Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Arrival, Bladerunner 2049) and also stars Oscar Issac (Moon Knight, Star Wars The Force Awakens, Ex Machina), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One), Javier Bardem (Skyfall, No Country For Old Men), Josh Brolin (Avengers: End Game), Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Stellan Skarsgård (Andor, Thor), and Zendaya (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Euphoria).
The reason why you don’t see any fire guns is because in Dune universe this kind of weapon has been left a long time ago due to their ineffectiveness against shields. It’s even more important in Arrakiis because bullets vibes can attract the worms…
People use guns and projectile weapons on the open sands of Arrakis because they don’t use shields there. In ground combat there are no shields to block bullets and missiles because those shields would attract the worms and “drive them into a killing frenzy.”
I really enjoyed your reaction I loved watching someone fall in love with a story that I wanted to see made into a movie since 1977. That I have loved for almost 50 years.
The voice isn't magical. It's like ordering a dog, the dog reacts without thinking, so do humans exposed to the voice. It is the ultimate voice of authority. Using it is a skill that Bene Gesserit develop over years of training. The voice only works on humans or those that were once human. The Bene Gesserit can read you like an open book they often know what you are going to do and are thinking, just by your body language.
9:00 as a teen I had read about 100 sci-fi books by the time I read Dune in 1977 and I was confused so don't sweat it. It's very dense and complicated.
I didn't think it could be made into a movie.
But they did it 🎉
9:37 an animal would try and escape a trap, a human will wait until the person who set the trap returns and kills him. Paul controlled his impulses and has proven he isn't a simple animal.
10:44 I think they are bringing water to Dune, there water is wealth so a little more is useful.
18:33 the giant sandworms make the spice. It is on the sand. Killing the worms would destroy the spice so they just run away.
23:31 they are all human even the spider thing was once human before the Harkonnens operated on it. It's 20,000 years in the future. (It's 10,000 years since a robot uprising which they count as year zero. Computers are banned something they don't say in the movie.) Humans have changed. There are no aliens in this science fiction universe.

Dune is not an easy book to read, a lot going on, notoriously difficult to adapt on the screen. So the movie reflects that, but Villeneuve simplified it. The movie is not for everyone, spectator needs to pay attention to details and what the caracters are saying and doing. A huge universe is out there with its own rules and political/religious systems.
