I have been watching you for nearly the whole build and i think the colour would look good with the edges in the same colour as the car and the insert the same colour as the intereior
Found your channel when looking at your Astra power steering hack and have now binge'd most of your stuff. I love the overall attention to detail. Looking forward to seeing the laser cut sections for the tray. I'd go with the strongest pressure struts they have because they do slowly lose pressure over time (especially in the elements) I'd also consider a manual lock for the tray hold down because if it flipped up driving you could rip the whole backend off...Just keep up the great work. Hope to see the finished product down the track!!
Hey Mate thankyou. Glad you liking the videos. Yes I was thinking the same with a manual hold down for that exact reason you say. Cheers for the comment.
Depends what you're going to be carrying on the bed but would it maybe help if you added some sort of mechanism for tipping it? It's going to behave very differently with a heavy load in it. You said it's pretty weighty as it stands now; anything in the bed will add directly to that weight. Another thing I thought of: Are you ever going to need some sort of locking device, to support the bed when raised? Even a simple arm, like a hood/bonnet prop would do. Even if you decide to upgrade the hydraulics, a physical support might be a good idea, From a safety point of view, if you ever need to be 𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓 the deck, it would be an advantage if you could secure the bed in the raised position. I'm not suggesting these things in any critical way. I'm no truck designer. I'm just thinking aloud, about weird, bizarre situations that could arise in the future.😁
With regards to the gas struts, would it be worth considering moving the tray strut mount up higher on the tray. You have a lot of weight on the fulcrum point, which is very low on the tray. Move the fulcrum point higher might alleviate this stress. I realise it would be a pain to do now it is all welded in, but better to do now rather than after it is all done and painted. Coming along nicely though.
Hey Mate thankyou. I did think of moving the fulcrum point up higher but then it starts to have clearance issues on the chassis where the mount hangs. I might have another look at it as I could prob lift the mount up a bit higher. They only tacked in so its not a big job to potentially move them.

So much planning on a build and still some things need to be done twice😅 great progress so far
Haha pretty much Mate. Anything modified/custom have to expect it.

looking good did you check out the suspension travel aspect on the guards?
I wonder how it would look with black rims....
🍺👏👍🏻
Those guards are gunna rub like a son of a bitch when u get a ton of bricks on the back
Haha yep probably but there will be never anything going on the tray
😴
