  • Chong Khneas is a Floating Village located on the Tonle Sap lake, Siem Reap Province in Cambodia. The majority of Chong Nies floating village residents are descendants of immigrants from Vietnam who have lived and settled for a long time, and many were even born in Cambodia.
However, even though they were born and raised in Cambodia, it turns out that not all of them have an official identity as Cambodian citizens. Cambodian law does not grant land ownership rights to those who are not Cambodian citizens.
Because they do not own land, these immigrants are forced to build a house on the Tonle Sap lake. Because of the large number of immigrants who made houses on this lake, a settlement was formed called Chong Khneas Floating Village.
They are not recognized as Cambodian citizens, making it difficult for these immigrants to get jobs and better education.
