Is there anything more iconic than Henry saying "Let's paint"?
"Hi everyone, it's Henry here"?
I'm glad to hear someone state that it's not mineral spirits, but rather mechanical action removing the paint. It's a common enough misconception and when I'm just some dude, people don't really take me seriously when I say it.
Also big respect for leaving in the mistake. It's always nice to see talented people make mistakes and not just perfection model after model like some channels.
Loving the Solar Auxilia content
Thanks, I'm enjoying doing it! Hopefully we.can get away with a couple more
Really nice. Gave myself a pat on the back for not buying this box. Now ravaged with regret.
Get yourself down the shops!
I'm glad I'm not the only one who uses Typhus Corrosion as a texture paint for vehicle grit
10:40 really appreciate this shot of how diluted the oil wash is. Maybe make it a regular feature of future videos?
I can't get enough of these videos!
Absolutely adore the scheme on the deathless. So many things that can carry to a similar scheme on other model ranges. Your videos are fantastically educational
That's lovely to hear thanks.
Really like your work on the Deathless 🔥
They aren't strictly speaking a solar aux cohort, but a mortal regiment that existed in the Heresy that I would love to see how you would go about painting would be a Vostroyan force. I have one that I've been sitting on for ages and never really got started because I don't even know where to start making them grungy enough.
I think the Aethon in this video has an armor color close enough to be transferable to Vostroyan khaki armor, but would still love to see how you'd tackle it.
Thanks as always guys, love your stuff and always look forward to the next one!
I'd love to see the vostroyans get revisited
@@cultofpaint if that was a video you'd be interested in making, I have more infantry than I could ever need and would be happy to provide a couple for it! Just let me know!
Love the sentinel! I was apprehensive to try oils and weathering but these videos have reallly inspired me to embrace them! Now I'm working on some droids from Star Wars Shatterpoint with dot filtering and tippy-tappy chipping™ 😉
Yes! I really fancied having a go with those
Big fan of these, love the ink spot weathering thing, will deffo be trying it. Quite like how it looks without every bit of banding done metallic, might tone down how I'd planned to do mine. Keep these vids coming! Excited to see you paint the dracosan
gorgeous
looks fab !!!!
Thanks!
That sentinel is way bigger than I thought! It also looks much less silly than the pose gw showed off
I’m surprised by you saying oils dry quicker than enamels, I use enamels because they’re quicker haha. I can just never quite get on with oils anyway
Loving the series and can’t wait to get my box! Still not sure on colour scheme
He's massive!
Man, the deathless are so cool. I'm mad salty i have to go with Cthonian headhunters to go with my Sons of Horus lol
I feel your pain
That tan recipe might be exactly what Im trying to do for my tau project!
Would love to see you do a candy scheme for vehicle markings. I am currently assembling a battle box, and very tempted by The Lord Marshal’s Own
Nice mini
Agathon cohort for the next vehicle?? I'd love to see how the clear metal effect works on bigger panels! Keep up the auxilia content!
Looks great, I’m thinking of doing a similar scheme, maybe adding a bit more green to the troops.
Loving these new models
Me too!
@@cultofpaint Keep up the great work with them.
As good as the miniatures look - and they look fantastic - the basing really sets them in the heresy universe. The bases also look significantly sharper than the ones you did in the old basing video; any chance you’ll revisit a basing video in the future?
I love the new sentinels. I'm going to use them in my ORKs-who-think-they're-Blood Angels for redemptors and such
Every kit is an Ork kit.
26:05 you do 😂, but compared to some other people you don't overuse certain words (e.g. like, sort of etc). That's one of the many reasons you voice over is so nice to listen to.
27:40 Decayed Metal has been such a go to paint for the channel, that you no longer say the words, just the brand 😂. Doesn't matter, most viewers will recognize the color of the paint right away!
We like Henry 😊
Love the video as usual. I also really like how you did the sentinel cannon black, is it possible to expound on that a bit in the next video?
Thanks! I will when I do the tanks.
Awesome!@@cultofpaint
Both look great! Calth high guard or the indomitables could be fun schemes if you’re keen to do some more
I hope we start seeing more cohorts and colour plates for auxilia in the new books coming out
I think I'll take a look at the more legion aligned ones in a few weeks time.
It’s that guy who keep asking for 8mm versions, asking for 8mm versions, I know that Henry knows Epic is the way but the YT algorithm says less so, screw that guy - keep it up!
I want these for 40k Drop Troops. Really makes more sense than Russ & Chimera
Can you please do an Ash Scorpions scheme for the Solar Auxilia please Henry?
Thanks for the great work as always. Heard you talking about the deathless on the Swedish pod, hadn’t realised you had done them on here too. Great to see. Are they loyalist or traitor though? Do we know yet?
Loyalist
Man i really want to buy the solar auxilia box, they look really sick imo
They've been a lot of fun to build and paint
Loving the Aux stuff Henry.
Question about your paint range, will ya'll be putting the pigments used on the bottles/containers? My biggest problem with a lot of miniature paints is that we never get that info.
Thanks. We plan to provide plenty of info and education with the paints.
22:30 haven't noticed any flickering and am pretty sensitive to that stuff. I think you are good or maybe you did something in post to reduce it.
I tried the clear tamiya red for my LI Thousand Sons, the results were beautiful but the fumes were pretty strong and I got scared off by all the health warnings which included headaches, dizziness, asphyxiation and in sever overexposure cases death which felt like a bit of an escalation. I switched to using blood for the blood gods slightly diluted which gave fairly similar results with a nice glossy finish without the fear of hobby death. The Tamiya still sits on my desk though, calling to me as the ring called to Bilbo.
