degrees. I'll be interested to hear your take on the other characters and singer on this album.

    Awesome! Such an epic album. :) As someone who grew up a rightwinger and is now a democratic socialist, the problem with Communism was that it has only ever been used as a slogan by people who want to seize power, for its own sake. Similarly, one of the most influential critics of Communism was George Orwell, the author of 1984 and Animal Farm, who was a literally militant democratic socialist who fought on the side of the Republicans in the Spanish Civil War.
    As for those who say "blah blah bread lines blah blah" that has nothing to do with Communism - that's lack of democracy and a free press as a curb against corruption and an out of control military-industrial complex. The former Soviet Union was spending 20% of their GDP on the military. It doesn't matter if you have a capitalist or communist nation, wasting that much on the military during peacetime will cause massive shortages.
    In the next one there is a reference to "seven years of power...the rich control the government, the media, the law" which is a reference to this coming out near the end of the Reagan admin with Reagan's grip on the establishment media thanks to his Hollywood contacts. Though I used to support the right, looking back it is all too clear Reagan was setting the stage for the resurgence of fascism that produced the Trump administration.

    Two quick points: First, I think my favorite part about 'Revolution Calling' is with every chorus, the backing vocals grow in number, representing the growing "revolution." Secondly, a piece of useless trivia: the music for 'Anarchy X' was originally written as the title track for their previous album, "Rage For Order," but was never used. In fact, you can go on CZcams and search for 'Rage For Order Demo' and hear the low-production demo of the song. Personally, I wish QR would go in and remaster it because it's a GREAT song, but I won't complain how things turned out ;)

    My thoughts (and feelings i am sure) are completely aligned with yours. The way you absorbed that was very healthy. When I was younger, I was more like you, emotionally wise. Try to stay that way. You are more effective in teaching & learning by being curious & humble... along with being honestly excited from stimulating sounds which appropriately accommodate provoking and/or stirring lyrics.
    i was 19 and in the U.S. Army, stationed in what was then... West Germany (87-90). I saw The Berlin Wall come down (mostly metaphorically) in One Marvelous Short Day... with no warnings that everything was going to suddenly change for the better. Suddenly, those of whom i was told to be Pinko Commies in every action movie released in my teen years (the 80's)... Red Dawn, Rocky IV, Rambo.
    That R-sound of the 80's was to sound like a Ready, growling dog.... Ready for the Rooskies. That was back when Reagan was president.
    I will share my ideas about communism with you later (soon hopefully). I got to get to my Saturday. I subscribed to your channel. In anycase, i hope God blesses your heart today.

    According to Engels in The Principles of Communism : 1) Communism is the doctrine of the conditions of the liberation of the proletariat.
    2)The proletariat is that class in society which lives entirely from the sale of its labor and does not draw profit from any kind of capital; whose weal and woe, whose life and death, whose sole existence depends on the demand for labor - hence, on the changing state of business, on the vagaries of unbridled competition. The proletariat, or the class of proletarians, is, in a word, the working class.

    • @brunobernsau
      @brunobernsau Před 3 lety +1

      As Marx put it, “It is not the consciousness of men that determines their existence, but, on the contrary, their social existence that determines their consciousness. At a certain stage of their development, the material productive forces in society come in conflict with the existing relations of production, or,-what is but a legal expression for the same thing-with the property relationships within which they have been at work before. From forms of development of the productive forces, these relationships turn into their fetters. Then comes the period of social revolution. With the change of the economic foundation the entire immense superstructure is more or less rapidly transformed.”

    • @brunobernsau
      @brunobernsau Před 3 lety +1

      The fetters of capitalism could be broken only by the class representing the new technique; such a class was the proletariat. It was the destiny of this class to erect a new system of production, Communism, of which the first transitional phase was the Dictatorship of the Proletariat.

    • @brunobernsau
      @brunobernsau Před 3 lety +1

      The Dictatorship of the Proletariat is a transition regime whose sole function is to destroy the ruling classes under capitalism throughout the world. It is, therefore, a regime fitted to meet the stress and strain of international civil war. When the exigencies of the civil war are over, the Dictatorship of the Proletariat will give way to socialism, which is the first and lower stage of communism.

    • @brunobernsau
      @brunobernsau Před 3 lety +1

      Under socialism, there are no longer a market, commodities, values, prices, wages, in the old sense of the terms. The workers, through their representatives, guide their own destinies and organize themselves so that international production may be purposefully controlled and planfully managed. The allocation of material and workers to a particular industry is made, not according to the hectic fluctuations of the market, through bankruptcy and frenetic successes, but by social analysis of the needs of man, of the productivity of the workers, and of how much strength is needed to fulfill these needs. For the first time, society rises from the domain of necessity into the realm of freedom.

    • @brunobernsau
      @brunobernsau Před 3 lety +1

      In the higher stage of social life to which socialism is a transition and which we can call communism in the narrow sense of the term, the transformation is entirely complete. Society has become regenerated. No longer does the rule prevail, “to each according to what he does,” but rather the precept, “from each according to his ability and to each according to his needs. The tremendously increased productivity of mankind will have reduced to a bare minimum the amount of time necessary for each to produce the wants of life.

    So far, so good...you've got the story pretty much nailed so far. There are a few details that you've either misread or missed, but I will say no more. You'll be glad to know that the plot for this concept album is much easier to follow than "Scenes From A Memory" was...this album isn't written in a way that keeps you in the dark. Instead, it's more like you're watching the story unfold as a flashback, as the first song suggests.
    Communism (and it's precurser, socialism) is a Utopian political theory where there is supposedly no government, and everything is owned equally by everyone. Unfortunately, every attempt to implement this worldview has resulted in the deaths of large groups of people, most notably the over 10 million people who died under Josef Stalin in the USSR. Rather than give you an extended political lesson, let me sum up by stating that communism and capitalism are fundamentally incompatible. China has come the closest to merging the two systems, but their government is still ultimately in control of everything, and its people still live in fear and oppression.
    I'm glad you're enjoying this so far...looking forward to reliving my first exposure to this amazing album through your eyes!
    God bless!!

    And you will hear the more melodic mastery of Tate’s voice later. QR is like Rush, me and my buds told everyone to listen to them before they got attention.

    Utopian Communism is about everyone getting an equal share. Communism as Marx wrote about it was economics - the workers owning the factories and farms rather than oligarchs or the state. It's a nice idea, and you can see it in worker owned businesses, but politically it always turns into an authoritarian state where freedoms are curtailed. The song is more the manifesto of someone who thinks everything he's been told is B.S.
    But, hey, he's heard of Dr. X! The man with the cure! Nothing can go wrong.

    Such a great album which you, preferably, have to listen in one go. I bought it in the early nineties.
    Eyes of a stranger, is my favorite song.
    Live Evolution is a great live concert.
    Promised land. Empire. Are great albums too but not as good as this one; mainly because this is a concept album.

    Everybody's not equal some people work harder than others some are more ambitious than others who take risks to start businesses,for better lives so it doesn't make sense for the less hard working and ambitious to get equal benefits and pay as of the harder working.

    Marx never explained how his version of communism should work AND that some people will always take advantage. Capitalism (original capitalism) bakes it into the cake.

    You should delve into the true definition of communism but in a nutshell I personally think what is so negative is that you don't get to choose what you do to make that equal pay is that a lot of your freedoms of choice are made for you
