Masking, unveil, wipe effect / technique with a simple line in After Effects Tutorial

- In this After Effects tutorial/training I show you how to mask on and off any text or other object, using a line which wipes on and of the text.
It's a simple & easy technique to learn, even for beginners.
You can create this for sure in After Effects CS6 or newer versions like Adobe CC with it's standard effects and tools that After Effects offers. No third party plugin are needed.

Please can you explain the above if it's not text but an image.... Trying to use a moving line to reveal different images - But can't seem to find any tutorials. Please assist. No alpha setting on Track Matte
could I use it on my own footage or does it work only for text?
I'm trying the same thing but there's no alpha option in the track matte for an image layer - So getting stuck and can't find another resource on CZcams with an answer...
NOTE: For "US" TV Commercial production, PLEASE do not use 24/25 fps. Only use 59.94 and 29.97.
This didn't work for me and I can't figure out why. When I select Trkmat Alpha or Alpha inverted I only get the text completely masked or unmasked--the mask either completely masks or unmasks the text. My mask is parented to the line, is moving with it, and the layers are in the right order, but the mask doesn't affect the text. What could be going on?
I had the same issue. I fixed it by giving my mask/rectangle a fill color before moving on to the track matte steps
