Disney stole Kimba... So
@@RayPearcetv And? Pokemon isn't the owner of Kimba
The strongest copyright abuser of today vs the strongest copyright abuser in history
Nintendo vs. Disney. Their battle will be legendary.
Or settled in private with little fanfare.
A bit like Pokémon Dash. 🫤
I just looked it up because I’m curious and according to google Disney is 4x bigger than Nintendo. You learn something new every day
Top ten anime battles
Mushroom Kingdom Hearts will be canon now.
@@Rivalweb-nr7ol Yeah, but one is Japanese and the other one isn't. You may be thinking how this is relevant... go look it up yourself, I ain't telling you everything.
in XY's main story you can find a team flare NPC in geosenge town who says
"only team flare's stayin' alive stayin' alive"
Another team flare member in the Pokeball factory says "Don't worry be happy", referencing the song from Bobby McFerrin (who I definitely didn't have to look up)
AH AH AH AH
Stayin alive, stayin alive
can't remember which route it was but there's a trainer who references Pat Benatar's "hit me with your best shot"
Fun fact:
Stand By Me may be a big inspiration for The Way Home arc in SV, with both having 4 kids searching for a de*d body, and Arven saying how the professor is "railroading" them, which could be referencing the scene on the tv in Red's home.
What's even more interesting is that the tv in Ethan/Lyra's home in HGSS references The Goonies by saying "There's a movie on TV! Two boys are in a cave searching for treasure. I'd better get going, too," which is suspiciously similar to the plot of The Indigo Disk, isn't it?
why did you censor dead

In the French version of ORAS the fighting type gym leader mention he once look at a helix fossil for a unreasonable amount of time, its a refrence to twitch plays pokémon event and how chat just open the menu and just look at the helix fossil just sorta pray. I can't wait for the inevitable refrence to vaporean copy pasta!
Related, but iirc when Mr. Stone gives you the Pidgeotite you can see the Helix Fossil in the background, sure could be a coincidence, but could also be a Reference since Bird Jesus was a prominent Pokémon in the OG TPP run
I'd love it if the ref was something like:
NPC trainer: I love Eevee and all of it's evolutions! Except Vaporeon...
*shudders*
@@A-crying-mess-50 you know what will be crazy!?
Npc trainer: I love eevee and all of its evelutions. Especially vaporean
well, in sv there's a trainer who says "Do you know..." (or something like that) right next to where vaporeon spawns
Idk rick..
There was actually the same “meow meow” reference in Pokémon BW/BW2’s battle subway. Made by another waitress.
“Meow meow, it’s a battle, meow. (It sounds stupid, doesn’t it?)”
The reference in XY must be a reference to that.
Several NPCs in the Battle Maison say almost exact same things as some of the NPCs in the Battle Subway. It may be mere laziness or perhaps Game Freak just really liked those quotes.
I think that It could be a reference to Mew Mew
But not sure
@@miikaroos3809 If the trainers have the same names as the ones from older gens then it might actually be continuity. Don't know if that's the case though. I don't ever spend much time at the battle facilities and I'm not going back to check this.
Disney doesn't own a lion standing on a rock platform. So no, Gamefreak wouldn't be sued
🤓
might not even be a reference to the lion King, but more likely a reference to Osamu Tezuka's Emperor of the Jungle (which Disney seems to have taken a huge load of inspiration from).
I like how you put that
@@charnalk5572This has been debunked for a while
@@zorcess829 The most debunking I've seen of it is the lead animator admitting that he was inspired by it, tho they weren't consciously ripping stuff up.
I am aware that it is supposed to be hamlet but in the jungle, but one inspiration does not invalidate another.
Fun fact: the TV easter egg can change depending on the language of the game
Can I ask what that one clip with the lady speaking was about?
The anime's English dub probably has a bunch of pop culture references with their titles. For example, the SM episode "Dummy, You Shrunk the Kids" being a reference to "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids".
Oh, there are TONS.
Finally someone said something about that
ESPECIALLY with the episodes dubbed by 4Kids; almost all of those episode titles are puns on various pieces of pop culture, including movies.
