Fall is the time to divide your peonies. These tips can apply to all your different types of peonies. Once divided you can share them with friends and family.
Amazing demonstration on the handling, I wouldve never thought Peonies would be such sturdy plants they always seem and are described in a tender manner but I suppose it must be because of the gorgeous blooms. Thank you for the vid!
you probably dont give a damn but does someone know a trick to log back into an instagram account..? I somehow forgot the password. I would love any tricks you can give me!
Spectacular demonstration... Purchased some Coral Queen Victoria Peonies for the very first time...Thank you so very much for the confidence to keep these for many, many years...What a great Teacher...
@Svetlana Dascaliuc, Hi, How did the Scarlet O'hara divide go?? I have divided 1 plant into 6 with success before. I just bought 5 plants from Adelman's, we're trying to find a good spot in the yard. Wish me luck too! ;-)
I'm about to sell my parents' house where my mother had the most beautiful peonies - I hope it won't sell until I can go divide some and bring them to my own house. Thank you for this video!
Or you could ask the new owner if it would be ok with him/her if you could go back for dividing the plant. I know I would be fine with it, especially since it reminds you of mom :)
I know it's late but sometimes you can exclude the plants from the sale and many new owners won't mind as they will look to make their garden their own
I would like to see how do you divide the tree peony. thanks for the information how to plant them, it is very interesting that you plant them on top of the soil. I guess your soil drainage must not be very good.
A friend gifted me a peony too late in the season & brought it to me today . Its got a 2 ft stalk completely leafed out, flower heads on top of the stalks and next years buds on the bottom but it doesn't have any roots to speak of.They sliced it off near the top of the roots.
I planted the longer things down in the grown and the eyes under two inches of soil not sure how well that will work. But nice to see this video for future plantings!
@@StephRenee812 On a good note mine came up one is a yellow hybrid the other herbaceous, the hybrid looks GREAT for just starting out it has three nice sized shoots, and these were bare roots, The Herbaceous had two sets of two small shoots one set shivered down thinking though we had alot of rain it may have still been dry so days of no rain I am watering it good. so far the one set is doing great!
@@briancaleb6503 I just want to figure out how to get these up and moved. There are about 15 to 20 long stems I guess they are called. And I dig a home around the one set and they are all tangled in each other I dig so far it came up to my knees the whole and I still coulsnt get mine peonies out. I need them moved so bad The spot they are I the way we are laying off yard I think is a very bad spot. I dont want to kill them.
@@StephRenee812 I have not replanted any just planted so that is something I don't know about but maybe some one on here could give you some advice? I have three plants that are very intertwined with each other being I started them from seed close together and they have bloomed the last two years at some point I am going to have to separate them, when the time comes I don't know what I will find under there lol. Hope some one on here can give you some pointers with you situation.
@@StephRenee812 thinking back we have moved some taking the dirt and all but small plants just took the dirt and roots together and put them in a new whole and all was fine even had them still bloom but if its a large patch I have not tried moving them. But in the video they have cleaned the dirt off them and dividing them. Not sure if right now is a good time to do it though unless its a must to do thing if you are able to get them up with the dirt and move them id do i that way or maybe some one on here can advise.
It's a lovely adventure!! In 1995 I was given my 1st peony, I have divided and shared 6x. I am thrilled to bits--I just bought 5 new varieties from Adelman's. IMHO Peonies are as beautiful as roses (minus all the fuss) lovely foliage, and the best....no thorns! Adelman's did suggest ground-planting vs a container planter. I've lost more perennials to 'containers' (dehydrated usually) Good luck and enjoy!
We just moved into our nee home a s I found these kind of plants growing. I went to try to dig to find out how the roots were a d they are all over under the ground sone not very deep like righr at top of dirt big roots and roots go deep as well. They are all tangled and I was going to tey to move them from the spot they were at. Not a very good one. There were lots of old brush and old rose bush stuff in this spot.. and has been walked over and everything. Surprised these are growing back. They have been here for 15 years . They keep coming back. Last year I dodnt see then at all. Which is weird.. now I am seeing these long red stick looking things standing up all over. Lol. I hate that they are were they are. I. Not sure how to cit them out of ground. There are now about 20 of them standing. All over. Lol. Help. I'm rambling Not that I have read we have the intersectional one. Because I dug and dig for over a hour. And they are all over the place. And close to the top of the ground all tangled like that one.. I need to get these out before my husband kills them with his truck and 4 wheelers and dirt bike
We moved into my grandma's house after she passed away. And these are in a bad spot on side of the house.. and they are tangled in the ground and all over. And I dug for a good hour and i was so confused on these plants. I need to move them
Many of the dividing videos I see online, really miss the mark as far as being truly informative. This one, however, is unlike those. Need good advice, seek out an expert! Now I am ready to go dig me some $100 holes to plant some $100 peonies!
I'm not crazy about my Peonies. They bloom very early and when the rains come, they're lying on the ground and ruined. The leaves have a metallic appearance and are actually ugly. What do I do?

Great information and instruction! Thanks so much for this wonderful video, I learned quite a lot. Cheers!
Terrific advice thank you and a thumbs up.
I'm guessing this will be the only video where they plant them like that.
Love learning the right way.
Thanks! We love visiting Adelmans' peony gardens every year. I am about to divide a Scarlet o'hara peony I got from them. Wish me luck :)

I moved and things got hectic. I forgot to dig mine out & they were in the family for over 100 years. Beautiful burgundy color. ☹️ Lucky you.
Wish we could see before and after pictures of these.
Great explanation thanks
Thank you.
Very informative thanks
Thank you I love this farm and this channel. I'm curious what you recommend for the South. Specifically zone 8b.

The buds is all you really need. They'll grow
Can you divide after they have turned brown but before the land has froze over in mid fall?
What part of fall is this with it still green around the stems? Must be early fall.

That's what I learned as well

When will the divisions you planted this way flower?

How long after dividing and replanting properly in the fall will it be before they flower again?
Really useful info, thanks...
I saw on another video on here, they were just laid on the surface like irises.
she did say they don't like to be 'very, very deep'
I've planted peonies and they never came up. I bet I planted them too deep.
Miracles do happen, wait another year or so, they will pop up when you least expected!
There is peonis seeds sale on on line shop. But I do worry to buy it. Does it grows well in Indonesia?
No. It's too warm a climate for them. They need a significant amount of cold weather

I have no choice but to move my parents' 50+ year old peony bushes in June due to they passed away and the estate sale home has sold. Any advice?
you looking to sell it?
