Well done review. I ordered this. It's impressive and you touched on all the high points and strengths. Additional thoughts: you HAVE to buy a 32 gig or smaller SD card (kind of hard to find...) AND format it on your computer as FAT32 (won't work otherwise - learned the hard way). The exposure tools are great, but there is only the option (that I can find) to have all those tools shown at once so the things on the screen get small and busy and the waveform (for me is pretty unusable) is too squished. Seems like most companies do this though - I would really like separated out tools to assign to a function buttons.

I returned mine the same day I got it. Really gnarly color banding in the shadows. It was like monitoring with an animated gif.Could just be a bad unit, but made it unusable. Was unable to update the firmware. I loved EVERY other part of the monitor though. really bummed.

If Viltrox is taking inputs from you then please tell them to release a Nikon F/G mount to L mount autofocus adapter. I'm waiting such a long time for that particular adapter.

Got one myself and trying -with no success so far- to find an online manual... Anyone? Also, I don't understand why you can't adjust the angle of the hotshoe adapter without some sort of tool...

Yes, you can. The HDMI will send the signal through if you want it to. (depending on the camera). Most GH cameras will do it.
if ill be using a vmount battery powering the monitor via 5v USB c port do i need to removed monitors battery.

It comes with a battery. You get over an hour with it easily as long as it’s not at full brightness. The good news is it runs on usb-c and also you can use larger batteries with it.
Great video! I have a question regarding this monitor paired with the GH6. Can I shoot in 4k 120 and view in 120fps HD on the monitor?
I just checked the manual it looks like 4k30p is the max refresh rate of the monitor. If you're shooting in S&Q or VFR mode, it'll be fine as the camera will output 120p to 30p.

Looks good, and that extra brightness is compelling me return the P6.
Ah man, well I'm sure the P6 will be okay. I had a P6 sent in a while back it was DOA out of the box so I never got a chance to test it. This one is very bright as you can see from the comparison shots with the camera LCD.

Great review! I have just got this for my GH6. Just checking that....using the GH6 with VLOG.....that we dont need to apply the same VLOG LUT to the DC550? :-)
The monitor can mirror anything you send to it so if you have a LUT on the camera that'll be all you need.

I noticed you mentioned that you use anamorphic lenses with the monitor on. Are you desqueezing the anamorphic footage in camera, or is this also a feature available on the monitor?
Currently doing research on purchasing either this monitor, or the Portkey PT 5 II. I do a lot of indoor client work, but most of my passion projects are filmed outside. So, I'm a bit torn on which one to get! Thanks for the video, it's serving as a great help when it comes to finding more information on this Viltrox unit.
Hi mate. You can de-squeeze the preview on the monitor. I showed an example shot of all the different ratios you can use. I have the Sirui lens with a 1.33x squeeze and it looks great.

Hows the image quilty? Is it get washed out and flat when viewing from an angel?
And it possible to transfer 4k60 in anyway?
I showed off-angle viewing quality in this video I am pretty sure. Check the b-roll sections outdoors. I had no problems seeing it at all.

Cool video, thanks, I bought it a month ago, the company update doesn't work, I did all the steps correctly, downloaded it to the SD card and put it in the monitor, but it doesn't work... How did you manage it? DC-550 V3.7
I put the SD card in and hit update. That was it. I think there were a few firmware updates almost within a few days of each other. Make sure you use a card no bigger than 32GB.

What about fan noise when you're using an on-camera mic? That would be an absolute show-stopper.

Hello, so you can playback your videos and photos via gallery inside camera?
Some cameras default to the HDMI port on playback if there's an external monitor plugged in. It really depends on your camera.

On my camera (A7 IV) the entire monitor is not supported by the Viltrox monitor and I have a black border on the sides. Does anyone know how I can change this?
There's a full screen mode on the unit. It should be fine with Sony gear, I've used it with my FX3 and A7SIII before. You can turn things on and off manually as well if you're seeing a crop it means something is hidden on the side of frame. There's toggle switches (digital ones) you can enable and disable features.

Great Content as usual...I still think Ninja V or anytype of recorder is probably best for pro work because of the backup solution...still wished that GH6,S5 could record protest raw and parallely record backup on sd like the FX30,FX35 can .
Anyway I still don't get so much why the S5iiX is so hyped here S5ii goes body for 1799 CHF vs S5iiX 2499 CHF😅...Kind of expensive just to buy a record to ssd devices actually the option with Ninja V and S5ii is cheaper...what are the real benefit of S5iiX vs S5ii you told me month that for 90% of the people it makes no sense...😂😂😂
For me, the S5II is more than enough - even for paid gigs. The S5IIX will be for people shooting a very particular workflow. The X will be mostly handy for All-I workflows if you need to shoot in those less compressed codecs. I can't fault the image out of the S5II, it's unreal.

Just a simple question how do you pick your cameras when shooting outside?S5org multicam you have in studio but the rest? and between Sony and Lumix, maybe you could make a personal video about it or probably remake it with cameras in winter 2023 because for you is winter now(well Australian winter is kind of you wish for most in European country specially the raining one like France England😂😂😂)

How does it supports 4k 60 when it is only compatible with 4k 30 this is very confusing snd does it support 10bit 422?
The unit can handle up to 60p but the refresh rate of the screen might be set to 30. It works fine with 4k60 at whatever the refresh rate of the screen is.

If your HDMI output is set to 4k it'll work fine. Most 6k cameras have an "Auto" HDMI output setting.
How long does the battery last
I didn't do a proper battery drain test but you should get at least a full hour or more depending on the brightness settings. If you have a larger NPF battery, you can use that as well and get extended runtime (or a battery bank charger)

The A7S3 outputs like that to a monitor. You can turn that off in the hdmi output settings of the camera

Same here. Screen died after updating to “the latest” firmware. No support from Viltrox so far. $200+ down the drain

Hi mate! So the monitor can view DCI-4K. It works fine with 4K50p. I just tested it with DCI-4K at 50p, and it works but the image area is slightly larger than the framing in length. It's a lovely park, it's one of my favourites. I hope this helps.
