I used to be a major Justin Timberlake fan, but I can’t get past the Janet Jackson situation. His solo career was successful due to black fans and other black artists/producers working with him, but the one time he needed to speak up he didn’t. He didn’t even publicly apologize to her until over a decade later. 🙃 It kinda made him seem less like someone who appreciates black culture and more like someone who appropriated it (just like Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Lopez, etc.).

The way you described made it sound like Justin was a plantation owner and forced all these black black artists/ producers to work with him (Not to mention harbor friendships for over 20 years) 💀 The reality is they WANTED to work with him because he was insanely talented and they knew if they COLLABORATED they could make timeless music which they did. If you don't want to be a fan, that's okay but don't act like Janet was some saint either. She had an album coming out and knew some controversy would help it. Turns out, it completely backfired, the moral high ground media wanted blood and she told Justin not to speak as his career was just starting and they were after her.