Beauty and the beach from the 4Kids era
Brook: I love jelly filled donuts
My favorite is in Sun & Moon when the professor is in his lab with a Pokemon and says "My body is ready".
The Sun and moon beach photo rating: "7.8/10 too much water"
The best one is specifically in the french version of red and blue where the tv in red's room references dragon ball
There are actually a lot more in BW with the language show with a lot of 80s-90s anime! The otaku (Manolo Taque uhuh clever) guy mentions Fulguris 31, Hal Batteur (it took me a while to understand this one but it's Albator aka Harlock), Porygon Ball Z and a bunch more!
@@tigaliytThere's also a Gundam reference in BW2
Boltunds not boring, it’s a greyhound! In England they use them as foxhounds to hunt foxes, which is why Boltund hunts Thievul
Boltund is so awesome! I really wish it got more attention :(
Somewhere in Galar, there's probably a foundation or two dedicated to protecting Theivul, Zigzagoon, and others; one, probably named after a song (this comment is a joke/reference to the "Save Me" foundation).
I always love when trainers themselves are references to other media. For instance, my favorite one is Guitarist Billy Jo in Roxie’s gym is most likely a reference to Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day
That makes way more sense compared to who I thought, which is Billy Joel
I love how three of the master trainers in Let's Go are the Game Grumps.
@@CharginChuck I'm sorry, what?!? How? Where?
@@yuze485 The master trainers for the Gastly line are named Arin, Danny and Ross.
“Meow, Meow, I can haz battle, meow?” 🔥🔥🔥
do you where it is from?
Mr Roger's Neighborhood. It's not based off of the lolcats of my youth.
nya ichi in-
@@myatbhonehtike5815 is it bad I know that whole song
The "4 boys on a railroad track" is also referenced at the start of the music video Gotcha!, of Acacia by Bump of Chicken. Imo the best piece of pokemon media
Lokix being a Kamen Rider and Ledian being based on sentai tho
on a side note, I named my Lokix Crashopper from Ben 10 Omniverse
In Sun & Moon if you take a picture of just water one of the comments says 7.8 too much water
In the let's go games there are three psychics named Danny Arin and Ross. I bet they're pretty grumpy
Please tell me Arin has a beedrill
@@yuze485 I'm pretty sure they're master trainers for Abra (can't remember)
tbh, i couldn't see disney making any claim that the pokemon game referenced them, considering they stole the idea from kimba the lion 💀
Not 100% on that
You're talking about the company that originally tried to copyright Cinderella and Snow White despite those being old fairy tales in the public domain.
That’s been debunked
someone link the 2 hour yms video lol
I thought TLK was just Hamlet in the Savannahs.😅
There's a pair of Macro Cosmos employees named Jane and Mateo and i am ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that the translator was watching Jane The Virgin at that time because thats the names of the mother and son in that series.
Also Wobbuffet is a reference to a Japanese comedian. His signature punchline was putting his hand to his head and going "sonans" ("so it is"). Sonans is Wobby's Japanese name.
In pokemon Scarlet and violet, the battle teacher ask you a question and one of them is "Explosive Healing wave"
Man actually the Crossover between hatsunau miku and pokemon was VERY unexpected and preety good
In the Hoenn remakes they have Power Rangers that are “sold” in stores. I remember being so mad that I couldn’t actually buy the Hoenn Rangers for my playthrough.
Lol i remember how the 9000 line made so many people SO angry 😂
Really? People got upset at that line? Why tho?😭
@@comics4556idk I’m just gonna comment this because idk
In FRLG, that same tv will reference Wizard of Oz if you play as Leaf instead of Red.
An NPC in Lumiose directly references Beauty and the Beast, but says that the prince turned into a Pokemon.
fun fact:
in the SW/SH Dlc #1, on the tv in the Dojo Master Mustard can be seen playing Pokemon Quest
One localization had the Red and Blue TV reference Dragon Ball, if I recall.
i had no idea that neighbors room in omori references pokemon referencing stand by me
Theres also a trans beauty in X and Y, a reference on how LGBT people are valid
Wait what? Where?