Blood for the blood god is a good alternative for the lens
I'm thinking of trying that BftBG for the eye lenses on my Blooded gas masks. Did you thin it with water or medium?
@@cultofpaintThose lenses look awesome! When you put the Tamiya clear on the lenses, did you thin it with alcohol first or apply it straight? I'm trying to decide between the Tamiya method or the BftBG method.
@@shartsmcginty8056 I just thinned it with water, it took me a bit of playing around with it to get a consistency that felt good and I normally get good coverage in 2 coats or so
@@shartsmcginty8056 more or less unthinned. I had a little dish of isopropyl I kept dipping my brush into between coats though.
Unreal as ever! I’m terms of how you finish the deathless . I presume you give it a gloss varnish before the wash and then go over with a Matt varnish after it’s dry?
Thanks! The oils dulled it right down so I didn't bother. But yes typically I'd do that.
Great Video, again! Is there a chance of getting a tutorial for the little Infantry guy in the thumbnail?
The guy in the thumbnail has a full tutorial in this video.
Hi Henry, awesome video as usual. Quick question for you, is there a particular reason why you don't use airbrush primer instead of rattle can?
Hi! 2 reasons really. I find it more convenient to use a rattle can. And also any airbrush primer I've used has always gone off in the bottle over time. So 99% I just rattlecan it.
lovely job and great video thanks. Have you tried the ready mixed liner such as tamiya panel liner? I have a very restricted hobby space and using ready to go stuff taking up as little space as possible helps and i was looking at these as a possible alternative to mixing up the oils and such myself?
I've not, but I'd say things like mig oilbrusher might be a good middle ground?
Ill have a look at them...thanks.
Will you be filming anymore solar auxilia? Im hoping so !
@@andrewkennedy9134 yep!
Are you going to do more retro style stuff like your deathwing terminators?
Also great paint job as always
Yes, I'd really like to do more of that.
As usual you outdid yourself. Is there any more Cities of Sigmar stuff planned in the near Future? I'd be especially interested in a lethis scheme. Keep your good Work Up. It is super inspiring.
I hadn't planned any cities stuff. But after this couple months of heresy I'd like to go back to AoS for a bit
I would love that. Maybe a cavalier or any of the big heroes.@@cultofpaint
Any Chance of getting a Calth High Guard Scheme anytime soon? Love the blue and white
I think I'll do the more closely legion affiliated ones next month
I absolutely love the solar auxilia models, but unfortunately I dont know anyone who plays heresy so really cant justify an army, best I can do is try to integrate some of the models into my 40k guard army
Curious how long you leave varnishes between coats as well as how long overall for it to set? I keep seeing stuff online telling me to leave it 48 hours to cure.
Hey Henry @cultofpaint The Tamiya clear red. Is it actually a solvent based paint? I can only find Tamiya Clear Red that is Acrylic.
Yes that's correct. It's not water based
do you thin your paints before sponge chipping? i find when i use them out of the pot and dab the excess off i still get larger clumps on the miniature instead of the nice specks and dots you are getting.
I don't think them beyond placing them on the wet pallette.
Love your army painting approach and use it all the time now. Please stop calling the loyalists/imperium the "good guys" D:
can you do a basing tutorial ? thx
There are a few on the channel.
is there opportunity with a black armor i.e. Black Templars to do oil dot filtering? If so, what would you suggest in regards to colors ect? I like the effect but Black Templars is my main army.
I've done some opr on black armour over on Patreon. But essentially you can use any colours you like. It will still show up well on black.
@@cultofpaint you're gonna get me to get on the patreon for this :P
@@cultofpaint do you happen to remember which video/project this was on? I joined the patreon but couldn't exactly find this
@@parkerbutynski500 Dark Angels Leviathan
If I may suggest anything to improve your videos, would be to check the audio levels. The voiceover sometimes is almost unintelligible, it's probably partly my set-up but you have a very low voice so the sounds don't come across very clearly all the time. I absolutely love your video's, please keep making them!
I will continue to try and keep improving audio, thanks for the feedback.
Cult of Paint don’t drop a model in a video challenge: level impossible.
And that's just the footage that's left in...
@@cultofpaint lmao!
Do you have the recipe for the sentinel base in another video?
its just brown texture paste with a pigment wash of vallejo light sienna powder. I do them in most of our YT vids.
Thanks. I’m just surprised of the variety that simple method gives. I’ll have to try it out.
Confused about the Deathless step 1: the code on my dark sea grey is 70.991, the 71.048 is engine grey. Color in the vid is closer to engine grey. Is this due to some Vallejo color rebrand?
Always go by number with Vallejo.
@@cultofpaintRealised it was my cockup, you used Vallejo model air, I tried to paint with Vallejo model color, turns out the color is super different
@@nikr5598 so frustrating that they use the same names!
you need to be careful with isopropyl, it spoils the brushes very quickly
Please stop making every model look so fantastic. It makes as all want to run out and buy every one, lol can’t afford that, plus the missus starts rolling her eyes.
God I love these guys. They just look so cool. I know Krieg are the "Community Favourite" Guard but I think I prefer the Solar Auxilia... Anyway back to the "Undecided colour scheme void" I go. 🥲
A combined army using krieg as militia would be fantastic I reckon