@@Lucas17031 There's a Beauty at the Battle Maison who says she used to be a Black Belt.
@@Lucas17031 In the Battle Maison
She mentions how she was once a Black Belt (Karate King in Japanese) and says that the power of medical science is amazing
Black Belts are a male exclusive trainer class (the Battle Girls are their female equivalent)
I think also in XY there's a gay couple in a saloon that says "there's nothing wrong with two men sharing a dish" or something like that. (It may have been in another game, i don't remember it perfectly)
There was also a character from an official gen 2 manga that was canonically trans
Because of the lion king reference I caught that and named it Mufasa, caught a male and female litleo and named them simba and nala
meow meow i can haz newsteevie short
I never knew about the Movie references!
Disney can't sue over a lion on a rock.
actually that catgirl waitress is super based and we love her for it
Unstoppable force versus unstoppable force. Together they'd be an... unstoppable force
There's also a angry "influencer" near the big lake... She's so ashamed she got beat she "can't stand being in the same spot anymore"
are we not gonna talk about moistcritikal sledge? and the fact that all of the male backpacker npcs in gen 9 have that same skin, albeit with a few changes per npc? (there’s one south of levincia that looks exactly the same as sledge)
I knew it was a referent to The Lion King!
A personal favourite of mine is a weird little reference in the lets go games. In those games, the names of the 3 master trainers for the gastly are Arin, Danny, and Ross, which in case you dont know, are members of the channel Game Grumps
GOTCHA! also references that Stand by Me reference.
the hex manic has all my respect she's a work of art
i knew that Pyroar over the rock in the Scarlet/Violet terarium had to be a Lion King reference 😮
Titanic Rose reference in Pokémon Let's Go 😅
I’m just imagining that Yakuza 0 meme of Kiryu and Kuze punching each other captioned: “Nintendo vs Disney”
"Volteccer"
Tekkaman Blade: VOOOOOOLTEEEEEEKKKKKKKAAAAAA **fires Voltekker**
Volteccer, as said in Japanese, ends up sounding like Voltekka, the giant laser attack done by Tatsunoko anime hero Tekkaman and Tekkaman Blade.
Double reference.
Y'know, in hindsight I should've known Volt TACKLE in japanese wouldn't be referencing the Voltekka from Tekkaman Blade, which is a beam
Then there's a whole side mode in Like a Dragon: Infinite wealth that's just Pokemon, but legally distinct
When talking about Pulseman, you forgot to mention Remoraid.
Don’t forget the Nintendo switches, and Wiis in the player’s rooms and penny’s collection of Nintendo stuff
What really grinds my Klinklang is that, despite Galar's overwhelming British-ness, I never found even a single Doctor Who reference.
I think more players should reference DragonBall in Sinnoh specifically since you get Pokémon Goku in sinnoh
There’s an npc in the battle tower in SwSh that says they were only using 0.2% (or some other small decimal idr) of their power
I can rest in peace knowing that i wasnt the only one who saw the lion king reference
Nah imagine if this video was brought up in a Disney pokemon court battle over lion king 😂
Ooh fun. In a way you could say meowth is the prince of Persian 😂
Dude, Pride Rock!
The fact that you had to speak on lolcat for this one.
Braver than any veteran...
In Sun & Moon, you can find Mario’s overalls hanging on the right wall in clothing stores
Listen, Disney stole from Kimba, a Japanese show about a lion, so GameFreak just stole back. Totally fair lol
The lion king reference is my favorite thing in the indigo disk
The most crazy about their ip company in history versus the most crazy about their ip company of today
Tbf I don’t think they can sue Nintendo for a lion pokemon having a spawn on a specific rock. I mean they can try but I don’t think that can be copyright
There's also a Kamen Rider reference. Do you know which pokémon I'm talking about? It's a grasshopper. And it's the first Kamen Rider.
Professor Kukui also says “my body is ready” in the Alola games when Lillie first takes you to his house
Weren't there a ton of internet references in Gen 4? The lore I remember is that a Something Awful poster got a job as a translator and took some liberties.
apparently a few of the master trainers names in let's go are references, even the game grumps and Simpsons somehow
With the parenthesis I wonder if the waitress is being self reflective or if she's being made to say that to customers.
Pokémon breaks the wall far more than I realized
More than Animaniacs? Lol.
The iceberg where you can find cindaquil in indigo disk might be a reference to how the Grinch stole Christmas because of how the top of it is shaped like the mountain the Grinch lives in
Disney: “Hmm, an offer for our film to be referenced in the highest grossing franchise in the world…I’ll allow it!”
I was so caught off guard when I first saw that Pyroar up there 😂 I killed it tho and made my shiny Pyroar stand on the ledge
Damn, you killed Mufasa... I think I'll call you Scar.
There's an NPC in the terarium in the indigo disk dlc that says "No thoughts, just vibes"
Speaking of the TVs, I'm 90% sure Mustard is playing Pokemon Quest in the side room of the dojo
In the anime, the way Squirtle and Wartortle perform Hydro Pump (going inside their shells and spewing water out) is a reference to Gamera, a daikaiju franchise starring a fire-breathing turtle who flies the same way. Notably, the anime is made by Toho, who owns Gamera's rival franchise, Godzilla.
In the indigo disk DLC there’s a student that references Daria
They gotta bring back Pulse Man.
Like a classic Game Freak collection.
Pulse Man, Drill Dozer, Tembo, stuff like that.
Snacksworth, the guy who gives you the legendary snacks in the Indigo Disc, is probably based on Chiquito de la Calzada, a Spanish stand-up comedian.
It's the same reason Nintendo can't take down Palworld. Things may look similar, but as long as it's not directly mentioned and using the exact designs, they can't really get in trouble for it. So the Lion King reference is totally fine. Which is so cool in my opinion
The lion king reference is harmless enough. I still wish Palworld _was_ punished though, because the blatant asset stealing and the use of AI makes my skin crawl
I dont think the use of ai was ever confirmed only rumored@edgytoucan3444
@@theoliveknight9361 they have an entire game where generative ai is used as the main mechanic, so I'd say that's reason enough to punish the company. It's also pretty obvious they stole assets, one of their designs is just serperior with some elements from other mons.
@mertensiam3384 yes but that games entire point was ai generation there is no evidence for palworld and yes the assets are similar enough to raise eyebrow but if it was that egregious nintendo would have taken them down already
I don't support the companies past works that doesn't mean their future is going to be the same
Honestly the English localization of Pokémon games definitely feel like products of their times, and that's honestly kinda endearing in a way. (Like in D/P where someone says noob)
Stephen King being canon in Pokémon implies that there's a version of Cujo where Cujo is a Mabostiff that got Pokerus from a Zubat
The plot of stand by me is similar to ai professor storyline
The only thing more powerful than Disneys lawyers is Japanese Copyright lawyers
In XY there is also a Pokémon ranger on the route after the fairy gym that references power rangers/similar media
Pulseman is awesome
Nobody caught the Ultraman references yet? The low health sound is literally the color timer alert!
Was playing Pokémon Y recently and got jumpscared by the Over 9000 one. Absolutely shocked
Over 9000?
You telling me my pokemon can beat nappa
Another unspecific Reference to cliché robot:
A Maid in Kalos' Battle Chateau speaks like she is a battle robot.
Malcolm in the middle is referenced in ORAS. That one is my favorite
I remember the over 9000 one. I thought it was so funny that I showed it to my wife, but she was just unamused
Disney Lawyers: I fear no man, but that thing…
*looks at Nintendo lawyers*
Disney Lawyers: …it scares me.
Thanks to Kingdom Hearts I doubt disney would sue
Fun fact the last two trainer are both on route 10 I think
I don’t think Disney would sue for that, it’s more like a cultural reference (though if it was Nintendo, they would probably sue)
the waitress i think she's the lass from route 8 who greets you with "meow meow meow meow" and has a team of meowth
In the let's go Pikachu and eevee games, there some trainers named after the game grumps
Why can't game freak be more up to date gamefreak:
